Title: SMF 2.1 RC2 Released
Post by: Sesquipedalian on March 30, 2019, 12:32:25 PM
Simple Machines is pleased to announce the release of SMF 2.1 RC2. This second release candidate includes a number of bug fixes and improvements to security, stability, and performance. Notable improvements since RC1 include:
You can read about these and many other improvements in the list of changes (https://github.com/SimpleMachines/SMF2.1/pulls?utf8=✓&q=is%3Apr+merged%3A%3E%3D2019-02-04) on GitHub.

The term "Release Candidate" means that the developers believe this version of the software is reliable enough to be installed and used on production websites. Nevertheless, you should still expect to encounter some bugs in SMF 2.1 RC2. We encourage you to report any bugs you find.

You can install SMF 2.1 RC2 as a brand new forum, or upgrade to it from SMF 2.1 RC1, SMF 2.0.15, or any prior version. You can obtain an install or upgrade package from the download page (http://download.simplemachines.org/). You can read Installing and Upgrading SMF (http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Category:Installing_and_Upgrading) in the Online Manual to learn more.

Modification and theme authors are encouraged to check the roadmap for our upcoming development milestones (https://github.com/SimpleMachines/SMF2.1/milestones) when deciding how to update their modifications and themes for SMF 2.1.

Finally, as always, this announcement topic is not for support. Discussion and support for SMF 2.1 can be found in the SMF 2.1 support board (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?board=254.0).

Special thanks are due to all of the team members (https://www.simplemachines.org/about/smf/team.php) and code contributors (https://github.com/SimpleMachines/SMF2.1/graphs/contributors) whose fantastic work has made this possible. We greatly appreciate the time, energy, and contributions that they have given to the SMF project.

Thank you for using SMF!

Kind regards,
Simple Machines

Not to spoil the surprise, but in the next major version of SMF we will make ponies the main focus. And make sure it runs optimally on Pentiums and Commodores, it's all about time travel these days.

I'm throwing an eye on the progress at github, the RC3 is at 50%. This looks great, I'm really happy seeing how fast the issues are resolved.
If the current rate is kept, it seems that we'll see the Final months before the end of the year. What a great news!

SMF 2.1 is awesome. It really is an amazing update from old faithful 2.0.15. In my particular case, I had to deal with several major problems but, little by little, and with the awesome support of all the SMF family, I am a super happy upgraded user. I loved SMF 2.1 RC1, but I will surely love RC2 even more. Thank you so much for supporting my community since 2008!

They are going at an impressive rate at the moment. I checked the open issues list, and 16 of them are either waiting on pull requests or are listed as "Has Fix".  Of course there are bound to be a few gnarly ones that will slow things down, but overall it's going very well.

What even determines a potential RC3 release? Is it dependent on the bugs that early adopters report?

They have a list of existing bugs that are tied to the milestone for RC3. If any new bugs are found (not that this is likely to happen, nosirree) then someone would have to decide whether to tie them to the RC3 milestone or leave them for Final. Presumably that decision would be made on the basis of such technical considerations as "How much poo are we likely to be in if we put this one off until Final?" and "How much poo are we likely to be in if we attempt to deal with this one for RC3?".

See for yourself. :)

Go to the GitHub repository, click on the Issues tab, and search for "is:issue label:Smileys" in the Filters field. That'll show you the current status of all issues (both open and closed) related to smileys. If you want to see the status of pull requests related to smileys as well, drop the "is:issue" part from your filters.

I've been out for a long time and I see now there are two RC versions in a short period of time. Thanks so much to all the team who made it possible!!

I'll install it right now on a test site to report any possible issues and will evaluate the possibility to use it on a production site.

GitHub scares me, or rather intimidates me. I have totally no idea how it works, I appreciate your guidance but I'm wondering if there's a simple answer to this specific question:

"If I install a custom smiley set on my 2.1 RC2 forum, will that continue to work as upgrades occur?"

Another way to phrase this would be "Is it safe to install a custom smiley set without the likelihood of losing it subsequently?"

But rc does mean that there may still be changes,  if deemed necessary.

However... I will point out once again that this thread is not for support.

💩💩💩

Now that's a lot of poo ;D.

GitHub scares me, or rather intimidates me. I have totally no idea how it works, I appreciate your guidance...

