Title: Unable to upload avatar
Post by: shadav on February 12, 2021, 04:27:42 PM
getting an error when trying to upload an avatar

The attachments upload directory is not writable. Your attachment or avatar cannot be saved.

I've checked the attachment folder exists and the custom avatar folder exists

i've run repair settings
i've tried
chmdo 755 775 and 777

still same error every time I try to upload

smf 2.0.18

any other suggestions?

Didn't you have an uploading issue with TP the other day? I'm wondering if the two are somehow related.
(I have no idea what the problem is offhand, since if the directory exists and is 777 it should work.)

that's a good point

different sites but same server

goes to check other sites if i'm able to upload avatars or not

other sites are working

only 1 other site is 2.0.18 but it was a fresh install, this was an upgrade...

These are usually permissions or wrong folder specified.

Not all hosts allow 755, try 644.

Double-check spelling, capitalization,  http vs https, special characters,  etc.

ug stupid....

there it was

the custom avatar folder was missing the full path

O:)

thank you

only after the oh I don't know 10th time of running repair settings did I realize it

was looking more closely to see if it was http and not https

it was just the foldername/sitename/public_html/UserAvatars
and not the whole thing
/home/hostingaccount/foldername/sitename/public_html/UserAvatars

thank you
