I'm surprised that there is no support or mod for SFTP or SCP in package manager. I've looked through the forums and noticed several people interested in the same support. I administer a couple public servers, and will never run FTPd on these machines for security reasons. This completely removes the usefulness of package manager.
I assume the solution is to manually distribute the the package files, and modify the installed package list. How about an extension to package manager that allows for locally deposited package files to be absorded?
SFTP is a good idea but unfortunately not enough hosts use it otherwise it would certainly be built in or a mod.
I would assume the package manager also requires SFTP support in php (like I assume it has FTP).
I use SFTP and SCP but then again I have root access to my servers.
The majority of clients who use forum software are on a shared server and are unable to use SFTP or SCP.
Yeah I use too sftp and have no idea how to install a mod. The security patch was no problem, because I could simply replace the files in the smf folder. Is there a similar way to install mods?
i also use sftp
have you guys tried using the sftp:// address and changing the port and see if it would connect using sftp?
yes tried it, no, doesnt work
I use sftp too and would like to see sftp package manager.
At the moment sftp isn't supported. I'll mention it to the devs and see what they think about it.
Sorry.
Any progress on this one? I am another one who would like to use package manager for upgrades, but I don't like the idea of running ftpd on the server.
OO! 'allo, Fido!
