Nice theme.
I think I like this one even more than the other one you released first, and that's saying a lot coming from me, as I don't usually like dark themes. Thank you so, so much for releasing these themes. I am going to be using this on my next look change! :) :) :)
Q: Is there any way to change the width of this theme? I usually have mine around 80%, and I cannot see a place to change it (in the theme's options on admin panel).
Glad you like it :)
Something odd happened while testing this theme on my forum... Some categories move to the right, it's mostly those below categories with child forums.
This is what I'm talking about:
(https://image.ibb.co/hB2yio/transferir.png)
How can it be fixed? Thank you!!!

Should be 1980*360 px
For the logo, you can upload it somewhere in your website using FTP or file manager, and then past its link in the settings, but no you can't directly upload from the theme settings
Great job :D I liked the theme!
Regards!
Ohhh that's gorgeous!!
One of the nicest themes i've seen for smf! 8)
This is a gorgeous theme, in fact I'm using it on my forum right now. Is it possible to change theme colors in theme settings without editing CSS?

Do the theme settings have any colour-switching options? If not, you'll need to roll your sleeves up and get dirty...

Unfortunately, what he said ^^
nice theme.
One comment (so far)
If you don't use a logo in the header (just the site name/text) the start of the white text gets a little lost in the header background.
https://test.turtleshellprod.com/index.php
ok, actually one more.
I can actually reach a point in width (shrink the wonder to trigger the width/mobile view changes) in which the left top menu and the right top menu are both buttons, but there is not actually enough space for both (and the news box is under the site name text)
Quote from: Kindred on July 31, 2018, 12:44:20 PM
nice theme.
Thanks
Alright so I'm on phone, so sorry if there are any typos or if I didn't understand the first issue
1. If (from seeing it from my phone) you mean how big and long the text is which is a problem, than there is a font size option in the theme settings
2. Did you resize it dynamically? I mean did you try reloading the page at that exact width, because there is JavaScript code that fixes that
I hope I got it right :P
1- no... the first two letters (white lettering) end up in front of the white background section and make it difficult to read (my eyes have difficulty seeing the differential between the whites
Not sure what you can do about it... although most folks are going to have a logo anyway.
2- ah, no... did not reload at that size, just shrink and grow the browser windows width to simulate different widths.
You are correct - on reload it clears up (although the newsbox is still covered by the forum title -- because that test forum has a long name.)

Oh okay I see, than I might just adjust the text shadow in next updates
As for the news box, than yeah as mentioned forums with long names will just have.to adjust the font size on the settings
Thanks for letting me know
Thanks for your answer. Another question: is there a way to translate the labels on the top left corner dropdown menu (the one with user picture)? I applied tranlation files for the rest of the site but that part wasnt translated so i assume the dropdown menu is theme specific.
there should be a themes.english.php (I think... or if not that name, something similar) in the theme specific /languages directory
Nice theme. Requesting for a small modification. It would be great if you can change the background color of code block since it is hardly visible or kindly let me know how to change that.

Yes that appears to be a mistake from my part, for some reason I didn't save the changes I had made to the bbc elements, I'll have to fix it in my next update
If you wish to change it yourself, open the CSS file (index.min.css) and look.for code.bbc_code
Edit the background

One of the best themes I've ever seen. It looks amazing. I have only one question. Where should I search for the change of its width? I don't see it in theme options.
I didn't add an option to change that, so if you wish to change it open index.min.css look for main{
It has a width property set to 96% that's what you want to edit
That's what I needed, thank you very much.
Sorry for a double post but I have two more questions.
First, I have a problem with reputation system in this theme. I'd like to have only positive reputation, so only thumb up under the avatar like in my second theme. However here with the same settings there's also thumb down icon and I can give minus points. Is it possible to hide it?
Second, I set up a proper default avatar and it is shown everywhere apart from the list of topics inside boards. Where should I put it and which name?
you would have to modify the reputation mod as it was applied in this theme, the same way you modified it in the default theme (in other words, that's a mod question, not related to this theme at all)
second question, the default avatar for this theme is /Themes/NightBreeze20/images/default_avatar.png
If you are using the default avatar mod instead, then see the answer to the first question.... :D
And to add to what Kindred said, Incase you're talking about the karma system and not a mod, I'll take a look at it when I can, although I didn't change any php tests related to it, just added the thumbs.
Quote from: Kindred on August 06, 2018, 09:31:03 AM

If I remember correctly I didn't change anything in reputation mod in my previous theme. I simply chose overall reputation and left thumb down section blank. That's why in my old theme it shows only "+" as it is written in thumb up section, and there's no other option. In this theme I have the same settings but two options are possible.

[/quote]
I know where it should be, and I have it in that folder. It shows everywhere but not in the boards. It looks like this:
https://imgur.com/c6d39b65-5018-4189-b117-feba95a0286a
imgur image doesn't exist...
However, if the file is in that location, then it would have to be a cache issue.
please include a URL which demonstrates your problem?
as for the first issue.
Are you using the basic karma or are you using the reputation mod?
Also, please include a URL which demonstrates your problem?
I managed to deal with the avatars. :) It turned out that one of my mods (Avatars on Board) caused this issue. I turned it off and everything works great.
The second issue still need to be solved. I use the basic karma. As I said I only want to have positive feedback on my forum. The settings are set up as in the screen. They are ok because they work on other themes.
(https://i.imgur.com/3YXMUQa.jpg)
I think the problem is that I write the name, and this theme shows images of thumbs, not words. I checked it with SychO's second theme which is quite similar and there, I have what I want, so only the name - "Helped" which gives +1 point to reputation. I can't provide the link though since I can't set this theme as a default yet.
right. I see what you are saying...
and this is not a bug... you actually took advantage of a bug in the main system to avoid the negative karma option...
because - in SMF core, karma is very basic. You only have three options.
off
on - display total only
on - display pos and neg separately
by using a blank for [smite], you misused the system to "hide" the smite option...
the fact that this theme uses thumbs-up and thumbs-down means that the bug which allowed you to misuse the system is not triggered. :)
So, Sycho's theme does nothing wrong in this case.
You would have to manually remove the thumbs down/negative karma link from Display.template.php
^yeah, removing the text doesn't disable the ability to smite a user, it's just a trick which is why it doesn't work everywhere, like this theme
Quote from: Kindred on August 09, 2018, 09:46:08 AM

Thank you for you help. I removed it and I have only thumb up. Now everything looks great.
You do realize that someone who knows how the link is constructed can still manually apply negative karma?
I think no one on my forum knows about it so it's our secret. ;)
I'm curious is it possible to fix somehow the image logo and top section so that their width is always the same as main content?
(https://i.imgur.com/a5dN1oy.jpg)
Without it when the resolution is high it doesn't look well because logo always runs left in this case. I want to change the width of forum from 96% to 90% but in this case it look even worse.

That's coming from whatever mod you installed, jquery is already loaded by default in the theme, and another mod loads another version, which leads to conflicts
http://demo.xyzscripts.com/xyz-popup-generator/common/js/jquery-ui-1.8.21.custom.min.js
mods and themes should both be loading jquery in noconflict mode...

Can you provide a more detailed log please? Which files have been edited? The major change seems to be about jQuery, can you provide the manual edit for it?
I am asking because I rather not deal with uninstalling and installing my mods all over again in order to make sure they work on the updated version of the theme.

You can pass if you don't have any issues with jQuery and if you're not using simple portal
I do however think you should add this.
responsive.cssAdd the following code at the end of the file
/* HD Screens .
---------------- */
@media only screen and (min-width: 1900px) {
main, .wrapper {
width: 65% !important;
} .header_back {background-size: 100% !important;}
}
But if you insist on making all the other changes as well, I can post the rest.
Hello, i've come here to report an issue i have with simpleportal, the default theme by itself is fine, here's an example.
i cant post direct link to images, since i'm less than 10 post. The first 3 shows what happen to the avatars when i have simpleportal installed, and the other 3 is when i don't. Forum version is 2.0.15 & theme version is the link ending with 18247 which i believe is the latest version with simpleportal support? Thanks in advance.
Edit - i am running simpleportal 2.3.7.

