Hi all
It's about time I gave somthing back .... so here goes.
I've written some php code that does the following to run on my own site at: http://www.menkaura.com/Forum/index.php
The code canbe downloaded directly at: http://www.menkaura.com/Forum/index.php?topic=212.0
1. Reads all the topics in the SMF database.
2. Create an 'htm' file of the topic in a directory called '/SEO/' just off your root directory.
3. Insert into this htm file your keywords generated from the topic title. Words contained in a bad_words table will be excluded from
the keywords that appear in the title.
4. Create a MySiteMap.htm file with all the topic links. Link this file in your own site index.htm file and let Google do the rest.
5. First change some of the variable values to reflect your particular setup.
6. I suggest that you run this script as a cron job as appropriate.
I make no claims of being a coder or indeed to have any great insight into the in's and out's of SMF so be gentle a lads and lady's ....
Regards, Gary
Isn't this just a non-dynamic version of the "optimize for search engines" feature?
Does this violate Googles TOS in any way?

Yeah, duplicate content thats intentional.
What no takers???
Actually lads and lady's the reason that I wrote the above script was because of the experience of a colleague who switched over to VBulletin. He bought the VBulletin forum and subsequently purchase an SEO package that basically changed all the forum topics into 'htm' pages ... much to the delight of Google by all accounts. So this is my basic attempt to do the same free of charge.
Off course I certainly don't know as much as all you brilliantly minded people. Actually I must say that in the PHP and open source community there does seem to be a 'my head is bigger than yours' attitude that I very much suspect will be its downfall in the fullness of time. Lighten up lads and realise that there are a whole lot of mere mortals out there that are really quite genuinely interested.
Either way it's there and certainly working for my site having created my form Site Map index page at http://www.menkaura.com/SEO/MySiteMap.htm
As for duplicate content ... no not from where I'm looking. Google doesn't index my SMF forum topics and that the problem!!! So it's just a case of making the process a bit easier for Google and presenting webpages other than php. Also even if Google did index my sites smf forum pages they would get all the keywords refering to smf etc which seem to be there on every topic represenation. With my method the keywords presented are taken from the title of the topic so clearly represent the subject matter being discussed.
... and to boot you get a forum site map.
Google and MSN are indexing my forum just fine, its only existed since last Saturday, 7 days.

MSN is already refering people to my lyrics database, and google has sent people to my forum (Source: Google Analytics)
All search engines also say 100 links per page, you just generated 363.
Google offer sitemaps, and theres an SMF mod for it, try it, it works within a day.
Its ofcourse up to you if you want to try this, but it may give you a short term benifit, it may be long term, but they can pull you from there index and ban you from it within seconds.
Yeah the search engines do index content. They may not get every page, but they do pretty well. Plus, SMF has an option built into it that converts everything to .html/.htm files, if you want that sort of thing.
menkaura you've done a good job but what's really keeping me back from using this is that I do not want google to remove my website from their server. I will have to take a look at their policy and find out if this is ok to use.
