Title: [BETA] SMF 1.1 RC2 Converter - Including update for vB 3.5
Post by: Grudge on January 13, 2006, 05:29:56 PM
All,

For users running RC2 the old convert.php will cause an error at the end. I've attached a new convert.php file which you can use with the converters in this (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=38966.0) topic for RC2.

In addition I have attached a beta version of a vB 3.5 converter.

 I ran the  updated one - it gets to
  recalculating forum statistics - incomplete

the server remainds pegged with httpd and mysle process - the screen says it has paused to avoid overloading the server - press the button to continue.

The button shows a counter - 3,2,1,0 - and whether I press the continue button or not it seems stuck in infiinite loop.

Installed fresh rc2 smf. phpbb2 2.0.18

What should I do next?

thanks/

One more thing.

I stopped the install after waiting 15 mins.

Then I tried loggin in to the forum - and the it will not let me login - its sayd check your cookie settings.
Not sure what that means.

Update -
  1)  i deleted all cookies from SMF - now I can login.

   2) From maintenance I did update stats and repair
        Repair complained about subject not being in cache and offered to fix - which I did.

    It looks like things are ok now.

There is an infinite loop in converter it seems - I need some time to check if all is intact.

Thanks

Well depending on the size of your forum it will take a while to convert all that data.

Forum was converted fine - it was the stats that it was stuck on. After killing the convert - i logged into new  converted forum - and the maintenance stats update only took a few seconds.

As far as I can tell it has successfully converted.

Still going through all the pieces.

Updated info.

    I found the fields in the database. They are all in the table xx_themes

    theme_url
    images_url

    Fixing these took care of the page that previews/sets themes.

Thanks again ...

When I try to run convert.php I get:

Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_ENCAPSED_AND_WHITESPACE,
expecting T_STRING or T_VARIABLE or T_NUM_STRING in
/home/ldsxonl/public_html/SM/convert.php on line 1368

Any ideas on this one? I have moved to a new host (did a full recover from a full backup in cPanel) and my site was working fine. I am running phpBB 2.0.11 currently, I have done a fresh install of SMF 1.1 RC2 into directory SM and uploaded the convert and sql files into the SM directory. http://www.lds-online-forum.com/SM/convert.php (http://www.lds-online-forum.com/SM/convert.php)

After the convertion I plan on moving the SMF install to the root of the website and replacing phpBB. The SMF is running it's own separate database so that I can just delete the phpBB database once I confirm everything is ok.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Can you please try reuploading convert.php.  Try using another FTP client.
Title: Re: [BETA] SMF 1.1 RC2 Converter - Including update for vB 3.5
Post by: T313C0mun1s7 on March 16, 2006, 11:44:52 PM
Tried that. In fact, I tried reuploading and manually specifying ASCII, redownloading convert.php, waiting a day in case convert.php had a bug then redownloading, and uploading using both AbsoluteFTP and the hosting filemanager utility.

If I had shell access I would try downloading directly onto my host. But alas, they charge an extra $20 for shell access, and at that price I figure most things that would require the shell I can get support to do for free.

If someone could post a MD5 checksum of a known good version, (I downloaded it for the third time just this afternoon and that is the version I have) I could do a checksum to make sure it is correct.

Thank you again for your help.

Additional Info:

here is the code around that area as it is in the file residing on my host:

1357 if ($_GET['substep'] <= 10)
1358 {
1359 while (true)
1360 {
1361 $request = convert_query("
1362 SELECT ID_ATTACH, filename, attachmentType
1363 FROM {$to_prefix}attachments
1364 WHERE ID_THUMB = 0
1365 AND (RIGHT(filename, 4) IN ('.gif', '.jpg', '.png', '.bmp') OR RIGHT(filename, 5) = '.jpeg')
1366 AND width = 0
1367 AND height = 0
1368 LIMIT $_REQUEST['start'], 500");
1369 if (mysql_num_rows($request) == 0)
1370 break;
1371 while ($row = mysql_fetch_assoc($request))
1372 {
1373 if ($row['attachmentType'] == 1)
1374 $filename = $modSettings['custom_avatar_dir'] . '/' . $row['filename'];
1375 else
1376 $filename = getAttachmentFilename($row['filename'], $row['ID_ATTACH']);
1377 // Probably not one of the converted ones, then?
1378 if (!file_exists($filename))
1379 continue;
1380
1381 $size = @getimagesize($filename);
1382 if (!empty($size) && !empty($size[0]) && !empty($size[1]))
1383 convert_query("
1384 UPDATE {$to_prefix}attachments
1385 SET
1386 width = " . (int) $size[0] . ",
1387 height = " . (int) $size[1] . "
1388 WHERE ID_ATTACH = $row[ID_ATTACH]
1389 LIMIT 1");
1390 }