Alright, thank you so much for your help.
Hello again, can i ask for some minor help? i tried messing with the li.membergroup in index.css to display inline.block but its already there so i'm abit confused, i included some image on what im trying to do.
This is my forum currently.
https://ksource.ga/imagequick/image/9Tb
This is what i am trying to achieve.
https://ksource.ga/imagequick/image/A00
What i can change here to achieve that?
ul.reset li.membergroup, ul.reset li.postgroup, .poster li.warning, #basicinfo h4 span.position {
display: inline-block;
padding: 7px 14px;
margin: 3px 0 0;
text-transform: uppercase;
background: rgba(0,0,0,0.2);
color: #c9c9c9;
border-radius: 3px;
-webkit-border-radius: 3px;
-moz-border-radius: 3px;
-ms-border-radius: 3px;
-o-border-radius: 3px;
font-weight: 600;
Sorry for troubling you again.
You have two options
1. Add css to resize the images to 60px or less, but you'd have to make an edit to Display.template.php to add a class (What I'd do)
2. You can expand the poster area's width, here's how you can do that
in
index.min.css-> Look for:
.poster{float:left;width:14em
-> Replace with:
.poster{float:left;width:16em
-> Look for:
.postarea{margin: 0 0 0 14em;
-> Replace with:
.postarea{margin: 0 0 0 16em;

in index.min.css
-> Look for: .poster{float:left;width:14em
-> Replace with: .poster{float:left;width:16em
-> Look for: .postarea{margin: 0 0 0 14em;
-> Replace with: .postarea{margin: 0 0 0 16em;

Sorry for troubling you again.
No worries I'm here to help
I used the second method cause it will be easier to update in the future. It is perfect! Thank you so much. I have to start learning your theme's css.

No worries, glad I could help
hmmm....
I don't know that it's ever actually been done - but, in theory, the theme author could actually write a mod-package to update the theme files, thereby updating the theme without requiring a full reinstall of the theme and mods.

That's an interesting idea, although the majority install so many mods, and others make so many changes to themes that I'm not sure how often an update mod-package would be successful
but it's definitely something to consider, might make one in a next update

You can pass if you don't have any issues with jQuery and if you're not using simple portal
I do however think you should add this.
responsive.css
Add the following code at the end of the file /* HD Screens .
---------------- */
@media only screen and (min-width: 1900px) {
main, .wrapper {
width: 65% !important;
} .header_back {background-size: 100% !important;}
}
But if you insist on making all the other changes as well, I can post the rest.
Yes, I don't use Simple portal nor do I have any jQuery issues (that I am aware of).
Thank you for confirming that I can pass and for providing the code I need! I appreciate it!
This looks great!

You are awesome, cheers mate.
Found a minor css issue when using SP, tested it with lazarus too.
When using Nightbreeze in conjunction with Simpleportal, the nav #1 pagination does not inherit from the theme's css on the portal's page.

Yes that unfortunately is something as a theme creator can't do anything about, the brackets are hard coded in the software's source files, I already added a php line that fixes that with a trick on most pages, but it doesn't always work like in this case.
You'd have to edit Subs.php to accomplish this, assuming of course that sp uses the same constructPageIndex() function.

Yikes, i'll take a look around, but yeah so far i am loving this theme you've made, very easy to edit here and there. Also using your hall of fame mod, very useful.
For anyone wanting to make it better:
in Subs.php
-> Look for if (!$start_invalid)
$pageindex .= '[<strong>' . ($start / $num_per_page + 1) . '</strong>] ';
-> Replace with if (!$start_invalid)
$pageindex .= '<strong class="navPages active">' . ($start / $num_per_page + 1) . '</strong> ';
Nice template, congrats ;)

A mistake ? can you provide some screenshots or whatever Error message you're getting
Please note that you should install this theme in the THEME installer - not the mod package manager.
i installed this excellent theme, but when i used it with the modification to make the facebook registration work (a friend set it up to make it work), i lose in this theme the facebook quick login icon.
(http://i68.tinypic.com/30wl9ag.png)
(http://i65.tinypic.com/4rz09d.png)
you would need to take that up with the author of the mod... they are obviously overriding the theme styling
I'm not sure I understand what your problem is, but if what you want is to have the facebook login image link in the login popup (or whatever other links the mod adds) you'll have to do it manually
in Themes/NightBreeze20/index.template.php, look for this: <div class="downer">
<input type="submit" value="', $txt['login'], '" class="button_submit" />
<a href="', $scripturl, '?action=reminder">', $txt['forgot_your_password'], '</a>
</div>
Check which code the mod adds in index.template.php and add it after the code above
Did you install the mod before or after adding this theme? I ususally have to uninstall some mods when I add a new theme. Then I install them again and select all themes to get the mod's configurations set up again for the new theme. :)

example: (https://i.imgur.com/RLQMilS.png)
well, you'd have to look for
textarea.editor{outline:none;border:0;padding:10px!important;background:#fff}
and div#smileyBox_message,div#bbcBox_message,textarea.editor{border-radius:0;-webkit-border-radius:0;-moz-border-radius:0;-ms-border-radius:0;-o-border-radius:0;background:#ddd;border-left:1px solid!important;border-right:1px solid!important;border-color:#fff!important}

The avatars in the top left corner get their height stretched out. I've tested it on Chrome and Firefox. I also asked a couple of my members to see if it looks that way on their accounts and it does.
How would I go about fixing this? The stretched out, blurry, pixelation is driving me insane. Thanks in advance! :D

interesting, that might be it,
read this before you try to install it again
https://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Error_in_mod_installation
Although, it could also be due to uninstallation errors as well, your mod might not have properly uninstalled the first time
also keep in mind, the software takes a forum backup (https://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/A_mod_broke_my_forum)right before installing or uninstalling a mod, just in case smthn goes wrong you can use that backup in Packages/backup
well this is weird after backup was intalled i removed the mod uninstalled and deleted

Hi, loving your theme so far. It's very clean and professional looking.
Only problem I have come across is the disappearance of the top right menu buttons. It's now just showing the menu shortcut as if I was on a mobile device with a small screen.
I'm currently stuck using a 1366x768 screen resolution (using my TV) as I find it to painful to sit in my chair for long periods of time (back problems)
Is there anyway to stop some of the buttons from showing in the menu? More show up as more mods get installed.

You probably have a lot of menu buttons to the point where the menu overflows with them, so the theme is doing it's job by avoiding that overflow,

you would need to ask the mod author about how you can remove the mod's menu button, so you should post in the mod's thread

Amazing theme. Very good looking, great job. Thank you.
But I do have some problem.
I'm using "Like Posts" mod on my forum, and for a some reason, link (button) for Like options is meddling with signature block and it looks ugly.

Try this:

add <br> before it, like this <br><div class="signature"

Adjust the width of the forum container (marked in green) and leave it 50% narrow and to the left (marked in red)
(https://image.ibb.co/khxvp9/example.png)
Once that change is achieved, I want to remove the last messages from the bottom, and take it to the right of which we change the width before.
something like that :

What I want to do is the following...
Ok, this is the basics. I haven't played with resizing for all different screens yet. This is just basic desktop display. It will need some tweaking to deal with content issues on the board index table. You'll need to decide how you want to arrange the post and topics counts, and the last post details. There are several ways you can do these, none of which are particularly difficult.
I think that you are going to have to edit more than CSS.
You're probably going to have to add containers around the sections that you want to move around - and then modify the standard theme css containers and add the new container CSS.
as far as I can tell, it's not just a 1-2 line change
You talking to me, sunshine? The bloke who wrote half the markup and CSS you're using to post here. I know exactly what it requires. ;)
I just set it up on local for a few minutes of idle amusement. It works with the files I attached, if they are used to replace the same files in the theme's folder.
I know it's not my theme, but since it's something that goes beyond what most theme authors would really want to bother with for free, and since Boloh! said he wanted to learn more about coding, I thought I'd get him off to a good start. It's currently a workable proof of concept, but as I mentioned it still needs more tweaking.
No... I actually didn't realize there were more posts... :P
I was posting to Boloh and chayakorn above your post..

Until today everything has worked correctly.
But I've noticed that since I installed those files that you've attached, it no longer shows profile photos in recent messages.
How could I fix it? :P

I have no idea. :P That must be a custom theme setting somewhere. You'll have to ask Sych0 about that.

