Hi guys, i'm having some serious difficulties in finding a working sitemap solution for my SMF forum.
For some reason the following mods are not working for me, I keep getting the "Sitemap could not be read" error on Google console...
- https://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=755
I tried several sitemap url combinations, several plugins and I keep having the same issue.
Are you guys having the same issue? What are the possible solutions?
Use the site map mod by kress.it
After you install it, open it up. At the bottom, click the link for the XML version. Give the url link for that to google and bing.
Optimus sitemap, (while packaged with the full SEO mod) is the only sitemap I've found that works with Google and Bing. Those other ones didn't work at all.
I'm running the kress.it mod on 2 forums. Google and Bing both accepted the path to the XML file for me.
Still not working... Any ideas why?

That's probably because the URL path is wrong :). See the second sitemap URL and where it says "Success", that is how the URL to the sitemap should look like in the example above, through PHP commands (don't know if you could actually fetch the sitemap file like this... maybe some of the sitemap mods have functions like this implemented).

Can you take a screen shot of your Google search console to show what your path looks like with "success" confirmations?
Did you upload those special HTML files to the right places to verify that you are the owner first?
Here is a screenshot of mine. Hope you can view it.

That's a link to your search console web page.
/index.php?action=kitsitemap;xml
This is what i have entered and it was accepted.
I finally found the problem. For some reason my robots.txt file was blocking Google...
Just curious, what wound up being the correct path to your sitemap xml file?
