Otsikko: Need Help in Moving forum to sub folder
Kirjoitti: Pawan - joulukuu 26, 2019, 03:05:36 IP
Hi All,

I want to move my forum to domain.com/forum, so I copied all the files to forum dir and added "repair_settings.php" to correct the paths.

But while opening  repair_settings.php, I am getting 404 error. Even "forum/index.php" is giving 404 error.

Also, I tried to change the permission to 777, but getting the same error.

If repair_settings actually is at /forum/repair_settings.php you shouldn't be getting a 404.  777 permissions are not allowed on some servers for security reasons, 755/644 should work.

That's the thing.

The file is there under domain/forum.

Are you linking to it directly?  www.yourdomain.com/forum/repair_settings.php
If it's a permissions problem you'd be getting a 403 forbidden error.

Yes, linking directly.

404 means no file present on the server. That is really strange. I have even tried to change the browser, but still seeing the same thing.

Thinking to test with a fresh install.

[Update]: I am also getting the same 404 on the main domain. :) Something is not right.

Currently, my forum is going crazy. I changed the URL to after logging to the admin panel and added "forum" in URL. But, after that, it is not allowing me to login.

So, now I have renamed the main dir through "file manager", and created and new dir with same name and restored from the backup, but don't know I still see URL redirecting to "forum".
I have created the cache, but still.

URL: http://mbathesis.in/

For now, I have removed the repair file.

Do you have pretty urls installed?

n/m I see it :P.  Do you have files and database backups from before you started?

Yes,  'pretty urls' is installed.

I took file backup, but DB backup is (I think) after I changed the URL settings[Not sure though].

But, I have an old backup up of DB.

Also, I am trying for FTP, this crazy HG hosting giving error even in FTP now, not able to login to new FTP account even after providing correct details.

HostGator :P?  Pretty Urls :P?  You're basically screwed if you can't restore the backups.

Ha ha.

Anyway, I can modify the DB to change the values?

Also, don't know why repair_settings.php is not working, else this could be fixed

i bet it is not working due to using pretty urls.

can you rename the .htaccess file in your main forum folder and see if repair_settings works after that?

I think he should try to restore the original install, uninstall pretty urls, clean up .htaccess and the database, then move the forum to subdir.

This is the first thing I did for troubleshooting, but it didn't work for me.

IIRC, pretty urls adds two tables to database.  The cache table can become enormous.  Cleaned up a trashed forum week or two ago, it had a 1.7GB cache table in what otherwise was a 60mb database.  Any attempt to install or uninstall a mod or upgrade resulted in wsod, had to import db backup to get it back up (several times).  Get your backups running, try uninstalling the mod, drop the tables, remove pretty urls code from .htaccess.  It doesn't uninstall cleanly, you have to do some of it manually.

This mod should have been removed from mod site years ago. >:(

I will try to copy files and DB to my other hosting and then will check it through local DNS value to see if it is working or not. "pretty urls" is quite messy.

Thanks for all the help.