Definitely the problem is in BoardIndex. I placed the original files and it shows everything right until the replacement by the one that has given me. I do not blame you for anything, obviously, you have given me a great help and I really appreciate it! I would like to know how to fix it by myself in order to learn. I put both files on par to find differences and be able to solve it but I did not find anything haha
Ok, it's the global.
function template_info_center()
{
global $context, $settings, $options, $txt, $scripturl, $modSettings, $memberContext;
Compare that with the corresponding code for the rest of the board index:
function template_main()
{
global $context, $settings, $options, $txt, $scripturl, $modSettings;
Note how $memberContext is not called for the main template, but is called for the info centre. That ties in with this, and the bits just after it:
// Get The Avatar the easy Way
loadMemberData($last_poster);
loadMemberContext($last_poster);
So, if you add $memberContext to the globals for the main template, it should work. :)
Make sure you get the syntax right. It should look exactly like this:
function template_main()
{
global $context, $settings, $options, $txt, $scripturl, $modSettings, $memberContext;
Well, I already learned another small (big) thing!
It works correctly! thank you very much for always being there to help me :P

Yesterday I added this theme on my forum and it was the first time I got everyone happy with a look of a theme before! I've said it before and I'll say again your themes are fantastic, thank you for offering these to the smf community! :)
I have a question though that one of the users of my forum asked if it was possible to do... How can I make the navigation bar that has the forum name + quick search and theme options go down a little bit? So we can see more of the header image?
I think this is what you mean, add this css code main {
margin: 4em auto 0;
}
try and see, you can edit 4em to something else.

You'd have to ask in the mod topic, because the mod doesn't add the buttons to the quick box login. If the mod tried to do so but failed on this theme then I'd be able to help you, but if the mod doesn't even do what you want, you have to ask it's author.
This theme is very nice! It's modern. I hope that you will create more such modern themes.

New user and new to SMF overall, this is great theme....thanks to it's maker.
Still learning stuff and happy for all replies in to this topic.
EDIT : one question (stupid maybe) is how i can change those "unread posts" and "new replies" buttons to finnish which is my forums native language?
Also in own profile there is couple of lines in english, otherwise languagepack do it's job well.
Access your forum files through ftp or a file manager, go to Themes/NightBreeze20/languages
make a copy of ThemeStrings.english.php, name if ThemeStrings.finnish.php or ThemeStrings.finnish-utf8.php depending on your forum's language pack charset, then open it and edit it.

EDIT : yep that's ok now, i made changes in forums language files and they appears right now

Yes, but how i can change it's color when new is written? Now it's grey when no new messages and white when new message is written?
Using an image editor, like Photoshop
the image is the same, it's just slightly transparent (using css) when there are no new posts which makes it seem grey

In the images folder there is 3 pencil images : off.png, on.png and on2.png.
So what's the function of that on2.png image and I remove all those after replacing with new ones, right?
EDIT : i figured that out
on is new posts in that board
on2 is new posts in a child board, but not in the first level board
off is no new posts

Where do I go to edit the top menu buttons? I want to change the color of them.
nav .dropmenu li a.firstlevel, .user .dropmenu li a.firstlevel
you should use the browser's developer tools to see what's what.

However, there is a bug where the boards names between the first and last boards in a category get missaligned by 1 pixel to the left

hello again, how do i hide or remove the whos online in the startpage?

Hi, how i make that guests see only frontpage of forum but can't read topics etc?
you can not... you can turn off ALL guest access (so that guests only see a login window) or have the guests see an essentially blank index (by removign guest access to every board) but SMF, by default, only shows actions that the user can complete.
there are some mods that allow "teasers" but those are a bad idea and usually end up chasing users away rather than resulting in registrations

I actually think there's a simple solution (of sorts).
All you have to do is make 2 boards with the same name. One that only guests can view and the other (real one) that only members can view.
Obviously the posts and topic count will be zero in guest view. But you can write in the board description how much content is there to give a general idea.
that is a terrible idea, IMO...
either give them access to read stuff or do not.
trying to tease people is a bad idea and invariably results in losing members unless you have the only site on the internet with the content...
hell, even closing the site and not letting guests read content is a poor idea, IMO.
I seem to be having an issue with the NewsBox, It does not appear to be showing, (https://screens.community-modding.com/images/firefox_uOPA9M8kpO.png)
how can i change the background so it will be a complete background (picture) and that it not multiplying?
hard to describe, i want to put in a background image so when you scroll in forum it will be the same image.
i can only put in a image but it repeats it self so when i scroll the image repeats
something along these lines...
body {
background: url('your_image_url') no-repeat fixed center;
}
Wonderful theme, just installed it and I love it!
Please, is it possible to modify link to homepage? I.e. my site is on www.mysite.com and forum is installed in www.mysite.com/forum. I would like that users can easily leave forum and go to main content just by clicking on "house" or site name.
When I look at index.template.php, I can see that "house" is described as $boardurl that is set in settings.php. There, I defined new variable $homepage and modified index.template.php accordingly and now "house" is linked to homepage.
I tried to do the same with "forum title", there I see $scripturl. When I change it, nothing happens. So, how to link forum title to whatever I want?
the menu has nothing to do with the theme. The menu is defined in Subs.php and is coded in php -- only OUTPUT by the theme.
https://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Buttons_-_How_do_I_add_buttons_to_SMF_2.0
You should not be changing variables like that in the template.
Instead, you should be changing or adding to the menu array in Subs.php
Got that, thanks!
Please, how to increase font size? If possible, I prefer to increase all text by 50%, or at least posts.

Greetings, great theme.
But i have a problem with OneAll Social Plugin, because, on the login popup there is no option to login using a social account, I needed to set a footer link for those users that want to login using their social networks.
Any idea on how to add the social networks option on the login popup?
Anyone solved this?
If you add a new theme, after mods, you will have to manually apply the mod changes to the new theme
It's not that. First I installed this theme, and then installed OneAll Social Plugin. I tested it in default theme and in NightBreeze. On both, it is working fine for "Register" action. However, for "login" it is different.
In default theme, "login" is calling index.php?action=login. In nightbreeze, this script is not called, but instead javascript:void(0) for quick box login. In this box there are no social login icons. I can get them only if I manually call script index.php?action=login, but for guest users it will not be visible.
So I guess I just need small modification in this quick box, i.e. just add link to standard login form, but I have no idea what/how to change.
hello, how do i put in ads in this theme? i installed the "Ad Management mod" but i cant see the ad "boxes" anywhere on the forum.
is there something i can do for this to show?
How do I change the header background image? I tried using an image that was the exact same size as the original, but that didn't work because it was too "zoomed in" and only the middle part of the image was showing.
Hello friend. I want to ask how to change header background? I uploaded my custom header background in Cpanel and implemented the direction to "current theme -> url picture of the theme" in the format /smf/Themes/NightBreeze20/images/custom/headerbackground/ but the header background wasn't changed.

Change the html to load index.css instead of index.min.css in index.template.php
Yeah, that was Plan B, wiil do that today. There's an admin option in 2.1 to enable/disable minify, that's where I saw it.

Will try that, thanks. Nice theme, just started doing a bit of customizing here (http://www.thekrashsite.com/smf20/).
them is so lovely...
But try to update to support latest SMF 2.1 RC2
Please update or if is premium tells me...
themes for 2.0 would need a complete redesign to work on 2.1 -- and since 2.1 is only in RC state right now, it's unlikely that most theme authors would make a redesign at this time anyway.
AWW, Thanks
need some help, please
2 things
getting the default avatar mod to work with this theme
and getting the avatars on boards/message boards mod to work with this theme
oh sorry and also how to get the "Show Likes Notification" to look like the "unread posts" button?
thank you
and this is a very nice theme, thank you for it :)
Does anyone knows how to change font size?
Thanks for the creator of this amazing theme!
a bug?
so I don't want to use the font awesome icons in the menu as I already use my own icons
but every time I empty out the field and press save, it just puts it right back in there....
also I've noticed that when I put in some fa icon's they don't work, just show flashing circle
examples:
fas fa-quran
fas fa-mosque
fab fa-google
fas fa-spell-check
there were a few others but I can't think of them off the top of my head
how can I remove these from the menu?

The theme was not designed on the possibility of using custom icons, so no not a bug, working as intended.
If you're using custom icons then you are going to have to edit the source code, whether it be PHP, HTML or/and CSS, depending on how you're implementing these custom icons.