It was kind of intimidating for me too, but actually, there's really nothing to it :). If you register a new account, all sorts of popups will start to appear that kind of guide you through the site :) and on top of that, if you ever find yourself in a pickle, you can always Google your way out ;).

Regarding reporting bugs, it works pretty much like a regular forum. You open a new "topic" and then the devs take a look at your "post" and try to replicate the bug you reported. If they can replicate it, the bug is confirmed. If not, in most cases, the bug report is dropped, but this also depends on the seriousness of the issue and if multiple users reported the same thing, but, for some reason, the devs can't replicate the behavior, etc., etc. So, in some cases, even though bugs can't be replicated, they're not marked as "bogus" bug reports, they're just kinda left for further analysis ;).

Besides, you'll ease the developers jobs if you report bugs directly on GitHub. It's designed to work with code, so it's easier to see which bugs and/or feature requests have been fixed, implemented, rejected, etc. ;).

Actually, I'm a beginner myself, still don't have everything figured out, but someone with a bit more experience using GitHub could probably write a tutorial... at least how to report bugs.

Hmmm... if it was for bug reports only, I guess I could make a small tutorial :)... if there's interest on the forum about it :).

I'm just a minor cog in SMF translation, but by my current estimate (unless somebody else steps in to help), the language packs I'm involved in will need at least 15(!) more weeks of my (free, unpaid, evening and weekend) time until they're ready. (This isn't even touching the code, features, bugfixes of SMF.)

But of course complaining is much easier than actually doing something to move the release forward.

Does RC2 resolve the various issues with custom smileys that had been reported?
I am waiting until I'm told the smileys are working before I implement a bunch of custom ones on my forum.

I'd be interested to know the answer to this also ... or is it elsewhere in the forum - many thanks
They shouldn't be changed from the database, and when uploading all the new files for the large upgrade process, it shouldn't replace any of your custom files (unless they have the same name/folders as the default ones, so they'd be overwritten).

Look folks, stop the complaining, these folks are volunteering their personal time to make 2.1 a final release for you and me. The more you complain, is not going to help make these same folks move any faster, in fact all the complaining could just make some of the volunteers just say to hell with it, and pack it in..Now where would we be, waiting even longer..

I know it takes time to do all the changes and coding, try taking a course in coding, for yourself, and see how you like it, it's tedious.

In stead of complaining, give these folks some "Praise" for a change, let them know they are valuable and worthwhile.

I like what I see and I can wait for the final..I hope you can also.

again slowed rc3 and the final as it will take a long time.
we want to see the final version if you give a little speed

Oh, that's brave.

Each version of SMF 2.1 is reset from zero. this is very difficult to regulate everything from the beginning

Umm no it isn't 'reset to zero' you just need to upload it differently rather than through the package manager. This has always been the case with alpha, beta and RC versions.  You do not need to 'regulate everything from the beginning'.

Now shaddup.

I assume he means that it removes all his customisations and mods... but that’s not a new thing (it’s been that way for 15 years) and if you’re making core changes and not either using version control or packages, you really are doing it wrong anyway.

To anyone complaining, do you work 24/7/365? No, I didn't think so.
Any free open source project is largely dependant on the community around it, and in SMF's case, more precisely the select community members that actually contribute. As more of an end user myself, as opposed to a dev - I think we are all lucky to have people interested in giving their free time away for our benefit, and even if we don't always all agree on everything, as long as I don't offer an alternative solution, I know I at least have to make a strong case for my differing opinion, and not just complain. ;) For the time being, 2.0 is also the only supported stable branch, and that means 2.1 can not always take priority.

I have nothing to contribute but I just wanted to say that there are a lot of us out here who know how long software development takes and do appreciate all the work you're putting into 2.1! Of course we'd all like to see the full release as soon as possible but I'd rather get a solid stable version in a few weeks (?) than an unstable and not fully bugfixed version right now.

Maybe start a Kickstarter campaign or something...

The reason being that 7.2 is going away and some compatibility patches are being worked on, along with a permanent fix for the infamous 2.0.14 login error, and some GDPR features. This, fairly obviously, needed priority for production systems over pre-production (RCs are not generally suggested for production unless you can patch/maintain it yourself)

Alright. And true: Almost 7 months have now passed since RC2 had been released.
Nothing ever since. Even the last 2.0 release (SMF 2.0.15) turns 2 years old soon.

What is taking so long or what slows down progress so immensely. Is that public, so we could discuss or help to bring things forward?

