vB have this feature where they post a link to say an Mp3, but members HAVE to reply to that thread in order for the hidden content to show / link to show.

Is this possible with smf?

Not currently, no. How about making a mod mequest?

Take a look at the Hide Tag mod. There are several of them.

It's very easy to install MODs in SMF. Download the package for the version you are using then go to Admin > Packages > Download Packages > Browse for the mod you downloaded and the package manager will install it for you. If anyone of them says failure do not install it unless its something with editing a theme file. It ends in *.template.php.
