Running 2.1 RC2 (vanilla, no mods). It just stopped working a couple days ago on the signup page. No errors in logs, keys are valid, no changes have been made to code or settings. It just fails with "invalid captcha value" when clicking submit now, even with a green checkbox.
google api having weirdness or Any ideas?
I have the same problem
Same problem here as well.
I just received frustrated calls from users trying to sign up. No matter how many tries, you always get "invalid reCaptcha".
Tried reading the Google reCaptcha group, but there are no signs there that there is a problem with the service as such:
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/recaptcha
Question: Is everyone updating the code from GitHub? Or are you running the same code that worked before?
I am trying to understand if this is tied to a recent code change or not.
I cannot reproduce this using current 2.1 code from GitHub.
What browsers are you using? Does changing browser change the behavior?
What version of 2.1 are you using? The RC2 download, or a more recent version from GitHub?
Google Chrome had an issue in the past, solved following these instructions:

Also if you are able to provide a website url that might help as well.

I have the last github installed two days ago
Thanks

We are running on the "old" 2.1 RC2, with no recent changes that we know of.
Registration issues with the incorrect recaptcha has happened the last few days according to reporters.
The error is the same using Chrome on Android phones, as well as on Chrome and Edge on Windows 10.
At least 4 different users has reported the same error.

Does it work if you remove the CAPTCHA? (The standard one with the letters)
For me works normally y I disable the reCaptcha in admin

OK so also git version have this problem.
Some one have reported it?
I can reproduce the problem even with the nightly (https://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=558451.0) build.
I have the same problem with reCaptcha! It dosen't work with lastest commit on github! I've disabled it!
Still the stats on https://www.google.com/recaptcha/admin/site seems to indicate everything is fine.
Google did not reply to my request on the uptime or changes to the service.
Bug is now reported, thanks to Mastum! https://github.com/SimpleMachines/SMF2.1/issues/6056
I'm having the same problem on mine.
A fix has been applied, can you test it again using the latest build?
Now is working again for me.
Thank you Suki
Still getting "ERROR for site owner: Invalid key type" here. Is V3 supported?
I suggest creating a new key and try again.
V3 is designed for other purposes, V2 is still and will remain active and suits our needs better.
V2 works perfectly. Thanks!

Where can I get this fix?
If it is applied internally and is active, recaptcha is still not working on my site.
You will need to grab the files from our github pag (https://github.com/SimpleMachines/SMF2.1/archive/release-2.1.zip)e and overwrite your installation with those. Keep in mind that 2.1 is still in RC state (https://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=570377.0) and we do not offer updates via the conventional methods.
Thank you. That fixed it
V2's up and working with 2.1!
... and yeah, Captcha being down is a plague on some forums, no matter what the engine is, there's always some admin who didn't get the notice of the version their board uses being phased out, leaving users with unavoidable error messages and incomplete registrations.
Thank you for the update