and I checked out the database in phpMyAdmin and see that the boards table contains one row with my first forum, but other tables don't seem to have much - ie. the members table only has the one admin user, the catagories table only contains "General Catagory" which is not one of mine, etc.

The new convert.php file seemed to work for my issue as well. At least so far, I don't have time to go through the conversion process right now, but I did get the first step screen rather than an error.

I will report back after I do the conversion.

I am back, here is how it went.

My databases were separate and had different users. I got an appropriate and easy to decipher error message. so I added the SMF database user to the phpBB database - no problem.

It did not convert my smilies - but we already knew that.
My ranks had custom graphics that did not get converted - but I think that has already come up too.
My membergroups were prefixed with phpBB, and I will have to clean that up. It did the same to bans.
Since I have the SMF membergroups and the phpBB membergroups I will have to go through and check all permissions - it looks like the imported membergroups have no permissions at all.

After I get this all sorted out and I am ready to delete the old board I want to move it to the root directory. I assume I can just move all the files to root and update the settings. If this blocks my access to the forum admin because it was moved, where do I manually make the changes? It is a config file, or in the database?

Thank you again for your help. I really like the default theme. I think as I build a theme so it looks like my old boards I might keep some elements of the current default theme.

Glad to hear most of it is up.  About the permissions I will let oldiesmann or someone take a look at it.  When you move your forum to the root use repair_settings.php to repair the paths and you should be good to go :)
What is repair_settings.php? (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=18096.0)
Title: Re: [BETA] SMF 1.1 RC2 Converter - Including update for vB 3.5
Post by: T313C0mun1s7 on March 17, 2006, 07:51:37 PM
Thank you for the information. Where can I find repair_settings.php?

I copied all my rank images to the correct directory and set the groups to use them. It was fairly easy. Now I just have to do a search and find out how to create a theme so I can start converting the look and feel back.

EDIT:

I just noticed that although users correct avatar is in their profile now and shows up next to their names, when editing the profile it is broke. When choosing a avatar the user sees the two deafult categories (which I don't want) and [Galery] which is the name of my custom avatar set. The problem is there are no picture available in my custom set. The link seems to work on the imported users, but not when editing the profiles. What is the difference here, and what do I need to do to fix it? Thank you once again.

Download repair_settings.php from here (http://simplemachines.org/download/?converters)

To edit your theme make a copy of the default theme and edit the template files.  Here is more info on theme editing.  Information on theme modification and creation (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=16843.0)

Well everything is fine except in minibb_posts table . I tried to find duplicate topic_id there and got this result

mysql> SELECT COUNT( * ) - COUNT( DISTINCT topic_id ) AS 'duplicateids' FROM minibb_posts ;
+--------------+
| duplicateids |
+--------------+
|        46215 |

Is that the problem ? if it is then how can I get rid of this ?

I am trying to convert from e107.  I open up the convert.php and all the info is correct and when I click continue I receive the following message:

Sorry, the database connection information used in the specified installation of SMF cannot access the installation of e107. This may either mean that the installation doesn't exist, or that the MySQL account used does not have permissions to access it.

