I upgraded our forum yesterday to version 2.1.2 (from 2.0.18) and most everything is working well. However, everyone's avatar has disappeared, and there is no field in the admin panel to allow users to add an avatar. The sections labelled standard fields, custom fields, and add profile fields do not have anything related to avatars. Am I missing something obvious? I tried searching here, the manual, etc and can find nothing.
Admin > Members > Permissions.
Make sure they have permissions to upload/put avatar.
As for the avatars, if the attachments are still in the path, make sure the path is correct running Repair Settings (https://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Repair_settings.php)
Upgrading from 2.0 to 2.1 moves uploaded avatars from /attachments to /custom_avatar. Sometimes this fails. If avatars are still in /attachments, you'll have to move them manually.
1. Members have permission to upload avatars.
2. The avatars were still in the attachments folder on the server, so I moved them to the custom_avatar folder. (There is also a folder called "avatar" with subfolders but we don't use any of those.
3. I ran repair_settings and got a lot of red ink but that has not resolved the issue. The "recommended values look the same as the values that are already there.
4. The path to the avatars does not appear to be correct,it is still pointed toward attachments, but apparently I cannot edit it in the settings.php file.
The error log on the forum shows this when looking for my avatar::

What should I try next?
Thank you for your help.
that is a known error that has been fixed for a coming version, it has no effect on anything. you can safely ignore it.
Illori, I took that to be an indication of the path to look for avatars being wrong.
So I will ignore the error message, but we still cannot see user avatars.

You can fix the paths manually in repair_settings. Custom Avatar URL and Custom Avatar Directory should point to /custom_avatar. But the fact that repair_settings can't find it could indicate you may have another problem, possibly the upgrade didn't complete correctly.
I read in another topic of yours that this still isn't resolved. Is that the case?
Steve, that is correct - I never did solve this problem.

Can you post a screenshot of the repair_settings.php page? Don't forget to blur/leave out the database details so they will not be displayed.
