Title: Joomla User Manager with joomla-SMF Bridge
Post by: danyel on January 02, 2006, 12:43:01 PM
Running Joomla 1.0.4
smf_mambo3.1
SMF 1.0.5
http://www.batistaweb.com/joomla/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=42

I installed Joomla first and during that time set up my SuperAdministrator account as well as a few test accounts, all of which show up in Joomla>Administrator>User Manager.

Recently migrated a YaBB board to SMF and after insuring that went well, I installed the smf_mambo bridge.

Here's where I'm not sure if I'm describing things correctly, but:

There are SMF users that I'd like to give front end Joomla posting privliges to, such as the ability to add content in some  sections.

The only names that show up as manageable in Joomla administrator are the 4 registered prior to installing the bridge.

While sorting through the rough patches of installing the bridge, I found a help topic that said unpublish the Joomla login and publish the SMF bridged login component.

I feel like I've missed a step somewhere, like, in theory all 1000+ registered SMF users should start to show up on my Joomla Administrator >User Manager menu as they begin to trickle back and login.

Help please.

Also, related or unrelated. The Logout function (both in the wrapped forum and the Joomla .php page don't always work i.e. I can't always, reliably log out when I hit the buttons)

Thanks in advance.

Great looking site! :)

You may want to change the SMF cookie name.  That will force a logout for everyone, so they will need to use the form to login again, and be migrated over.

You should also know that if anyone is still using the stand alone forum, they won't be migrated over, because they are not using the bridge login.

That's usually related to your setting in SMF for subdomain independent cookies.  Try changing that, and see if it fixes the problem.

Thank you for the quick response!

You lost me on both of those suggestions, though.  I think I understand what you're saying about the cookies (probably explains why, just as unpredictably, Windows 'forgets' my login info after I've saved it)

Ok, only half as lost, I found the rename cookie option, do I just rename it to anything other than the name it has now?

This SMF instal is about 24 hours old, I didn't do any of the uncommenting in the bridge script or mess with the other options for 'stand alone mode' to my understanding, I've been running in wrapped (brief testing periods of 'unwrapped') since I fired it up.

Yeah.... No clue here. Where would I find this, and again, would I just set it to something other than what it currently says?

Should I reset both of the cookies to the same thing, even?

Yes, whatever you want.

In your SMF admin panel, Features and Options.  It will be a checkbox.  If it's checked, uncheck it, if it's not, then check it.  Make sure to click Save at the bottom of the page.

Done and done.

The cookie change did indeed  log me out, then I logged back in and checked the subdomain independent cookies.

Tried to log out after doing all that and still remained logged in. I'll retry the cookies reset/subdomain change again later  after a pc restart.

The other, issue getting users into a Joomla user menu, I *think* I understand what I did wrong. Because the website isn't live, everyone who's logged in has come in directly to the SMF page.  I guess I imagined a log-on from the SMF page would automatically translate into the Joomla admin menu.  So, once..... actually, I should do that cookie reset once the whole site goes live, shunting members towards the joomla login and thus, populating the admin user menu.

;) Ok, got it!

I'm done with this request unless I have more troubles logging out. Typed it all up in case someone comes along later with the same problem.

Thanks for the help!

Good!  Looks like you understand it all perfectly.  :D