The error MySQL gave was: SELECT command denied to user: 'thejedi_smf1@localhost' for table 'thejedi_user'

Thank you in advance for any and all help.  It's probably something really minor knowing me..lol.

make sure the the SMF user has access to the e107 database.  You can do this by creating or assining the same user to both databases.

ok ran into snag...

converting phpbb 2.0.18 to smf 1.1RC2

Path to SMF: /domain/smf

Path to phpBB2: /domain/forums

phpbb_ tables in same DB as smf_

I uploaded and tried convert.php and phpbb_to_smf from HERE (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=38966.0), this topic and the
downloads page with all giving the same error:

The installation of SMF in the path you specified is not a version this converter can deal with. If it is older than SMF 1.0, you need to upgrade first. If it is newer, you need to use a different converter.

so if anyone wants to post the correct phpBB to smf converter file for me to use, it would be great.
Thanks in advance. (ps I searched forums and didnt have any luck)

Well, for some reason, the script isn't willing to accept my pathways to my phpBB install. :(

I know the pathways are correct. Is there something I'm missing?

Error Message: Unable to find the settings for phpBB2. Please double check the path and try again.

Pathways:

SMF: /usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/domainname.tld/subdomains/smf/httpdocs

phpBB2: /usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/domainname.tld/subdomains/phpbb/httpdocs

It just doesn't make any sense.

Update: The solution to my problem is here (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=83329.0).

Hi, I try to convert my invision forum to smf and during the convert, I get this error:

QuoteConverting board permissions...
Notice: unserialize(): Error at offset 5 of 183 bytes in /home/theworld/public_html/smf/convert.php(653) : eval()'d code on line 89

Fatal error: Unsupported operand types in /home/theworld/public_html/smf/convert.php(653) : eval()'d code on line 89

Any Ideas?

I am getting the error
Sorry, the database connection information used in the specified installation of SMF cannot access the installation of MyBulletinBoard 1.0. This may either mean that the installation doesn't exist, or that the MySQL account used does not have permissions to access it.

The error MySQL gave was: SELECT command denied to user: '[address]' for table 'mybb_users'

I know why this is happening, it is because the SMF database can't contact the MyBB database, but Ihave no idea how to make it do so. They are installed in different databases, and GoDaddy doesn't have an option to connect the two that I have found. Anyone know how to fix this? I sent GoDaddy an email about it, but they won't reply for 5 hours.

What you should do is create another user with the same name and password for the mybb database.

I figured out the problem. GoDaddy sent me an email telling me that
QuoteThank you for contacting Customer Support. Unfortunately, we no longer allow SMF usage on our hosting accounts. I apologize for the inconvenience.

They encourage you to install PHPBB and they encourage you to install Mambo, but they won't let you install the one forum that allows you to integrates with Mambo. Does anyone know of any other forum software that integrates as nicely with Mambo, and will let you convert right from MyBB to that software? Because I don't.

Hmm thats interesting freehunter.  Thank you for bringing that to our attention.  I would greatly appreciate a confirmation from GoDaddy and an explanation for taking this course of action.  If anyone has access to them you can have them email info@simplemachines with their answer.

I would like to hold off on a reaction until we receive some type of response directly from them.

I expected to have to go through lots of configuring. I simply upload the the files and a couple seconds later I am reading my congratulations message.

Well, after 15 days of working smf, I didn't notice any "bad spots" on the smf convertion from ipb. The only thing that went wrong, and it doesn't seem to fix, is the fact that there are rubbish in old ipb post when there were quotes or smileys. Is this something that I have to cope with or it can be fixed?
Thanx in advance :)

FYI, in case anyone else is running with file extensions .html instead of .php. Below are the  errors you get if convert.php doesn't find config.php in the phpBB directory. To fix it I just copied config.html to config.php and convert was happy.

QuoteSorry, the database connection information used in the specified installation of SMF cannot access the installation of phpBB2. This may either mean that the installation doesn't exist, or that the MySQL account used does not have permissions to access it. The problem could be avoided if convert.php looked at phpBB's extensions.inc.

The error MySQL gave was: No Database Selected

QuoteNotice: Undefined variable: dbname in /home/mbiwebor/public_html/smf/convert.php(661) : eval()'d code on line 1

Hi to every here:
I'm very newbie with SMF. I have installed and working fine a vBulletin 3.5.4 version. Now I need to transfer my old post, threads and users from vB to SMF. I found this topic but here the creator not explain how use the converter. I know that's beta right now, and have a .sql backup before. So ... if any can help me I'll be grateful for that.

I need dowload some from this other topic: http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=38966.0 or I just only need the two files at the start?