The FontAwesome version used in the theme is
5.0.13, those are most likely icons from new versions, also you can only use solid type icons for now. Theme needs updating.

I'll try soon, I'm finding it very hard to find any free time nowadays.
ok thank you.... I wasn't sure, hence the ? :laugh:
in what file is the menu template? maybe that will help me to achieve my goal.... my custom icons work (mostly, nothing to do with your theme, it's the alternative menu mod ;) I like colorful shiny icons ;) )
*again, I do state* this is a very nice theme and thank you for it... I like it so much and so have the members that I'm making several recolors of it for my members hehehe
Well, it's in index.template.php but it'd be easier for you to just add this bit of CSS
nav .dropmenu > li > a > i {
display: none !important;
}
thank you, I added that to the index.min.css, index.css, and responsive.css
that sort of works.... it gets rid of them when the menu first loads is on the top bar but when the menu is on the right dropdown/slide in menu thing (sorry lol how to explain)
they still show up
Not sure how you added it exactly, but in my local setup when adding it to the END of index.min.css, it removes the icons on all occasions. If that doesn't work for you then you'll have to use the browser dev tools to see what's up with them on smaller screens
yeah i'm not sure, it would load without them then when the page finished loading it would pop up again :o
thank you for your help, i found the part in the index.template and removed it .... seems to have worked without errors
How do I move this part down / up?
Is there a way to make this theme work with cbi v0.5 (Custom Board Icons)? Thank you for your amazing work!
sure... make the same edits in this theme as the mod made in the default theme. :)
Go to the mod page.
select the mod and version of SMF and click parse...
make those edits to the theme files as listed in the manual instructions
What if you uninstall the mod and reinstall the mod and while you do that, select the nightbreze theme?
At first nice theme, but i miss something, on default you have over every reply this "re: ......" and its a link how can i add this in this theme
ok my solution view single post mod, and some adaptions in display.template on NightBreeze.
My Problem is solved
Hello,
Fantastic theme. I could use the author's help on one issue though. I'm trying to get an ignore button placed into the display.template.php file of this theme but my PHP programming skills are next to zero. I know where to place code not to blow anything up but that's about it.
Would it be possible to modify the code below to produce a button that sits along with the report to moderator and modify buttons?
This would be for ignore user
thanks
// Ignore user?
if($message['ignoreuser'] > 0)
echo '
<a href="', $scripturl, '?action=ignoreuser;u=', $message['member']['id'], ';rt=', $context['current_topic'], ';rm=', $message['id'], '" title="', ($message['ignoreuser'] == 1 ? $txt['ignore_this_user_button'] : $txt['unignore_this_user_button']), '">', ($message['ignoreuser'] == 1 ? $txt['ignore_link'] : $txt['unignore_link']), '</a> ';
Hello,
is there any possibillity to add the "new" Icon beside the single Childboards at Forumindex? I cant see wich childboard have new messages at index, i see only the on.png on parent board
ok solved on my own
find
Quote$child['link'] = '<a href="' . $child['href'] . '" class="' . ($child['new'] ? 'new_posts ' : '') . 'tooltip buttonLike realTiny" title="' . ($child['new'] ? $txt['new_posts'] : $txt['old_posts']) . ' (' . $txt['board_topics'] . ': ' . comma_format($child['topics']) . ', ' . $txt['posts'] . ': ' . comma_format($child['posts']) . ')">' . $child['name'] . '</a>';
replace with
Quote$child['link'] = '<a href="' . $child['href'] . '" class="' . ($child['new'] ? 'new_posts ' : '') . 'tooltip buttonLike realTiny" title="' . ($child['new'] ? $txt['new_posts'] : $txt['old_posts']) . ' (' . $txt['board_topics'] . ': ' . comma_format($child['topics']) . ', ' . $txt['posts'] . ': ' . comma_format($child['posts']) . yes, i currently use it , I confirm.
width can be fixed in css
index.min.css
main,.wrapper{width:96%;margin:0 auto}
there is no index.min.css
only index.css
but the hint from ironside.legende is right
i have this, in index.css
/*determine la largeur début*/
main,.wrapper {width: 96%;margin: 0 auto;}
main>div.frame {
padding: 8px 10px;
/*determine la largeur fin*/
then what should i do

1/ Hassle theme author to get it right. :D
2/ In the meantime, if you need a quick and effective way of viewing the page, simply hit Ctrl+A on your keyboard to apply the browser's default highlighting to everything.
Kinda ugly, but readable. I use this trick myself sometimes, if I can't be bothered writing custom CSS overrides for every element on a gruesome site. :)
This is an awesome theme. I love it.
Is there any way to make the logo perfectly center? My logo always goes to the left.
thanks :)
Having a problem with main menu. Displays normally in pc view in english, but when german utf8 is installed and selected, we get the burger upper right.
the menu turns to a "click to open" when it is too wide, I assume with the german translation, some menu item titles are longer than the english version.
But I don't remember how precise the code was about the menu's max width when triggering the change to "click to open"
Ok, will see if I can shorten it a bit. Won't be easy, my german's pretty limited (scheisse!). Thanks.
Hello!
How can i get the link for a specific post in a topic?
This is something I would usually do by right clicking on a post title/subject and selecting "copy link", but I don't see posts' titles with this theme.
I mean a link like this: https://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=561383.msg4060802#msg4060802
thanks for the theme.

Look quickly and I may be wrong about something but you have to look at ../Themes/NightBreeze20/css/index.min.css between the lines 1611-1615 it should appear something like:
header {
color:silver;
border-bottom-width:1px!important;
text-shadow:0 0 2px #000;
}
change it to this:
header {
color:silver;
border-bottom-width:1px!important;
text-shadow:0 0 2px #000;
height: 200px;
}
You can change the value 200 to the one that seems most appropriate.
Regards!
Hi there is no index.min.css file in the theme CSS folder of theme NightBreeze20. as i have attached the screen shot you can see
Sorry for my mistake for quickly viewing multiple files, it should be in index.css between the lines 1785-1789.

I would say 40% done. I wanted to see if it was worth updating now, and if there are any people who have used the 2.0 version that would test the 2.1 one, to give feedback, because it's a little different.
Having a problem with newsfader on this forum (https://www.24thscalemodeltruckforum.co.uk/forum/). Doesn't seem to be any way to scroll long news item. I've shortened it and reduced font-size, tried overflow: scroll and overflow: hidden, scrollbar is displayed but doesn't work.
you can either try to change #upper_section div.news to have:
overflow: auto;
max-height: 95%;
box-sizing: border-box;
Or entirely remove #smfFadeScroller style block.
I'll try it. For now I just edited the news item and diddled the css to make it fit in the box. Thanks.
Hi,
i have some problems with responsive and a iphone 12 pro max. On this phone the Forum is shown in normal mode but not in reponsive. What i have to change in reponisve.css ?
That's weird, try changing in response.css all occurrences of
min-width: 425px
to
min-width: 428px
at first thanks for your time, tried this with 428 but it dosent work
I don't really know then, I have no idea how that model behaves.
You could try bigger values and see what works
ok, thanks, i try some other values
Love the theme, is it possible to make the avatars square instead of circle? All the ones I try to upload become squash and out of shape.
Look for .avatar in the css, it has a border-radius of 100% and a set width and height,
I can't give more precise details as I don't exactly remember and I cannot check the code right now.
Having a problem with disappearing login and register buttons. Both are gone when logged out, no way to login. Same in Lazarus. Lot of mods installed, don't want to uninstall/reinstall until we decide on a theme. Any idea what to look for?
is it the same in the default theme ?
No, I have to switch to ?theme=1 to login. I'm backing out the mods now, will see which one is causing it. Theme works normally otherwise, just when you logout the two buttons aren't there. You can see it here (https://playersprogramu.com/clone/index.php). They're separate from the main menu array. Is it a jquery thing?
<sigh> Found it. 'Show a quick login on every page' must be enabled or the buttons aren't displayed.
Having a problem with images in phone view. You can see it here (https://playersprogramu.com/clone/index.php). Images in articles (below shoutbox) are squeezed horizontally, you have to click on them to restore aspect ratio. It toggles back and forth. Images display correctly in Curve in phone view.
Hey @SychO, freshly minted SMF admin here...just wanted to say I enjoy your themes, thank you for your work in creating and updating them. Finding themes that aren't either super bright or almost black seems surprisingly challenging...this one looks like it could meet that need.
I have two (basic) questions:
1. Our site is running version 2.0.18; I see on the SMF themes page NightBreeze works with 2.0.17. Is it a good idea to try to install this theme on this set up, or should we wait for an update specifically made for 2.0.18? Or are there code mods I could make to the CSS/other files that could close any gaps for using NightBreeze with 2.0.18?
2. I saw a post that said you could use older version themes too, if you had the knowledge to adapt it to your SMF version. Where would I get information on the differences between SMF versions, so we newbies can learn to ask fewer such questions going forward?

