We are running SMF 2.0.15.
Our forum has a paid subscription group named "NG Supporters".
We would like to modify that group by disabling auto-renewal.
Admin > Members > Paid Subscriptions > "NG Supporter" > Modify > Edit Subscription > Allow user to auto-renew this subscription.
However there is a red warning on the page which says "Note that as this group has existing subscribers the group settings cannot be changed!"
So what do I do in order to disable auto-renewal for NG Supporters? What happens if I uncheck that box and Save?
I did look at the Help Manual and found no specific write-up for this problem.
Thank you in advance for some help with this. :D

you can not.
There is literally no way.
Once auto-renew/recurring has been set on a payment in PayPal - the ONLY one who can change that setting is the subscriber - from their own paypal account.
Thank you for the quick answer!
We will instruct our current subscribers to turn off Auto-renewal in their own PayPal accounts.
Can I go ahead and disable Auto-renew for *future* subscribers by unchecking that box and saving?
yes. :)

You may want to clarify for your users' benefit, it's not called auto-renewal in their PayPal account. A recurring payment is set up as a subscription, that's what they have to cancel. If they leave it in place, their forum subscription (different thing) will continue to be renewed on expiration. Not sure, but I believe the PayPal API provides a means to cancel a subscription, but it was never incorporated into SMF paid subscription feature.
Thank you both, Kindred & Sir Osis. It's all clear now!
Great help!
