Title: Maintaining or not??!
Post by: Gryzor on June 09, 2018, 06:34:05 AM
Hello guys!

I was trying to troubleshoot the high MySQL CPU usage on my server and I took the forum (2.0.15) offline (maintainance=1).

Heading over to www.cpcwiki.eu/forum you'll see that the notice is there, however over at http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/who/ I can see dozens of users being online!

Any ideas??

Thanks!!

the whos online page is showing that they are still looking at the forum, maintenance mode does NOT kick people off the site. the users will only see the maintenance mode message but not the forum itself.

Ahhh this makes sense. So I guess if I reboot the server they should be gone?

Btw I just re-read your message. They're not looking at the message, they're browsing the forum.

Take in to account that the who's online will show last actions for a set period of time - and won't just erase them before they are too old.
Also, just like with bans, bots following old links and users with old bookmarks,
may still appear as they would be browsing your forum - even though they are seeing the maintenance mode notice.

rebooting the server will not clear the online list if users/bots are still going to hit the forum URL.

Those points again make sense, but... the timestamps were current for hours, and visitors were at locations not usually bookmarked (for instance, a user's profile or some old thread). I took it back online and the high CPU problem was gone without touching anything so I let it be for now, but I may resurrect this if it happens again :)

Thanks for the help!