Thank you,
1. It'll work just fine, the patch updates make very little changes to template files, so most of the time themes don't need to make any updates. Now the patches since 2.0.15 seem to have made a few little template edits that should be incorporated in my themes, but they are very minor and non-breaking changes.
2. if you go to https://custom.simplemachines.org/upgrades/ and click on a patch title (not download) you'll see the changes made between versions, you can then look for template files present in the specific theme to see if it was changed and what was changed, but the template file has to be present in the theme, otherwise it doesn't matter.
Thanks for your responses, SychO...and keep up the great work!

Hey SychO,
I borrowed your NightBreeze template to mash together a visual prototype of a color scheme my community is looking for, one that seems to be difficult to find among the many good templates we see here.
(https://i.postimg.cc/3Rcrxb3L/20210214-Theme-modification4.png)
We'd brighten it using a yellow-colored (#ffff00) font for links, white-colored fonts for informational details, header links, etc. In posts, the background would be black-colored font on a light-blue (#DBF3FA) background.
Our challenge is that our community has a number of visually-challenged people, which is why we're looking for a theme that is mid-way between the strong contrasts we find in most themes that lay between bright (hurts the eyes), and dark elements-on-black (which causes eye fatigue, especially for members who use smaller devices in bright areas).
We would like to modify the color scheme of your NightBreeze theme to achieve this goal. Can you tell me first if:
- You are OK with us making this kind of color scheme modification (and before you have to ask, your copyright information will remain on it...we want to ensure you get credit for your great work)? We also would not distribute or share it without your permission...it is your creation with color modifications only.
- I am a CSS student, but a decently fast learner...assuming you are OK with this kind of modification, is this something I can reasonably expect to be able to do, or are there complexities that could cause major issues? I plan on performing backups before starting each work session, and know to use the "inspect element" in the web browser to find each element I need to change.
- Any other thoughts you have on this idea (suggestions are welcome too)?
yes you can change it, so long as you leave the copywrites and things in place

it's to the point that now I've actually made the theme to use variants (https://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Creating_Multi-Style_Themes)
I plan on added some more colors later on, right now it's just green for the sites need and purple for one of the other admins :laugh:

it's not too difficult to do
this is one of my favorite themes and I've recolored it a few times :laugh:
it's to the point that now I've actually made the theme to use variants (https://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Creating_Multi-Style_Themes)
I plan on added some more colors later on, right now it's just green for the sites need and purple for one of the other admins :laugh:
Thank you for your response, shadav...I like what you've done with your site. I generally prefer to check my assumptions, and SychO's copyright you provided ticked that box.
I appreciate your tip on producing variants too, that could come in very handy, I'm going to learn more about this.
It's as Shadav says,
Quote
- I am a CSS student, but a decently fast learner...assuming you are OK with this kind of modification, is this something I can reasonably expect to be able to do, or are there complexities that could cause major issues? I plan on performing backups before starting each work session, and know to use the "inspect element" in the web browser to find each element I need to change.
- Any other thoughts you have on this idea (suggestions are welcome too)?
It will be very easy as long as you use the browser dev tools (inspect element) to change the colors, there really isn't much else to it, the theme is rather simple and doesn't use gradients and whatnot, so all of it is just plain colors, making it easy to customize.
So good luck.
Perfect SychO, I appreciate your insights. A year from now I'll probably look back on my post and laugh at my "noobness", but I suppose experience has taught me that sometimes it's better to ask
than to assume you've got it right and have to start over...lol
Thanks again.
Well, that's where we all start, isn't it, no one is born with the experience, and those afraid to ask either get nowhere or takes them a hell of a lot more time than those who do ;)
True and good points. I look forward to your next design releases.
SMF version: 2.0.18
I installed NightBreeze v2.0, but have a challenge. I looked through the preceding 17 pages of comments/issues, and looked through the settings...but it's still possible I'm missing something.
On the homepage, the Admin areas, any button on the Nav Bar, etc. the theme is present and working as expected on all items tested.
However, when I go to the "Board" or "Post" view, the old default theme is posting, not NightBreeze.
In "Home --> Administration Center --> Themes and Layout --> Manage and Install"
I don't allow members to select themes, Overall Default is NightBreeze, and I've already Reset everyone to NightBreeze
In "Home --> Administration Center --> Themes and Layout --> Theme Settings"
I attempted to "Reset all Themes", no change.
This is a new board, no mods installed yet.
I'm at a loss to explain why most of the board is NightBreeze, but part uses the former default theme. Any suggestions on what I can do to get the entire site updated?
1- possibly your cache?
2- possibly, you have set the board to FORCE a specific theme? (go to board settings)

Thanks Kindred...clearing the cache didn't seem to help on this one, but I understand your logic in suggesting it.
My flaw was to force the old theme (#2 on your list) within each board early on; updating that force made the affected boards go back to the overall forum theme default setting, not the desired NightBreeze theme.
For any other noob making this mistake, here's the path that gets you there to check/update the settings:
(Board Name) --> Administration Center --> Boards --> Modify Boards
Use the "Modify" link, then pick the proper "Board Theme" from the dropdown menu, then hit "Modify" to save the changes you made.
@shadav, I appreciate your tip below. If this new board were being designed for to attract new people into coming there, I'd tend to agree; that configuration provides flexibility for various user needs. My group has been on a specific board for a long time that we're now migrating away from, and our admin team believes keeping things easy is probably better than versatile.
Issue fixed, many thanks for your help (including shadav once again, of course)!
I always set it/leave it at
(overall forum default.)
I tried using the Administration Center --> Themes and Layout --> Modify Themes "Edit this theme's stylesheets" functionality to edit my index.css file.
Unfortunately it came up with the following error message:
QuoteInternal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator at [email protected] to inform them of the time this error occurred, and the actions you performed just before this error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
Nothing was noted in the system logs (Administration Center --> Logs --> Error Log).
My question: Is this the proper way to update CSS files in their servers? If so, any thoughts on why I'm getting this error?
Or do you typically download a backup copy to your local machine, make the edits there (Notepad, etc), and load the amended file over the existing file on the server?
Or do you do it a different way altogether?
Thanks in advance for any tips, insights, etc.
Well, you should probably contact your host, that error is not caused by the theme.

I'd use FTP and a proper code editor tbh.

that's what an FTP software will do for you.
I haven't personally used FTP in a while though, the projects that I work on I have local development copies of, I deploy local changes to production site once I'm sure the changes are fine.

