Title: Blocking a Chrome Translator on a website
Post by: Mommsen on June 05, 2019, 07:27:57 PM
Hi,

This question will show my total ignorance of the subject at hand, but I would like to know if it's possible to block the  use of a Chrome language translator in language  classes conducted in SMF 2.0.15, in a password protected area of the site which teaches the language in question.

In other words, it has come to my attention, thorough the admission of those involved,   that some students are doing the work of the class with the use of the Chrome Translator in that language.

I know sometimes if I go to another site if I put a cursor on a painting to see it better it responds sorry you can't...whatever it thinks I want to do.  Is that possible to do for the Chrome Translator on the version of SMF we are using? We can't ban Chrome entirely as some sites do Explorer because we have Google Ads.

In reading your instructions I would add we would be willing to pay for this mod, which ideally would affect any student in any password protected class.

Thank you for any response or help you can give,

:)

Maybe it doesn't need a mod at all. Would this work on all Discussion pages of any SMF  site?

Try it and see. But there's always more than one way to do everything. They will just copy the verbiage and dump it in any one of the other online translators to cheat. That's what kids do today. Why bother learning when you can cheat your way through everything?

Ok thank you, we'll try it and see. The SMF site has worked so well for us we hesitate to do anything to it  without checking lest we muck it up and it crashes.

:) on the cheating; these are not kids, either.  I know, despite how clever the technology is that enables this translator to be employed,  there is somebody somewhere smart enough to combat it.  I can't wait to try.
