Title: Upvotes
Post by: Fernando Witt on May 18, 2018, 03:08:46 PM
I am working on a forum for my college and it would be so much easy to do all the work if we have an upvote system, so, I'd like to request an upvote system for SMF please. Thanks!

there is already a LIKE system... (actually, 2 of them that I know of)

if you want upvotes to reorder the posts, then you're talking about some major changes

This is what I use, it's perfect.

If upvote as in re-ordering the posts in a topic by the number of votes they have gotten, that seemed like a big ask at first but thinking about it more, it should be possible to just re-organize the array of messages before it is passed onto the theme code. The only caveats I can think of off the top of my head would be that the first post would have to stay where it is always, and the posts would appear in their non-upvote-sorted form when doing things like split topic.

there is nothing "simple" about reordering the message/post array...
doing any sort of reorder, other than date (ascending/descending) would require some moderate to major rewrites of the code

If there's an upvote mod that records the upvote data to the board index, then this mod could be used to organise the board by default: http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1677

Although, the support topic doesn't really have any "support" any more per se, so I think it would need some adjusting.

yes, mods for 2.0 RC1 are unlikely to work on 2.0.x

Considering Curve gutted the theme entirely in 2.0 RC2, I'd day it's more than unlikely...
