Title: SMF Forum 1.8 is down with white page
Post by: Guiness on September 16, 2019, 10:34:43 PM
I just tried to log onto the site and its probably been down for 5 months.
All its displaying is a blank white page. This happened a a year ago and hostmonster was able to fix it, this time they had a look and couldn't fix it.
I haven't touched the site in years and at the moment my head is throbbing (at home sick- don't know why i decided to log on, I wish I didn't) and now I have more to stress over.

I read some other threads with the same issue, but nothing i tried helps and some don't make any sense to me in this condition.
I can't see any errors or not sure where to look to find them.
Can't access the admin page either so I can't upgrade to v2 (if thats the only way to fix it)

The site is www.worldofprophecy.com/smf (http://www.worldofprophecy.com/smf) if someone can have a quick look and give me some advice that would be awesome, thanks.

Probably requires an upgrade to SMF 2.0 If so I would download the large upgrade files. The first thing to out is what PHP version your site is running now.
Did you have a custom site or setup?

Ask your host what version of PHP they have installed, since I believe SMF 1 won't work on anything higher than 5.5 or 5.6.

In regards to upgrading to 2.0.x, you don't need to do that through your admin panel; it can be done through your c-panel (or whatever control panel you have), or via FTP

Take a look at this: https://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Upgrading

1.1.x will start logging lots of errors as of php 5.5, but forum should still run.  Don't think it will run in 7.0, never tried it.  There is no SMF 1.8, are you running 1.1.8?