An Error Has Occurred!

If you continue to experience this problem you should try extracting the package on your PC and uploading the extracted files into a subdirectory in your Packages directory and try again. For example, if the package was called shout.tar.gz you should:
1) Download the package to your local PC and extract it into files.
2) Using an FTP client create a new directory in your "Packages" folder, in this example you may call it "shout".
3) Upload all the files from the extracted package to this directory.
4) Go back to the package manager browse page and the package will be automatically found by SMF."

Thanks. I’m assuming you’re directing your response to me. It has been a few years since I was an admin and I am trying to remember what to do ha ha. I noticed that the link to create a local copy is outdated. Does anyone know how to create a local copy of an SMF forum?

Basically, you need a backup copy of all files and database to make a working copy of the installation.

Sorry but is there ANYWHERE a type of step by step as to how to upgrade to the newest version from 2.0.15?

In the past, as you know, it was simply a matter of uploading the .zip file to the server. Took like 30 seconds.

Since 2.1 isn't fully released yet (only a "release candidate" with known issues), an update is only recommended if you know what you're doing.

Never been exactly that simple, and have you done it, you should know it. The procedure hasn't changed really.

If you go 2.0.x to 2.0.x+1, you upload the zip and you’re good. But going 1.1.x to 2.0.x was never that simple, and neither will 2.0.x to 2.1.x.

Is there a list or description somewhere of what features will be standard on 2.1 that 2.0 needed mods for? For instance, I know partial quotes are now possible in 2.1, which means I won't need that plugin in anymore. I'm just guessing (hoping?) there will be more.

OK thanks, then there are a couple more plugins I don't need. I like to keep things simple. I'm going to be doing a test upgrade on a copy of my site soon and will be able to take it for a spin. Hopefully it will fix my mysteriously broken Attachments links too, we'll see.

To be fair though, 2.0.16 hasn't been officially announced yet (it seems new releases are only announced once they are released, not when they're planned), and there is no discussion thread for it yet (except maybe the thread about the EOL of PHP 7.1 (https://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=569552.msg4030476#msg4030476)).

Update: I ran a test update on a copy of my forum and it went through with no problem. I had disabled all plugins except for the 2.0.x patches (15, 14, 13, 12). The best part is that it fixed a problem I've been having with bad links for attachments (https://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=570401.msg4037068#msg4037068) (images, .docx) added prior to 07/16/18. The personal avatars were not fixed, but they're not as big of a deal.

At the moment everything looks great, but if I encounter any problems, I'll put them up here. I realize I shouldn't us RC2 on a production site, but it sure is tempting.

This is just the discussion thread. Bugs should be reported on the GitHub page or here:
https://simplemachines.org/community/index.php?board=254.0

That being said, I'm using it on a production site right now because I'm on PHP 7.2.8. (I'm awaiting an update to fix an issue in PHP before I update to 7.4.x). Seeing how SMF 2.0.x doesn't support PHP 7.x in general very well, I didn't have much of a choice, however I'm loving SMF 2.1.x thus far. Development issues aside, it is actually very stable as of RC2. All of the bugs I've come across seem to be very minor, or are theme-related and were caused by third-party authors in custom themes.

I was also surprise to see a big drop on the number of issues opened for the final version. It went from something like 140 to only 81. It is now 57% complete. That is a huge increase.

I really wanted the curve color changer so started updating from 2.0.15 up and after I hit 2.0.17 I was planning on installing the 2.1 files -- no go. I keep getting told the files are empty when I try to load them in the package manager. The files are not empty. They're fine.

I'm way to tired after pulling 48 hours on a computer to do this manually and then be ready to deal with mod crash fallout from the upgrade.

Anyone else have this prob uploading 2.1? Is there some rule I don't know about about not allowing the package manager to operate with a not approved for prime time version or something?

  • I recommend that you do this on a test copy of your site before you do it on a live site. In that way if you encounter problems you wont need emergency help getting your production site back in operation.
  • If upgrading from 2.0.15, You must upgrade to 2.0.16 and then 2.0.17 before attempting the upgrade to 2.1 RC2

No database changes were made between 2.0 and 2.0.17.

Theres a couple I believe but they are minor (GDPR functions) also on upgrade your mods are technically uninstalled automatically since the code to run the db data isn't there given you're required to upload fresh set of files for 2.1

The upgrader is designed to get you from any version from YaBB SE 1.5.5 to the newest SMF version at that point. Ignoring external factors like PHP and MySQL versions.

