Title: Error_log file size
Post by: Kestryll on June 19, 2024, 06:58:47 PM
The 'error_log' file for my forum is 11.1 Gb and over 80,000,000 lines.
Is this abnormal and can the contents be pruned? It goes back years and I'm pretty sure I don't need all of it but I like to be more than 'pretty sure' when deleting things.

Thanks!

Yes it can pruned! Please watch that file and see if it grows again

it is safe to delete it, the server should recreate it on the next error.

No, it's not normal, if that continues you need to see what errors are being logged, and speak to your host to see if they can determine the cause.  Good luck finding an app that will open an 11 gb file, but if you delete it and errors continue you can open it and view the errors before it gets too large.

As the OP was here after Sir O's answer without further input, marking this paused/abandoned.