Thanks for your response SychO, my gut feel is that it's permissions related...not the theme itself. But the reason the question is posted here is that I need to understand how to modify your color scheme and save it successfully, and I don't see a more appropriate place to ask that question.
So if I'm understanding correctly, you've create a literal dev environment locally to make changes and test them, then open/paste in the updated code/save the updated files over the existing (same name) production site files?
FWIW, I appreciate the amount you've commented your .css files, it helps noobs like me not to have to ask as many questions when trying to figure out what connects to what.
I use an ftp...that way if I accidently mess things up I can use the undo functions :laugh:
eventually I should set up a local copy so I can play with things and then upload them instead of doing it all live :laugh:
as for knowing where things are and what they do, css wise....depending on what browser you use, you should be able to right click on the area you are wanting to change on your site and then click on inspect, this will show you what css is being called and you can play around with it in the inspect tool before changing the actual file....in the inspect tool once you refresh the page all changes you made are gone
for instance, I can play around with this page right here, even though I have no access to smf files :p but once I refresh it reverts to normal
QuoteSo if I'm understanding correctly, you've create a literal dev environment locally to make changes and test them, then open/paste in the updated code/save the updated files over the existing (same name) production site files?
Something like that, in your case scenario you can just make the style changes directly through the browser, then copy past the file contents through FTP.
yes.... it is very easy to accidentally bork your forum by editing the css or template files directly.
The functionality exists and can be used -- but I would suggest only doing so when you DON'T have access to the host file manager or ftp.
Thank you all for your comments and perspectives.
shadav, I am with you (and SychO, previously) on the idea of using the inspect tool (Brave Browser/Linux). I was aware I could get the current colors in there, but not that I could alter them as a preview...thank you for that tip.
I actually had used inspect to successfully make several color mods using the SMF Admin/modify themes area, and the preview tool was making it even easier to ensure I was getting things right.
But I hadn't copied the modified index.css contents into a local file before attempting to save it...so the original file remained unaltered with that error, no impact on production (good or bad, lol)...but I had no backup of the mods.
SychO, I appreciate your way of gently guiding people to good solutions. Since my last post I found that I also have a edit feature as part of my host's File Manager. I tested it (added a comment, saved, viewed...then removed when all of that was successful). As an added bonus it provides line numbers, which I find helpful.
But as all three of you both pointed out, I agree it's wisest to develop off of production.
Kindred, you're kindness is showing through again. In a perfect world I'd have a second environment (Dev) where I could create and test my design before pushing it to production...and perhaps I will soon. In the meantime, I'm creating lots of backups of production, so if I mess it up I can at least get back to where I started.
I appreciate that all three of you are trying to help me progress, but pointing out the potential pitfalls too. This is a really good place to learn (and maybe someday when I'm ready, I can share some too).

Just checked their site, and Brave apparently supports Chrome extensions.
I suggest you install this if you want to play with themes: Stylus extension (it totally rocks) (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/stylus/clngdbkpkpeebahjckkjfobafhncgmne)
This allows you to not only try things out live, on any site, but also to save your changes as a permanent custom theme. I run it on several browsers and make my own on-the-fly CSS changes to whatever takes my fancy. It's a great tool for testing. The dark theme in my sig is done this way.

Hey Antechinus, thank you for this tip. I watched the YouTube video, and it looks like this is probably a great way to make changes to a theme.
While I'll still exercise reasonable caution (like backing up the "before" state before committing changes, and again after successful testing), I can see the potential for making mockups, creating new themes, upgrading existing themes, etc.
I really appreciate this tip, thank you again (just installed it).
Brief questions for SychO; On the home page mockup in the theme library, there are red-colored indicators I assumed highlighted where new posts were. One of our testers discovered that it's not present on our theme.
Is there a setting I may have missed somewhere that turns that feature on/off?
They are also a bit confused by how the "Arrow Nav bar" (for lack of proper terms...the one above the categories that shows your relative position on the forum (Home --> Category --> Board -->Topic) seems to have mixed functionality, part navigational aid, and part "New Unread Posts"). Is there a setting for that I've managed to overlook as well?

Those are indicators for unapproved posts not any new posts.

It's called the breadcrumbs (https://www.google.com/search?&q=web+breadcrumbs), but I'm not sure what you mean, how is it related to "New unread posts" ?

Hey SychO, thanks for clarifying the red indicators, our assumptions are showing. I also appreciate you clarifying the proper name of the breadcrumb menu. :)
The challenge we are having with the breadcrumbs menu is below, using this image as an example (sidebar: Is the image bbcode disabled? I think it would be easier for you to see and read, as opposed to having to switch back and forth):
https://i.postimg.cc/cLmg7fpj/image-3-of-3.png (https://i.postimg.cc/cLmg7fpj/image-3-of-3.png)
Issues Found: Unexpected navigational behavior on breadcrumb/Category Heading menus. Go Up/Down buttons appearing when there's nowhere to scroll due to two posts being present.
1.
TEST PROCEDURE: Start at the home page, click on "Testing Sandbox" category header.EXPECTED RESULT: Should show all boards within the category, and the last topic posted within each board, essentially appearing like the home page does, but at the category level only.
ACTUAL RESULT: Hovering over the Category header produces a pop-up box stating "Unread posts". Clicking it produces an empty area that states "No unread topics found since your last visit. Click here to try all unread topics."; no visibility to any boards or topics in this category. No easily visible way to get to Test Board One or Two boards directly from this menu; Breadcrumb area shows "Recent Unread Topics" as the current location, while we are on the "Testing Sandbox" category. Clicking "Testing Sandbox" on the breadcrumb menu doesn't take us to the "Testing Sandbox" category listing (expected), but rather returns us to the home page (unexpected, but does ultimately allow us to do what we want).
ISSUE: This will confuse many of our users, unless we're looking at this model wrong. The breadcrumb model (as described in the article you provided) seems to produce unexpected behavior that could leave some members lost...clicking on the category heading takes them to unread posts, which seemingly expire after a couple of days and would result in many members seeing no topic results depending on how long ago their last visit was...clicking on the category level of the breadcrumb menu takes them home...and so on.
2.
TEST PROCEDURE: Start at the home page, click on "Test Board 1" board. EXPECTED RESULT: Go Up/Down buttons shouldn't be displayed until a sufficient number of topics are posted to need to go to the top or bottom of the screen. Should see all topics available in that board.
RESULT: Both "Go Up" or "Go Down" buttons visible with two topics displayed (unexpected); what I see is exactly what you see in the image above. Clicking on the "Go Up/Down" buttons does nothing (expected). Clicking the category link in the breadcrumb menu takes us back home again (consistent with previous test, but still not expected). All topics are visible (as expected).
ISSUE: (modified) This was unexpected behavior reported by my tester. While minor in the grand scheme, we are trying to ensure we remove/reduce/explain any potential unexpected things that may give some members reason to resist acceptance of the new forum.
SUMMARY: If this is characterized this right (allowing the possibility that we're missing something that you understand differently), I may have to try to reconfigure the breadcrumb area to function solely as a nav tool before we "go-live" with our users, replacing the hybrid of navigation seemingly mixed with "most recent posts" functionality...and like to get your perspective on why the "Go *.*" buttons are appearing when they aren't needed yet, considering there's nothing to scroll.
Again, this isn't a complaint about your theme...I just know my users, and what it will take to get them to accept their new forum environment.
I'm hoping we're missing something obvious that we can simply explain to our members, frankly...lol
Re your Test 1: yes, that's standard SMF behaviour and yes, it's a bit weird compared to some other forum apps. There is a mod available to give similar behaviour to vB, phpBB, etc. It says compatible with 2.0.15 but it should also be fine with 2.0.18.
See: https://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=486
Re your Test 2: also standard behaviour. Those buttons are either enabled or disabled. TBH I've never liked them, so get rid of them and code my own.

I get that you're used to a specific behaviour by forum software you previously used, but this is how SMF works and is just a matter of getting used to, it's not as illogical as it may seem, the category name has a tooltip that says (Unread posts) and should be pretty descriptive that clicking will show unread posts in that category only.

That's just not something SMF does, it doesn't check for when to show the buttons, again I get that it looks odd since you're used to a specific behaviour.
Now, your options are either to get used to the way SMF works seeing as you've switched software, it's only natural that a lot of things will look weird, but once you get used to the way things work you'll see it's actually just fine.
Of course you don't have to wait and get used to it, SMF is after all very customizable, you can either get in the code and adapt it to your needs or hire people (there's a special board for that here) to make those customizations for you.
Hope that helps.

I appreciate your patience and kindness with my questions, and in your responses...thank you.
And I wish I had more in-depth understanding of where theme mods begin and end, so I don't inappropriately ask you for help on matters that end up not being related to your theme...is there some set of standards posted that explain what is considered core SMF functionality, and what elements are traditionally customized as part of a theme package?
On Test 1, I'll try the mod that Antechinus mentioned, and failing that our admin team may have to set user expections pre-launch so users at least have an opportunity to understand the differences between what they are used to and what is new, before getting frustrated.
Long term, we'll gauge user complaints to determine whether we need to create (or buy) a customization to address this challenge.
On Test 2, I appreciate your comments, and you're right. If it were just for me, I'd not even bring it up...I adapt pretty easily to new environments. But we're trying to look out for some in our user base have a harder time with change, and given this is not abnormal system behavior but a different model, our approach will shift from trying to fix it, but again to educating/setting expectations with users.
In the meantime we'll check to see if someone creates a new mod for that, or again perhaps we'll create/buy a customization long-term.
Thank you both...I (and our forum) appreciate your time in helping us figure things out.