Unless I'm mistaken, the upgrader doesn't uninstall your mods from the database. (At least it didn't in the earlier days). That's why people often have issues with lingering code. You should be completely uninstalling mods anyway if upgrading from SMF 2.0.x to 2.1.x, as none of them are cross-compatible unless they've been explicitly coded to be.

It's a volunteer project. If they were all getting paid and could focus on it exclusively, I'm sure there would be a lot more progress. I'm glad the developers have devoted as much of their free time to this as they have. That being said, it has undoubtedly taken an enormous amount of time. I can't imagine how many websites have stopped using SMF over the years due to this. I myself have been holding out for over a year and half (!!) for 2.1 since my 1.x forum has too much custom code to make it worth going to 2.0 just to have to change everything again for 2.1 soon after.

RC3 looks like it's going to be done very soon, and while it's still not the final version, it's probably mature enough to start planning around. It's what I intend on doing. If you're tech savvy or have someone on hand who is, you can probably manage the minor issues until the final version is ready.

He has kind of got a point though. There have been a considerable amount of scope changes in 2.1 over the last few years, especially for something that was advertised to me in 2013 as feature locked, and while I broke that, it was done so with permission of the then lead developer, but with an understanding that it would be constrained where possible.

I can't help but compare the amount of dev time spent on my fork to the entire dev effort spent in SMF and find the comparison... wanting. The only reason I'm not doing a release any time soon is because I decided to go native pretty URLs and drag some of the coding up to modern coding standards, which necessitated tearing it apart to rebuild it better. I have a lot to do but I'll be the stronger for it when I'm done.

I remember joking in 2010 that 2.1 would be 2020. I didn't expect to be proven right or possibly optimistic. And while I'll happily defend 'volunteers' all day long, I have to say that from the outside, it looks like the time that has been spent has been badly misspent.

Could it be an update from the package update

Not possible package updates do not occur in beta/RC releases.

To switch from rc1 to rc2

No, because the package would be too big for the package manager; you can't just mash the thousands of changes between RC releases into a package, it simply won't install. This is why people who can't/won't use the large upgrade are discouraged from using RCs.

He has kind of got a point though. There have been a considerable amount of scope changes in 2.1 over the last few years, especially for something that was advertised to me in 2013 as feature locked, and while I broke that, it was done so with permission of the then lead developer, but with an understanding that it would be constrained where possible.

Changes because of the EU GDPR regs must account for a fair bit of the scope changes along with maybe a few PHP (new versions of PHP either breaking stuff or stuff uses deprecated functions)

In the case of 2.1, the PHP compatibility stuff was done a long time ago for the most part, and the GDPR stuff was released for 2.0 and only recently got an issue on the tracker to be ported forward to 2.1.

I'd point out that I'd implemented GDPR export, suitable TOS policies and the cookie handler in 2018 for my own stuff. It's not suitable for SMF core because I did some other massive rewrites of everything else such that my data export is actually more complex than SMF's because in my case I have sub-account handling to deal with and the notion that posts belong to sub-accounts that could conceivably move between accounts so therefore I have to additionally track the original creator of a post, as well as which account currently owns it.

Sorry for being mean but I don't understand why I doing it in my spare time can get through it when a team of people doing it in their spare time apparently couldn't, especially with a community of people around them who also include developers.

https://github.com/SimpleMachines/SMF2.1/issues/6075 seems like a pretty big thing missing that was built for 2.0 and needs to be ported forward to 2.1 rather than the other way around.

Just sayin', again, I'd got my version straight in 2018 for this. I'd submit it to the team if it was any useful, except the divergence made between 2017 and 2018 in my code base made it unusable for SMF.

Just had a quick look at the milestones page, looks like a little bit falls foul of SQL strict mode in MariaDB (would assume it'll be the same for the strict mode in MySQL)

Just reading through the comments for the other issue, spotted this:

Quote
Yeah, unfortunately we are not (yet) able to make the SMF 2.0.x codebase publicly available due to arcane legal complications, so I can't give you direct access to see the code changes that were involved.

How can that be when the 2.0.x is open source?

