SMF Upgrade to 2.1 RC4 - Hung during 'Converting to UTF-8'
Hi Folks
Help please :-[
I successfully upgraded one of our websites
from 1.1.21 to 2.0.18
All bits I looked at worked ok.
I then attempted to upgrade from 2.0.18 to 2.1 RC4
The SMF Upgrade utility has hung at -
Step 6: Converting to UTF-8
Completed 14 out of 79 tables.
Current Table: "fc_connections"
Only one MOD had been applied, and had been disabled, (Custom Profile Field Mod).
Any suggestions please to aid completing the process.
Many thanks

That table is not a default smf table a.f.a.i.k. It must have been added/left over from a third party mod. You can either delete it if you are not using the mod that has added it, or convert it to utf-8 manually.
Looks like it (fc_connections) might have came from this mod https://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=139769.0 so you might ask over there how to remove it from the database if you don't already know how. ;)
My upgrade hung there too. I waited some time then took a look and everything was converted. So I refreshed the screen on the up grader and it moved on without any issues.

Hi Folks
Many thanks to you all.
Board now upgraded successfully.
The FlashChat must have been left over from a previous incarnation.
Manually converting those tables to the appropriate UTF-8 type
did not allow the upgrader to progress.
Renaming those tables by prefixing with NOT_SMF_FC_whatever
did allow the upgrader to progress and complete the process.
Sorry for not replying earlier, IRL got in the way.
Many thanks