The UseBB to SMF conversion was said to be a beta somewhere, so I just wanted to post a note saying that I had only one issue with a full working forum, and that was with the moderators.  I ended up deleting them entirely, which was no big deal with the forum.  Otherwise it worked great, thank you.

Did it delete their accounts or what?  Remember that there is Global Moderators and Moderators.  Moderators are board specific.

Ah, my bad..I shouldn't post that late in the morning. ;)  I kept getting an error during the conversion telling me there were duplicate board-specific moderators.  I tried deleting the entries by hand in the useBB table but they would reappear and I would get the same issue when I restarted the converter.  I eventually deleted the table and the converter was able to finish.  I went into the SMF ACP and added the board moderators afterwards.

I converted from IPB 2.1.2 to 1.1RC2, but I've hit three(+1) specific snags.

During conversion, I get a load of "Notice: Undefined index: 28 in /home/x/public_html/soapbox/convert.php(1627) : eval()'d code on line 11"-like errors (about 30 of them). And don't tell me to re-upload it, because I've done so many times, and the same thing happens again and again (and I even tried manually setting it to ASCII, and using a different FTP client).

It does continue on, however, with some small problems AFTER conversion.

1) I've got two forums that will NOT get a post total on the main page. I've run the maintenance "recount all" blah blah 3 times now, and nothing changes. I tried posting a new message to force SMF to recount it, but that also did nothing. 0 posts and 0 replies.

2) All my smileys are like the following:

[img src=\"style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/wink.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\";)\" border=\"0\" alt=\"wink.gif\" /]

While the converter says it's converted smileys succesfully. What gives?  :(

edit:

Another minor snag. All my polls are farked. But I assume that's because of snag 1.

Post by: Oldiesmann on May 23, 2006, 09:55:34 PM
I think the "undefined index" errors are poll-related. I tested the converter with data from an IPB 2.1.5 installation (I think), and the polls converted fine, but some people have reported issues with that, so I really don't know what the problem is there.

I also have not been able to get smileys working. I spent several weeks trying to get the correct syntax to match that stupid string, and I thought I finally had it. I guess not.

Hi guys,

I'm new here. I'm a phpbb user for some years and I am testing the SMF in two sites now. One was a fresh install and other was a convertion from phpbb 1.0.17

The convertion was very easy. During the process I received some error messages that I cant reproduce noe, because the showed very quickly and the script continued.
When I entered the SMF forum everything seemed to be ok. Only Member groups names and Post count based groups had a "phpbb" added to its names.
Attachment mod was converted sucessfuly too.

I'm still checking to see if all is ok, but I think it will be.

Just stoped here to tell my experience with the converter and to say I'm very, very satisfied with SMF during this little time of experience.
Sure I will need help.  ;D

Thanks,
Ricardo

Heya - DESPERATELY trying to convert to SMF here... have the 1.1 RC2 installed, but trying  to convert over from our (name).invisionzone.com forum set up, no matter HOW i enter the address the converter simply cannot find the settings file for Invision Power Board 2... how do i figure out what address this converter is looking for and what do I have to have in place for cross-server access? There was something about adding an SQL user to one of the servers or something?

Sorry if any of this seems horribly remidial, Im a photoshop and illustrator kind of guy, not really SQL and PHP savvy...

i just exported "ipb.gz" which is supposedly the SQL DB but i couldn't begin to tell you what im supposed to do with it.

I also have a backup from the ACP "ibf_dbbackup.sql.gz" that i can't figure out what it does.

I DO have the original board SQL host name, SQL database, SQL user and SQL pass if that helps me any as well... I also have a backup of the entirety of the subdomain, but don't have a clue where to point the converter...

HTML and CSS im good with, this is way over my head, thanks a ton for helping!!!!

Im sorry, but install IPB where? I just dont get what I need where for the converter to work...

Would it help any to post screenshots of the board im trying to convert with TLD noted?

I also noted in the converter that both DB's need to be installed in the same SQL something or other. That shouldn't be too difficult should it? Is there a step-by-step wakl through of this outside the "and that should do it" manual? I really feel bad for asking so many questions and not even knowing if im giving enough info...

