Title: Announce Topic
Post by: Dave J on June 25, 2022, 08:31:21 AM
I'm not sure what this is meant to do.

In saying that, I thought that under SMF2.0 it sent either a PM or email to those who where selected after the 'Post' button had been pressed.

I was under the impression that the same would happen with SMF2.1 but it seems it doesn't.

I have tried 3 different sites running 2.1 and none of the recipients get any form of notification, either as a PM or as an email or even as a pop up when they log in.
Steve - Support Specialist was included on the list of members from one of the sites. As I didn't see any notifications anywhere I then sent a Newsletter to everyone, so at least they got something to let them know the site might go down at some stage.

Has anyone else tried this?

I believe that it will send an email to all the members in the selected membergroup(s). The first post of the topic will be included inside of the email.

I will mention @Steve to bring this topic to his intention.

Personally I have not tried this on a 2.1.x forum.

Thanks @Doug Heffernan ... I didn't receive any email but with apologies I don't remember what forum I should have gotten that from Dave. I'm on so many that I lose track sometimes. If you can let me know which forum (here or PM) I can check whether I got anything there.

I did just send one on my forum and am awaiting responses.

And Doug is on that list it should have gone to.

Thanks guys. I'll await your verdicts.

I did have a good look around to see if there were any setting to change but couldn't find any

Check the mail queue?

Interesting. My mail queue is empty even though no one has received an email yet.

If the queue is empty that would tend to suggest that it's just broken.

The announcement function.

I can't say I'm surprised.

Actually, I've marked it unsolved until the Developers can take a look at this. :)

Fixed in 2.1.3.

There was a bug in which not all members received notifications.
