Title: setting search box
Post by: goldenstudios on June 17, 2020, 11:08:29 AM
is it possible to have the forum search setting, that the words search in the search box go to search only in the subject of the posts =? and not in the description?
so as to have more precision in the search

What sort of topic titles are we talking about? There aren't many cases when you'd need to do this for better results.

I am interested that the research is only on the subject and not on the description (content) of the post

Yes, but I don't entirely believe that would actually yield better results. What kind of topics do you have on your site where that would actually legitimately be the best way to do things?

(I do many things as part of my day job. Improving search functionality on a site is one of them.)

these are posters so it would be better if the research went only on the subject as the title is made clear

I'd like to see some examples. Better possibilities may occur to me.

(As my work often proves, the customer is not always right, and very often when they say how a thing should be solved, they're almost always *wrong*.)

suppose that I have clear titles of posters, if the search finds me a word that will set an example "the house of time"
the search goes to find every single word even in the description of the posts would become confusing, if instead it looks for parts of the title in the search going to target only on the titles for me and my users it would be better to search

See, here was me thinking you were trying to hide the fact that you have a forum about sharing movie downloads.

Also, you're wrong, the search functionality in SMF wouldn't actually help you that much, because it would still match any topic that had any word in it...

I do not hide I am registered on the site, but I would like to go to my site / forum

however yes I would practically want the search to go only on the title and not on the description

Isn't this what the advanced search facility provides?

Or were you intendng that the single search form limits its results to the topic titles only maybe...