Like I said before do you have access to phpmyadmin and also the ability to upload files in your current ipb host?

like you said SMF and IPB need to be in the same server unless your host allows remote connections.

Jay - OK gotcha!!

Yes, I dont think Im supposed to have CPanel access, but i do. I have PHPMyAdmin access on the IPB space through the MySQL DB panel, although I dont know what to do in there, I do have access to it, as well as on the SMF space.

I also have FTP access to both with no problems so far, and all the SQL users and passes for both the IPB space and SMF space.

Heya - I just need to make sure that using this information on the IPB server that I won't over write the existing boards SQL entry or database OR table... it looks right, but if somebody could look HERE (http://hangardeck5.com/SQL_setup.jpg) to let me know for sure, I realize more than likely that means Jay, in which case thank you again... Im just really nervous about accidentally trashing my existing board...

No the converter what it does is it copies the data over to SMF leaving the existing data the way it was.

And you guess right :P.

Is there anything I can do there?

In looking at all the stuff on the duplicate entry "####" on key 1 stuff all over, I've gone in and reounted all my posts, thinned my polls and all, on the IPB board, im going to try replacing the converters with what i THINK are the newest converters and conversion SQL sets...

Any idea how I can get around that duplication piece? should i be saving my error pages?

Thanks! X

You will need to go to the IPB database and delete the duplciate items.  There is a post in this topic on how to find items with duplicate keys.

Yeah. Then I've got a real problem here. I believe i found the post you were referring to, i even C&P'd the SQL query subbing in my own table name so it searched the right one, came up with almost the same number of entries as the board has in total, so I must not be doing something right.

I have no clue how to find these dupes, how to tell if they're dupes and delete only ONE of the dupes and not both... Where do i find this stuff out? This stuff isn't intuitive without knowing programming at all... am I pretty much out of luck or what?

ok ran into snag...

converting phpbb 2.0.18 to smf 1.1RC2

(ps I searched forums and didnt have any luck)

my problem is now resolved thanks to another member providing the correct converter files

Can you tell us where you got these files please??

Cheers

This converter is just for 1.1 RC2.  For 1.0.7 go to the Downloads page, under the Converters section.

xodiaq what table is it that it's saying that it has duplicate entries?

ibf_posts, I think.

Actually Jay, one of my board members put a duplication clause in the SQL conversion file and that seems to have done it, so it only uses the initial instance and ignores any dupicates. I couldnt tell you HOW she did it but it brought the entire board over in about 3 minutes flat, then the settings.php corrupted and wouldnt let us take the board out of maintenance mode.

*sigh*

Not quite sure, but i think somebody hates me somewhere...

I put BOTH required files in his folder (phpbb2_to_smf.php and convert.php) and I ran the converter. Its tells me I cant use that version of the converter. He has phpbb version 2.0.20 and smf version 1.1 RC 2

AM I running the wrong converter? Is there another one I should be aware of. I only saw one in the downloads list. If you can help, you can save my ex husband from being drawn and quartered...he,he..

I want to convert from MyBB 1.1 to SMF and I have some questions about the conversation...

What about the passwords? Should the users request new passowords or are the old passwords converted?
And what happens with avatars and smilies? Are they converted/transfered too?

So, I used the converter (both from Grudge, and the one from Jay), and I keep getting this in the forums...not sure if there's anything that can take care of this or not...

It looks something like this....

(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg144.imageshack.us%2Fimg144%2F4236%2Ferr4kb.jpg&hash=b7e8c1e7575da92b5c5630f6efd7f873720b2f96)

Where the "[img src=\ " starts and ends.  If it was just this post, it'd be one thing.  But other posts do about the same thing...like..with quotes.

Does it matter if I was using 2.1.6 on IPB?  I wasn't sure...

EVERYTHING else, though, is great.  Maybe someone can help me out, at least with what I can do to take out the messy looking code, if not converting it.

The one at the beginning of this thread:

http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=65677.0

With the convert.php that was linked there too.  The other convert.php had the problem with coverting the statistics and all....somehow left me with a blank forum when I double checked to see if it worked.  So, I was like..."Oh.  There's NEW files HERE."