I understand about non-malleable users. One wonders how the poor things ever learned anything in the first place. :)
There are various tutorials around the web for making such buttons appear and disappear, depending on how much page content there is relative to screen height. This one looks handy: https://getflywheel.com/layout/sticky-back-to-top-button-tutorial/
The only really relevant part is the javascript. You can do the HTML and CSS any of umpteen ways, depending on personal preference. I'm sure it's not too difficult to implement, but I have to admit I've never tried it myself. I just stick my top/bottom buttons over at the left side of the screen, which IMO is the most convenient location for desktop or tablets, and use a media query to shift them to the bottom of the screen on phones.
ETA: I'm somewhat curious now, so may play around with it.

In a former professional life I was a non-technical IT project manager/business analyst, so you made me literally laugh out loud when I read your opening sentence...so true! After several years absence from some minor HTML and CSS manual coding years ago, it's been kinda fun poking around under the hood, so to speak.
You make great points again. I just received a book I ordered called "CSS: The Definitive Guide", nearly 1,100 pages of just about all things CSS related...so I have a bit of homework ahead of me.
I've also found that sometimes if you need to remove some functionality you can comment out the code instead of removing the code. That is helpful if you find your fixes are not working the way you'd prefer, and you need to return to the previous version without having to go back to a full code restoration. You just have to keep track of your changes somewhere, so you get everything...and having a code editor that has line numbers seems like a huge lifesaver, in my experience.
I haven't had to dive into any Javascript or PHP yet, but I'm pretty sure I'll have to at some point...and yes, frequent backups are now the order of the day.
All of which makes me appreciate what SychO has accomplished with this theme even more...

I always thought the PM role in many organizations was the pressure relief valve for someone else's career...knowing full well the dismal success rate is on projects, all the higher ups had to do was blame the PM to get cover for them stealing your resources (or demanding unrealistic timelines, etc), then blaming you for the delay.
That kind of stuff drove a bunch of stress related ailments, so I tapped out after 20 years of it...my hat is tipped to you for making it so far. :)

I've just taken a closer look at it, and IMO their markup could be a bit simpler (it really only needs an anchor and a ::before) and their CSS is (as is common with a lot of tutorials) about twice as much bollocks as is needed to do the job.
Whether or not the javascript is over the top depends on what behaviour you want. If you're happy with just going straight to the top instantly, then the javascript could be simplified quite a bit. If you want the nifty animation, their js looks pretty good. But then I don't know much about js, so someone else might be able to do it cleaner.
PS: If someone wants to split the not-strictly-Nightbreeze posts out to a new topic that's fine by me.

I took a deeper look last night, and one thing that is missing is that version in our current model, if you are positioned at the very top of the page, you have a "floating
down arrow" that takes you directly to the bottom of the page. That's quite handy, when you are needing to see the latest post and/or add a post.
Any other position in the scroll and the floating arrow points point up, taking you back to the top on click.
And I agree the OT posts can be split off, and I apologize for contributing to so many posts that perhaps should have been somewhere else. All I ask is a link to where these posts are moved to, there's some things in here I find very useful I'd hate to lose. It's been good conversation, IMHO.
Back to on-topic discussion from here. :)

1) We tried adding the logo, expecting it to appear in the grid area (like it is on the download page), but it is not displaying. I can't find a configuration setting that will allow me to turn it on or off, and used a variety of different paths to display it.
I regressed back to the curve theme, placed the image in the "images" folder (like I did for Nightbreeze), and it worked there...so I'm at a loss as to what might be holding it back.
As you can see, the body of the site seems to be "on top" of the grid area...I'm wondering if maybe that may be contributing as well.
2) I figured out most of the color settings, but the location nav bar (same row as settings/search) is still challenging me. When I right click/Inspect, I don't see a setting that turns the arrows for each hierarchical element yellow-in-color. Is some piece of CSS tucked away in some other file somewhere, or what is this noob missing?
3) Is there a way to shrink the size of the buttons? Where the hamburger menu is, if all of those buttons are out, even on a desktop it gets disjointed. The row starting with the user account remains at the top left, and all the menu buttons are aligned from the right, but underneath that top row. I'm hoping it's a simple class update...otherwise I may need to go back to links.
Thanks for any advice or ideas on what to do.

They're pseudo elements, you're looking for
.navigate_section ul li div:after and

That happens when the menu is too big and about to overlap with the user menu, otherwise ugly things happen. If you want to disable that try removing the code inside the js `headerWatch` and `checkSize` functions (I don't remember what mumbo jumbo JS I wrote back then), otherwise you can try reducing the paddings on the menu items, maybe it'll fit and won't create the hamburger menu.

Did you put the logo url in the logo setting of the theme's settings page ?
I did in Lifeboat One --> Administration Center --> Themes and Layout --> Manage and Install, Logo Image URL. This worked on Curve, but not for this theme.
I assumed this needed to be formatted as a regular URL, like this:
https://(domain)/Themes/Nightbreeze20LB/images/lifeboat_Mod3.png
(Nightbreeze20LB is the actual and intended theme folder name).
Please let me know if any of this is wrong.

I'm using a copy of index.css in Stylus as a way to create a mockup of the intended theme (thank you for that tip Antechinus!) and using an Linux equivalent of Notepad ++ to find the proper line numbers from a second copy of index.css (i haven't found a way to search in stylus). I searched for ".navigate_section", "before" and "after", and it is coming up with "No Matches Found" my search results.
I am I searching in the right place?

It's not so much that it puts it into a hamburger menu that's a challenge (for responsive design, I see why it would/should do that)...it's just the sheer size of the buttons that I'd like to reduce. So in that regard, I'll give reducing the paddings a shot.

You need to do it in the theme's specific theme settings (just click on the settings cog next to the breadcrumbs).

Well I've never used that tool, but if you search for the exact two strings I gave you one at a time there has to be a result.

You need to do it in the theme's specific theme settings (just click on the settings cog next to the breadcrumbs).
So here's my results:
Using the cog (theme settings) icon, it takes me to "Lifeboat One --> Administration Center --> Themes and Layout --> Manage and Install. On the "Theme Settings" tab, "Logo image URL" text box is where I'm placing the URL. (It appears to be the same path as if you are going through the admin tool).
To help you with troubleshooting, here's the path and filename from the server file manager:
(https://i.postimg.cc/kGfjXV4f/20210307-Logo.png)
I copied the domain and database name directly from the file manager, and pasted them in; they are correct on visual verification.
I then tried a variety of ways to get it to display:
- From admin panel, the absolute URL for the logo image (https://(domain)/Themes/Nightbreeze20LB/images/lifeboat_Mod3.png)
- From admin panel, the database URL (/home/(database)/(domain)/Themes/Nightbreeze20LB/images/lifeboat_Mod3.png)
- I also tried using the URL from the curve theme that is working (https://(domain)/Themes/default/images/lifeboat_Mod3.png
None of these approaches worked. I then cleared the "Logo Image URL" block, saved again, and tried all three URLs again starting from the homepage theme settings cog icon; same result (no logo visible, no visible difference in the header or body area of the site).

This is fixed now...I was using the stylesheet for curve instead of Nightbreeze20LB...which doesn't include those elements. My apologies for taking your time on my mistake.
On a side note, the "pinned thread" icons have stopped displaying as well (they were there up to a couple of days ago), displaying the broken image icon instead. I've only changed the CSS so far, mostly color changes, and a few font and padding changes only, and added the theme logo to the theme's "images" folder. Here's what it looks like:
(https://i.postimg.cc/cJTM3vw3/20210307-Pinned.png)
I verified the file is still where it belongs (xx.gif), and even imported a former backup version in to replace it in that folder...no luck. I've run all the forum maintenance options, no errors found, SMF version is 2.0.18. This is stumping me as well.
You either accidentally changed something in the CSS that caused the logo not to appear (because from the screenshots I don't remember that being a thing) or it's a bug with the theme. I can't tell though, I'd need to take a look at the forum myself.