Like he said, *arcane* legal complications. It’s a long story, one I don’t really want to dig up.
Title: Re: SMF 2.1 RC2 Released
Post by: m4z on May 01, 2020, 03:27:22 PM
At the danger of getting details wrong, I think it can be summarized this way: Early pre-2.0 development versions (betas, RCs, whatever) weren't under a free license, so they cannot be made public (and realistically, the legal conditions under which the situation could change will probably never happen, so it won't change).
And while the releases that came later under the changed, free license apparently can be released as open source (even though they might still contain parts of the initial code), the "full" earlier versions, and hence the version control repo (containing the change history and the complete older, non-free versions), cannot be made public. (And I guess for the same legal reasons, you can't just release a modified repo that contains only the open source parts, because that would omit their contributions.)

You should all be focussing on 2.1 anyway; you probably only need the diff between 2.0.17 and the current 2.1. :P
Title: Re: SMF 2.1 RC2 Released
Post by: Arantor on May 01, 2020, 03:31:49 PM
Something like that, though I'd note that 2.0 betas and RCs are still available for download as far back as Beta 3 Public. The actual answer is a lot more involved and relates to copyright law more than the licence per se, and more specifically who has what rights to what code where and when. It's murky as all hell especially if you realise that large, non-trivial parts of 2.0 are still the same as their 1.x counterparts.

In any event even if the repo were made available somehow, the connected build processes definitely can't openable.

Quick question....

Running 2.0.17... lost 12 years of data last year due to host, want to import... Is it advisable to install 2.1RC2 and build the new database there from two 2.0.x versions? Or can 2.0.x be easily converted later on when 2.1 is released?
Title: Re: SMF 2.1 RC2 Released
Post by: Arantor on May 09, 2020, 05:52:43 AM
This really isn't a support venue, but the short version is when 2.1 is fully ready to go (2.1 is in development; RC2 is an in-development build with many known bugs as it is a year behind the main development code)... you can upgrade a working 2.0 to it. Fix your 2.0 setup and get that working first.

No. It's just that what was shipped with 2.0 was apparently not good enough for 2.1.

Title: Re: SMF 2.1 RC2 Released
Post by: d3vcho on July 28, 2020, 10:31:17 AM
Our developers are volunteers as well. Sometimes we just can't pull the time to commit 50-30 commits per week, and that doesn't means it's not active. It is, less than some other periods, but it is.
Title: Re: SMF 2.1 RC2 Released
Post by: DenDen60 on July 28, 2020, 11:12:21 AM

I know they are volunteers and I know what it is. I have been a volunteer in many organizations.

However, sometime the level of enthusiasm of volunteers is brought down by the "organizational culture", which has an impact on the interactions of the volunteers which in turn affects the  quality and quantity of work accomplished.

Hence, what I am asking when I ask if there is a fire in the house, is if the "organizational culture" is conducive to good interrelations. If they aren't then, maybe firefighters should be called in. If there is no fire, then, that is good new. I will continue to be patient.

Hence, what I am asking when I ask if there is a fire in the house, is if the "organizational culture" is conducive to good interrelations.

Sure it is! As you saw, back in May we had a higher flow of commits in the repo. Nowadays it isn't that high, and the reason is plain and simple: the volunteers don't currently have as much time as they did back in May. We as an organization can't make any changes on each individual's schedule so that that flow gets high again.

We can't release RC3 because it's not ready, because the volunteers didn't find time to dedicate to the pending issues.

I haven't checked it yet today, but last I read yesterday, they just had some minor details to work out, including fixing one bug that was somewhat unrelated to that final report. Sesquipedalian also requested some changes, but he has mysteriously vanished over the last few weeks from what I can see.

Will compatibility testing with PHP 8 be done with RC3 or RC4?
PHP 8.0 is not out yet and that is a huge undertaking. I'm doubting that will even be a part of the final release of SMF 2.1 unless the changes necessary are small enough before a final release is made. PHP 8.0, from what I've read, is a massive change in their codebase that is going to significantly effect compatibility with web applications across the internet.

SMF 2.1 RC1 released 4 Feb 2019
but upgraded from 2.1RC1 to 2.1RC2 25 Apr 2019

but SMF 2.017 which appears to be an older version was released later on 30 Dec 2019 ???

We have a few issues with our current version so it would be great if there was a newer version.

