i recently noticed a problem with SMF
when you register in a SMF forum with any name
and later
if you delete your account but dont remove your posts
and later try and re-register with the same name
something really weird happens.....
this happened to me
when i tried reregistering
there was already a "Prasad007"(me) in that forum
but the account was deleted (by me)
but the posts remained
so on reregistering,
it gave me some awkward error message
which i unfortunately dont remember
but later
i tried logging in wid that username
and it worked
but my stats and post count was reset to ZERO
and i cud see my earlier posts
being shown as posted by a guest account with my username
my later posts however,
had proper stats
i guess i found a bug, huh?
oh well,
SMF still rox :)
heheh :D
-Prasad007.
well
can ne1 help me on this bug??
Sounds like SMF is working like it should. If a user is deleted, the posts remain but become guest postings. If you re-register, you don't get credit for those posts.

hmmm
but doesnt that sound weird?
i mean,
is that supposed to happen?
because
for example
in a high activity forum
it cud be sum1 else wid that username
I think that's exactly the expected behavior. When a user quits, all those posts remain and become "guest" posts. If someone else registers with the same username, they don't get assigned to the new user - they stay as "guest" posts.
oh okay then
not a bug i guess :)
I wouldn't say this is a bug either. If you have your account removed or deleted it yourself then I don't thnk you should get credit for posts you have actually attempted to remove in deleting your account.

I agree with kegobeer and redone that this is the expected, and in my opinion also the desired behaviour from the forum software. If an account has been deleted by mistake, you can use this method (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=13451.0) to assign the old posts to a new account.
That is how SMF works. When your account is deleted but posts remain, those post will belong to "guest" with the old email they had as a member. If you run this on phpMyAdmin
UPDATE smf_messages SET ID_MEMBER = *THEIR_ID_MEMBER_HERE* WHERE posterEmail = '*THEIR OLD EMAIL ADDRESS*'
What is phpMyAdmin? (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=21919.0)
That user should have ownership of those posts back.

You'd have to ask other forum software developers.
