Its been a long time since i have been here and recently decided to start using an SMF forum that has been siting Stagnant(live) for years. It was one i started for my neighborhood and it just never got legs, until recently. Folks are sick of Next-door and FB groups and want a simplified it was at 2.0.1.8 and i was able to update it to 2.0.1.9 through the package manager.
There are a few extensive posts on the page that i would like to retain.
What is the best way to update to the latest version and keep those posts?
The only active package running is httpBL

Have a lok at this link on how to do a manual upgrade.
Upgrading SMF (https://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Upgrading)
For 2.0, 2.0.19 is the latest. If you wish to upgrade to 2.1, then you should follow the instructions for upgrading https://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Upgrading
A large upgrade will mean you lose customizations, including mods and themes, but actual content and user accounts are retained.

Thank you for that clarification i am unconcerned about mods and would just like basically refresh the entire forum while retaining the few post that are there and i would like to keep .
sounds like the large upgrade is the way to go.
Thank you

where do i find a comparison of differences between 2.0.0.19 and 2.1?
Well, this forum is on 2.1, and fairly unmodified, so you can compare this forum to your own.
Some of the more notable changes are mentioned in the release news https://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=580585.0 I don't think a full feature comparison exists though.

You can also install a 2.1.4. forum on a test folder/subdomain and compare it with your 2.0.19 forum.

Well, would you look at that. Our documentation team is on top of things
Will have to try and remember that, if I knew it existed I had simply forgotten :)
