I was going to install the SSL certificates today to enable https mode per my previous post. However, I just realized that I have two certificates and I am not sure which one to use. My set-up is as follows:
1) I have one server that is hosting my real website, which has https enabled already using its certificate.
2) I have a Linux server hosting the SMF. The SMF is setup as a sub-domain of my website. I have a certificate for this server too.
My guess is to use the website certificate for the SMF server as well, but I am not sure.
you need a certificate for either a) every subdomain or b) a root certificate for the domain and all subdomains.
If your subdomain is on a different physical server, then, yes, you probably need its own certificate

Thank you for the clarification. Yes, indeed they are separate servers: the SMF is a Linux server while my website runs on a Windows server.