Hi SychO, I wanted to know if it would be possible for you to do something similar to what you did with SunRise with this theme.
I mean, that of changing from light to dark color and vice versa.
Since this seems like a very good function to me and to tell the truth, I like the structure and design of this theme much more. But it does not contain such a function.
From already thank you very much!.
I'm afraid I'm most likely not going to add any new features to this theme anytime soon, though it would be possible and easier to add to the new version that'll be compatible with SMF 2.1
for your own personal needs you could edit nightbreeze to be a variant theme (I've done this myself) and then create a lighter version to suit your needs allowing your members to use either or
or you can get real creative and create several different color variations ;D
The forum footer that is installed with this theme
(https://i.imgur.com/vioANHi.png)
now leads to a website that promotes items of a sexual nature. This is not something I can have on our website.

Cool, I see you have now changed the links on the theme site as well. There is still no indication in the change log for the them that the URLs had changed, but I guess that is now water under the bridge.
Perhaps I'm missing something, but there doesn't seem to be a way to be notified when a theme is updated and the installed theme is out-of-date? Also, earlier today when we downloaded the new theme, we ended up with two entries in the theme database, which implies that I probably still don't understand how to install/upgrade them.
are you using any mods?
if not, just upload the files overwriting the old ones in your theme's folder NightBreeze20
if yes, you can do as above and then go to each mods page and use the parse button and manually add them back into the nightbreeze theme
or just replace the line in the themes ThemeStrings.english.php to fix the footer copyright issue. (and if you use the german languages, make sure to change the urls in them as well)
you could download your current Nightbreeze20 theme folder and download the current one off the site and use a program like winmerge to compare any differences (though if you have installed any mods then there will be a lot of differences but you can ignore them and just look for the copyright differences in the files)
bwahaha or kill your server and open up every file of the theme in your ftp and do a find and replace with the old url to the new url :laugh:

Indeed, I only log noteworthy changes.
Having a problem with full width banner in upper_section on this forum (https://beardownu.com). Looks fine in pc view with fixed height -
index.css
#upper_section {
position: relative;
background: url(../images/custom/header.jpg) no-repeat;
background-size: 100%;
height: 220px;
}
On mobile emulations there's a gap below the banner that varies with screen size. If I give it a fixed height, looks ok on some phones but not others -
responsive.css
#upper_section {
position: relative;
background: url(../images/custom/header.jpg) no-repeat;
background-size: 100%;
height: 67px;
}
No luck at all with tablets. Is there any way to make upper_section height adjust to banner height on all devices?
what I have in index.css is
header div.frame {
display: block;
padding: 0;
/*overflow: hidden;*/
position: relative;
z-index: 1;
height: 380px;
}
div.header_back {
content: "";
position: absolute;
top: 0;
left: 0;
width: 100%;
height: 380px;
background: url(../images/custom/header.jpg) no-repeat center;
z-index: -1;
background-size: 100% 380px;
}
div.header_back:before {
content: "";
position: absolute;
width: 100%;
height: 100%;
background: url("../images/custom/02.png") repeat;
z-index: 1;
}
#upper_section {
position: relative;
padding: 12em 0 0 0;
}
seems to work as far as I can tell, don't think I touched responsive.css
I'm not seeing why height: auto doesn't work. It chops approx. 60-70% off the banner height, just leaves the top.
Just a brief follow-up...unfortunately our SMF experiment didn't work out for our community.
But that doesn't mean we aren't appreciative of the help people like SychO, Shadav, Antechinus, and others who lent us a hand in our efforts to make SMF and NightBreeze work for us...we are very grateful.
We wish you all the best.

Hi Shadav,
Thanks for your response and kind offer. SychO generously spent some time inside our site, and we couldn't figure out why it was misbehaving. I loaded the site twice (two versions of NightBreeze), one instance was used to make changes (sort of a sandbox configuration), while the other was the original configuration. Both instances ended up having the same issue, which we couldn't replicate reliably using multiple testers (very frustrating).
Long story short, our management team didn't feel we could deploy as-is so we've decided to try another approach to meet our need.
But once again, I'll say the problem isn't a lack of support. Many here stepped up to help in one form or fashion, so anyone else reading this...you have a great team of people here willing and able to help you succeed. You've been one of the best Shadav, and I hope you know how much I appreciate your offer.
Do you have any plans of updating your live demo site? It has appeared to be offline for awhile now and I would love to try some themes of yours.
I unfortunately don't have any plans to do that at the time being.
Hi.
I'm trying this theme in 2.0.17 and 2.0.18. In both versions I'm getting this:
Unable to load the 'main_above' template.
Tested other themes just to be sure it's not my forum and they all work fine, it's just this one.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!
EDIT:
Solved it by installing the theme in panel, and after that uploading the .zip and manually extracting it. For some reason all files were 0 bytes size. It's strange that other themes work tho.

I remember getting that bug when testing some of Bloc's themes straight from GitHub.
I've repackaged the theme, should fix the problem.

I can't post images or links here.
I have nightbreeze theme installed but browsing the forum on mobile has an issue with some options appearing only if you rotate the phone to get a bigger screen.
Please contact me for further information.
for posting images you should be able to use the forums attachment feature to attach images to posts
while the theme is responsive for some pages (that use the default theme templates) you will need to install one of the responsive mods
Hilbert (https://custom.simplemachines.org/index.php?mod=4269) or Responsive Curve (https://custom.simplemachines.org/index.php?mod=4040)
I believe the theme already has full responsive support.
Installing one of those mods will overwrite the responsive.css file from this theme and break quite a few things.
If you can't attach images, you could post a link to theses images even if it's not inserted in the post, we should bee able to copy/paste it to see the image.

Well, check these images.
ibb.co/MM299Dw
ibb.co/H27hHsY
What's exactly the issue there?
The content does not fit, so it moves to the next line.
In the first image you can see how the menu under the logo only shows just the topic you are viewing and for you to get back to the board ( forums > board > topic) you must flip your phone to get a bigger screen so other options may appear.
I may struggle explaining this reach out the forums at vs-clan.com go to any topic and rotate your mobile.

you're right, this is one of the few themes that doesn't rely on the default theme files (just a few none essential pages)
and sorry, I should have been more specific, only apply the responsive mods to the default theme not to this or any other theme, but yeah it's not needed for this theme
We've been using this dark theme for a while now and it's working out pretty well. (Apart from the previous glitch, but water under the bridge).
My majow issue with this is that there is no way that I have found to get a link to a specific post within a thread.
In the default SMF themes, there was a post number and a few methods to get a direct link to a specific post - eg
(https://i.imgur.com/X8P4hxf.png)
So, am I just overlooking this? or is this an oversight in the template, or a design decision?
the anchor link is the date
Quote from: Kindred on November 04, 2021, 10:24:50 AMthe anchor link is the date
Then I must have broken something in installing it, because for us, the date is NOT a link? ANy ideas where I can look?
nope.... you are correct and I was wrong. The date is NOT a link in this theme....
Yeah, in 2.0.x, removing the individual post-title from inside threads has broken the anchor link that points directly to that response.
edit - here's the fix
<h5 id="subject_', $message['id'], '" style="display:none;">
<h5 id="subject_', $message['id'], '">
you can do one of two things
in the nightbreeze theme folder in Display.template.php
you can make the posted time the anchor
mines modified so yours may be different but find or something similar
<div class="time_posted"><strong>', !empty($message['counter']) ? $txt['reply_noun'] . ' #' . $message['counter'] : '', ' ', $txt['on'], ':</strong> ', $message['time'];
change to
<div class="time_posted"><a href="', $message['href'], '" rel="nofollow"><strong>', !empty($message['counter']) ? $txt['reply_noun'] . ' #' . $message['counter'] : '', ' ', $txt['on'], ':</strong> ', $message['time'];
echo ' </a>';
or if you want to show the subject in the posts, which is the anchor
find
<h5 id="subject_', $message['id'], '" style="display:none;">
<a href="', $message['href'], '" rel="nofollow">', $message['subject'], '</a>
</h5>
change to
<h5 id="subject_', $message['id'], '">

I'm trying to follow your advice below but somehow it's not working the background of the text area, subject line etc remains a white/very light grey. I'm probably doing something wrong so could use your advice please.

No, but I might post a premium version compatible with 2.1 sometime in the future.
But from what I know
@SychO doesn't plan to update it to 2.1 :(