I downloaded them, erased the stuff on the other board, just to be sure, and then converted again with the -new- one, and everything was successful, except for the smileys and the quotes.  Also noticed that some of the http:// links embedded in the code tags lost the "h" in "http".

That I'm not worried about.  If it weren't so many posts that were quoted, I wouldn't worry about the other either...but there are a LOT of quote tags, especially with mine.

I'm not much of a coder, but I think I could modify whatever it is that needs to be modified....or....if I used the wrong files (again!), then maybe you could point me in the right direction?

Bah...damn you, IPB!!!!!  CURSE YOU AND YOUR COMPLICATED EVILNESS!!!

.........anyway......umm..ok.  So, basically, we don't know exacty why it is, just that it is.  So, the best way to take care of it is to do it manually, or...just leave it as it is.

I mean, the "code" tags work.  They work beautifully...and..I kinda thought they were almost the same.  Then again, I'm not a coder...so...I wouldn't know, right?

Blah.  *LOL* Anyway...I'm getting another drink.   Maybe it'll come to me in a dream.  If it does, before you guys know, I'll message ya to tell you...but...I doubt it.  More than likely it'll be something that's SO simple that it wasn't though of yet.

Ok..well..I'll just check back and see if it gets fixed.  Everything else, though, works perfectly.  And that's awesome.

Thanks!!

The problem is that IPB parses the code and then inserts it to the database.  In SMF the BBC code is inserted to the database and parsed on the fly.

OK!  Here's how I fixed -my- problem...most of you should be able to fix it your way too, just in case you're having the same one I was.

It seems that when converting a forum from IPB to SMF (I'm not sure about the other forums), it parses the code differently, or something.

And, actually, I answered my own question with this...granted, it might not be the same fix, but it should help out with forums in my situation.

I had an idea ahead of time that I'd have to do some manual deletions through the database...and I figured out how to replace/delete strings of text, HOWEVER I couldn't do it with the quotes, like in this string:

[img src=\"style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/biggrin.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\":D\" border=\"0\" alt=\"biggrin.gif\" /]

It was really starting to bug me....and then I figured it out.  If I remove the quotes first, then I could remove the string that was left, and still keep my smileys where they're supposed to be.  So...I set up a query in mySQL:

update smf_messages set body = REPLACE(body, '"', '');

Basically, that removes all quotes in the given field, in this case the BODY (which is where the actual messages are kept).  On my forum, we're not using quotes - " , so it's no big deal.  After that was done, it left my problem string as:

[img src=\style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/biggrin.gif\ style=\vertical-align:middle\ emoid=\:D\ border=\0\ alt=\biggrin.gif\ /]

From here, I just took out the elements in parts of what I wanted to delete.  In this case, I wanted to keep the :D smiley, because that's what was in this message in the original forum.  SO.....the next query I ran was:

update smf_messages set body = REPLACE(body, '[img src=\\style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/biggrin.gif\\ style=\\vertical-align:middle\\ emoid=\\', '');

...and that got rid of the first part of the string.  So...what was left was:

:D\ border=\0\ alt=\biggrin.gif\ /]

Which is PARTIALLY right, because you can see the smiley up front now...but, it's got a hell of a tail, so I needed to go ahead and take out the rest of the string like before:

update smf_messages set body = REPLACE(body, '\\ border=\\0\\ alt=\\biggrin.gif\\ /]', '');

Which left me with:

:D

And...there we have it.  Of course, I had to do it with the other emoticons too, but it was MUCH easier than trying to weed through every message to get out that extra text.

Anyway, just thought I'd share!!!

Thanks!!

Title: Problem during conversion from PhpBB2 to SMF 1.1 RC2
Post by: Artimidor on July 19, 2006, 06:25:50 AM
Hmmm... I'm encountering a problem when trying to convert from PhpBB 2.0.10 to SMF 1.1 RC2. Actually I first imported the whole board into PhpBB coming from ezBoard (that seems to be the only way to make a proper conversion from ezBoard to SMF). This eventually worked, no major problem in general. I had to import some Forums twice, though, due to some glitches here and there. This results in a higher thread count obviously compared to the original board, because even though the threads were deleted, they still seem to count in the PhpBB statistics.

