is it BoardIndex.template.php ?? If yes then which line? I could not see "started by user" line.
That would be in the language files. index.english.php in the Themes/Default/Languages folder
The display of that is controlled by MessageIndex.template.php.
Looking at the parse of this mod may give useful directions about where it's happening.

No, you can't just randomly grab code like that :( you need to rewrite the SP block to make that work the way you want, I think.
