Title: No message or notice telling members they've been made a moderator
Post by: ajac63 on November 19, 2019, 04:53:47 AM
The issue I've been made aware of a few hours ago by one of my members that was made a moderator, is that there wasn't a message or notice of any kind.  I had to respond to a PM asking if the application was accepted.  So, shouldn't some sort of notice be generated informing a member that they've been made a moderator?

Not 100% sure if this is a bug and that therefore this should be in 'Feature requests' or elsewhere if it isn't.  Apologies if this is the case...

by default SMF 2.0.* does not tell users when their group has changed. that is up to the forum staff to handle manually.

Especially because a change in member group doesn't automatically imply moderator.

Yep, I see some of the rationale here, but surely if someone has applied to be a moderator (to join a moderator group), then the person accepting the application should at least have the option of leaving a message so the applicant knows that it's been accepted.

you mean from the moderation center the moderator of the group has the right to accept or deny the application to the group?

currently in SMF 2.0 there is no feature to leave feedback when approving the request.

Yep, that's it.  I found the request and granted it but couldn't find an option for giving feedback, then the next day discovered the PM asking if it had been.  Obviously the applicant had no idea it had been accepted.  But if there's no such feature, then I suppose that's that.
Anyway, thanks for helping, in future I'll know what the situation is.

I don't know about the situation in 2.0, but in the upcoming 2.1, if the user requested to join a group via the forum mechanisms, a notification will be sent (if the user has enabled mail notifications) and an in-forum alert will be displayed.
I don't think there's a(n automatic) possibility to inform the user in case of an "unsolicited" group membership. I totally agree that would be helpful (not only for the moderator group but for any group).

This would be welcome very much, shame it's not available in 2.0 though. :-X  Sorry for late reply also.
