SMF does not have threaded topics like that.

i dont think just a template change would really give the OP a true threaded view. you cant just reply to a specific reply and have the replies under it and have other replies not under it by template changes.

You can install a mod like Disqus (https://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=3211) and prohibit replies in topics. In this case, users can comment on the first message of the topic, even without registration on your forum.
Or, you can try to make/find a special theme with comment view for replies.
