Good Morning Team,
I'm trying to understand where I might be going wrong with a fresh install, My forum had an issue which I created when looking to add a mod but I think it might have been the wrong mod for the SMF Version.
From this I tried to sorted but was not able to do so and as such completed a backup through the cpanel for the database side. I then removed SMF and the database.
Steps Taken since
1. Completed an install of V2.1.2 (Loving the new version here).
2. Tried to Restore my MySQL Database Backup - failed.
3. Searched for answers and read that the database from V2.0.19 would not work with V2.1.2
4. Removed the new version and installed V2.0.19 once again.
5. Tried a Restore of my MySQL Database Backup again - Nothing changed.
6. Took a peak at the database and it looks like the data is in the tables. (no database knowledge)
7. Searched once again to see a new topic is needed and here I am :)
I would love to use V2.1.2 but if not possible with a V2.0.19 database that's cool, however was hoping someone might be able to provide some suggestions and if I have provided enough information for assistance?

Database Back Up Dated 22/05/2022.
Standard Theme (Curve I think).
SMF V2.0.19 at point of back up.

What is the problem specifically? The difference in which mods are installed?
If you want to use 2.1, you'll need to upgrade your database. See https://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Upgrading for more information on that.

Thank you so much for the reply.
The problem is that after reinstalling the backup the boards have not change showing all the boards posts replies etc. The forum is how you would expect when setting up a new SMF.

OOoo Just had a thought.
Do also need to upload the old files and folder for my original SMF?
The data is all in the database.
It's hard to say for sure without looking at your specific settings, but I suspect that, when you restore, you are not actually restoring the data into the correct database....

What mod was that? For future reference, there is no need for a fresh install in this case. The best way to go about it is to solve the issue.

This is a fresh install. I think, as mentioned above, that you are not restoring the backup to the right database. You must restore it to the same database that you used to install the smf forum.
Found the problem 😎
Reviewing the repair_settings once again I noticed the prefix between the database and forum was different.
Corrected this and boom all the boards, posts, data etc are now linked.

Upgrade completed today and other than a few mods failing the new board looks to be operational :)

Huge fail, added the mods I was using, some were fine other failed upon uninstalling had many errors, and when reviewing the log it pointed to mods that were uninstalled and files removed but still cause errors right o the point it fell over :(
I've removed the files and not trying to redo the work, but one question now that the database has been upgraded I'm not able to return to the prior? Or can I reinstall the older version (2.0.19) with a newer BD?
You can't reinstall 2.0.19 with the updated database. SMF will complain that your database version doesn't match the file version (and even if you work around that, you'll likely run into other errors). What specific errors are you getting now?

I've tried a few things and feel I'm a bit lost now, the last inforamtion received is:
SMF file version (2.1.2) does not match SMF database version (2.0.17).
Run the SMF upgrader to fix this.
More information.
Prior to this, I had successfully (I think) upgraded the Database and had the forum showing as 2.1.2 the original errors came about when trying to install the original mods I had (I didn't have many) and with the couple that failed I uninstalled / removed and deleted files but was receiving loads of errors. and after trying to solve the whole board fell over.
I'm no where near smart enough with databases but have managed to get round them to a point.

It looks like you are using 2.1.x files on a 2.0.x. database. If you want to keep using Smf 2.0.x, you should overwrite your forum files with those from the 2.0.19 version. That's the strange bit. I did run that and my database shows the name backup_smf etc and it was all showing as I would expect. It only fell over after trying to add the mods I had.
The database was upgraded from where it went.
I'm not sure how to link them two together again.

The tables prefixed with backup_ are indeed made by the upgrader.

I highly doubt that installing mods will revert an upgrade. Regarding your mod installation errors, from your previous posts, most likely you were trying to install 2.0.x mods on a 2.1.x forum.

May I ask, if I delete the database, reinstall 2.0.19 files as a new install then install the 2.0.19 database backup would this bring things back to the 2.0.19 status with both files and dB?

You do not need to delete the database and forum files imo. But to answer your question, yes that would work. However, if you delete all the forum files and upload a fresh set instead of overwritting them, and you have had mods installed that have added their files in the sources folder, it can cause issues. Also all the attachments and custom avatars will be lost.
Ok back up n avail. Ended up doing a full reinstall and restore. Thanks all for your help.
This was the second attempt to update to 2.1,2 however was hoping I could asked someone else if the hey could do the update when ever ready.

You can post a request in the Help Wanted (not for support) (https://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?board=50.0) board for someone to upgrade your forum for you.
Going to mark this solved although it actually isn't. That will let other team members know no further assistance is required in this topic.
Do as Oldiesmann suggested. (The person I would recommend is currently on vacation but will be back soon. It wouldn't be free but his fee is EXTREMELY reasonable.) :)
