it is ok to have these as chmod 777?

755 is better but does not work on all hosts.

i had it as 755 but then I started to get error logs because SMF needs to write files inside these folders...

Both are set to 755 on my test forum, not seeing any errors ???.

then your host is set up differently then the ops.