SMF 2.0.17 is the latest production release.
SMF 2.1 RC? are 'release candidates', and are not advised for use on production forums.
If you are already on 2.1 RC2, you will need to wait for 2.1 RC3, as there is no migration path from RC2 => 2.0.17.

Hey guys, I'm still in the arena of looking around all the forums and which one to use. I've come back to SMF and phpBB - the thing is being mobile ready is a big thing on my list. I just checked some of the Themes for the Beta and I was thinking it actually looks pretty good the few there are. Anyway, going to try it again and install it again and try out the Themes on my mobile and get a feel of it.

Anyway, I just saw you fixed all the bugs for the RC3 as well? But I don't see it around anywhere - I guess the last touches are still being made. Oh well. Nothing else then to try it out and see how the themes shows up on my mobile. phpBB seems more... I don't know, but I was very interested when I saw what already had been made for the new Mobile ready SMF... It's a hard choice you know choosen something which might be needed and used for years.

I've given up on Flarum, thinking about it - it works in this modern way which I find confusing and really the old model worked just fine! But it is Mobile ready although still in beta but looking at how one of the main programmers trashed FluxBB for mobility and turned to Flarum who knows what will happen then with Flarum. And they kinda booted me as well from the forum, a couple of times as well last time I was on fire to try it out, use it and set it up. It seems they are kinda more touchy on things and closing topics which are interesting here and there, very anoying. Although I wonder if they are more touchy as well with things because this new modern way of handling things with Tags might have its weaknesses compared to the old working model which has stood its time.

So thinking hard on it, what might be the better choice, phpBB and SMF seems to be the better choices. And the Community is less aggressive and more welcoming. Which is also kinda important if one wants to seek help and support. Without some braines to help out here and there - it's going to be hard overall when one gets into an issue down the road.

Both phpBB and SMF seems to still be alive and ongoing php forums, I'm just concerned somewhat in regards of how the mobility is. I'm going to install SMF again and maybe phpBB on my hosted server and make another test drive.

The problem I had with phpBB was that its just not totally to my liking, like there is not really a theme that seemed to do it for me as in regards of what I wanted. SMF seems that it is more in the style that I wanna, I just gave up on it because the mobility was still in Beta last time. But, it seems it can be used anyway, even if it is still in Beta. The Themes seems to be somewhat more of the nature I'm looking for, and more I'm sure will come as time goes. So anyway... Sorry, I think a lot over things... Just download and install I guess and try it out again and the themes ;)

I think there was like 4 or 5 mobile themes for the new Beta on the site - can't remember if there was anything else with SMF out of the package.

Anyway, anyone have some SMF forums to check out that are active? I guess it is easy to add a top bar to SMF? maybe...
This is using markup right? The good old standard which forums have used and which has stood it time. Not the new modern markdown nonsense which usually ruin my text when writing because it activates here and there.

Hmm, looking at the post reply thing here, reminds me of a text editor and it seems to work very well.

Anyway, I was just thinking about the RC3 as everything seems to have been fixed on the github page as far as I could see.

Dearly Regards and Jehovah bless

Just an idea, although it might already be fixed in the new version. My name is clearly to long for the forum - would be nice if it maybe made it smaller automatically so it would fit if it goes beyond where it should. Anyway, might have already been fixed in the new version. Another way of cause to get around this is to narrow the letters you can use for names.

Anyway, I had something else on my mind which I seemed to have forgot when I saw the fluck. Oh, yea I remember now - is the Forum in the tongue of Danish? Not that I care but the users might to at least one of the things I was thinking of using a forum for.

Dearly Regards again - and thanks for all the help, going to read some more on the forum.

Regards the RC3, yes all issues are sorted on github, so stay tuned :)

You can find nice responsive themes, or even customize existing ones to fit to your needs. 2.0.x also has some nice responsive theme, so might worth to try it as well.

Awesome, I'll have a look on the themes of 2.0.X - I just thought they had to be for the beta. It seems there are 6 pages of themes for whatever 2.0.x I'll have a look at some point. It seems one needs to install things 1 by 1, like I wanted to just install all the themes by one action yet it seemed I need to do it manual for each one of them when I tried last. Well, not a biggie - was just wondering.

Production forums? would that be like big Firms that need total stability and such?

Ehh, kinda.  It refers to the SMF installs which are not test or development sites. Like this one.

(Yes, I grow weary of the wait. This is/will be my only public "complaint", though, because I *am* Mr. SMF, through and through...)
