Title: Help with 2.0.19 to 2.1.2 upgrade
Post by: CurtisS on September 07, 2022, 12:13:12 PM
Hello all,
I seem to be stuck at a certain point in the upgrade process. Could this be permissions related? I have set the permissions level as recommended in the upgrade instructions. Maybe I missed a folder or file?
Here is a screen shot of where I stand right now.
Thanks.
Curtis

Seeing that it is not even displaying properly, I am going to assume not all of the required files were successfully uploaded to the server.

I suggest reuploading the large upgrade package and then try to rerun the upgrade. It wouldn't hurt to double check all of the file permissions aswell.

I agree with @TwitchisMental and second his advice.

Additionally, can you check the server error log and copy/paste here any messages logged in there pertaining to this?

Uploading and overwriting the files did the trick. THANKS!

However, now I am stuck in maintenance mode. I checked the Setting.PHP file and maintenance=0. Tried clearing cache and different browser with no difference. Any thoughts?

Okay. Got it! I was looking at the wrong Settings.php file. Maintenance was set to "2" on the correct file. Once that was changed and uploaded it is now working.
Thanks.

Awesome, glad you got the issues resolved.

Glad to hear that you upgraded your forum successfully.

It was not entirely successful on the first try. I realized too late that the attachments folder (from 2.0) needed to be in place BEFORE the upgrade. I had to restore 2.0.19 from a backup, get it working then try the upgrade again. I made sure I uploaded the attachments folder ahead of time and NOT overwrite it when uploading all of the 2.1 files. The upgrade instructions should probably mention this situation.
Thanks.

???

The 2.1.x upgrade does not overwrite the attachments directory... you must have downloaded the full install package instead of the upgrade package.

I downloaded the Large Upgrade package (smf_2-1-2_upgrade.zip) and followed the instructions as written to copy/overwrite all of the files to the forum directory. My mistake was to also copy and replace the Attachments folder.

See that's the thing that concerns me... although the upgrade has the attachments directory, the only things in there are index.php and .htaccess.  So, none of the actual attachments SHOULD have been overwritten/erased when you uploaded/extracted.

I think that this was my fault. My FTP app prompts me when replacing files and folders to which I answered Yes to both. I should have been more careful when uploading the files.