Anyway, now that I have everything in PhpBB2 I tried to move it to SMF with the SQL script offered here. I made a test run previously with 4 smaller Forums, that worked perfectly. Now I try to import again with the whole board and get the following message at the step "Converting Posts":

Converting posts (this may take some time)... Unsuccessful!
I get a long SQL listed and a statement "Caused the error: Duplicate entry '104674' for key 1"

Uhmmm... Any idea what I could do against that? Perhaps there are posts twice in the PhpBB board, which are now deactivated, but which the converter cannot deal with properly? Or something entirely else? Does the table/member reset not purge everything completely?

Any suggestions how to progress would be greatly appreciated!

[EDIT] After some researches I found out that it seems to be necessary to clear the PHPBB installation of double topics. However, I didn't find any SQL scripts, which would allow you to find those posts - and which rows from which tables you'd need to remove and how you do that best. Anything concrete somewhere to be found?

You will have to go to phpMyAdmin and manually delete those entries.  The converter will tell you the table that has the dup entries.

The converter only gives me a single line (see above), though it's different every time I try to initiate conversion. To which table and field does this mentioned number refer?

I see it refers to a post_id... Right? But I also saw that when I delete this one I actually delete a post of the Forum right away!  :-[

Yea each time it will be different.  It's a pain in the *** to delete dup keys.  Ihad to do a vB conversion and it had a mess of these.

What is the table with the dup?  The post table?

Well, I'm somewhat irritated, I have to admit.

Some corrections, more precise info on the issue:

What I saw is that the error message at the end of the SQL statements the converter is showing to me obviously tells us only about the first number which is a problem. There are all in all around 200 such statements on the page (it's a board with around 90.000 posts), looking like this (text altered for demonstration purposes):

Quote
('110400', '9864', '1026063840', '89', 'Member [email protected]', 'Re: Help? Help? Help! Yesssss!', 'Member Name', '0', '', '', 'Yeah. I have midterms not this coming week but the week after; I have so much I need to study. But it doesn\'t stop me from doing stuff here. <p><i><a href=http://www.xyz/test.html>...My signature...</a></i></p><i></i>', '48'),

So I would assume that the numbers on the top left of the SQL statements mean problems. The numbers are in more or less successing order (practically no "holes") from 110263 until 110461 BTW.

The insert statement on top look like this:

Quote
INSERT INTO `mydatabase`.dev_messages

(ID_MSG, ID_TOPIC, posterTime, ID_MEMBER, posterEmail, subject, posterName, smileysEnabled, modifiedTime, posterIP, body, ID_BOARD)

Now I thought you mean that I should delete all the numbers the SQL statements mention. Well, for testing purposes I took such a number, looked for the a text according to that number in the database, to see what I'd delete, e.g. post_id=110400 means that in the posts_text table I find the correct subject and text. Now I saw that the text subject is unique and not double, and by doing a SELECT like this with the subject I found:

QuoteSELECT *
FROM `phpbb_posts_text`
WHERE post_subject = 'Re: Answer to Question XYZ'
LIMIT 0 , 30

Only one row. The post only exists once in the whole board obviously.

Now I deleted the row from the phpbb_posts table, looking before the delete command and after the command at the actual PhpBB Forum display. One of the posts is then gone. Forever it seems. And with that I would partly destroy posts of my board if I continue on that way - is that correct, or have I made a mistake somewhere?

Hmmm... Or do you mean to keep the PhpBB database completely untouched and delete these appearing numbers in the SMF table called "dev_messages"? And then click on "Try again" after I've cleared all? Would the data then be imported correctly without loss?

Furthermore: Even if I delete posts from the PhpBB Board as seems to be suggested, there'd be much more than 200 posts to remove as I noticed - not all problematic numbers are listed at this one error messages page. If I delete entries from the PhpBB tables, new numbers are added once I try to import to SMF.

Keys are usually int fields.  So search for the id of the post.  110400 Like that one.

Have you read both my posts above, Jay? As your post doesn't seem to answer any of my questions... (Are you talking to me?)

A more precise question:

Doesn't the problem exist, because the SMF database isn't wiped completely clean of posts? Having only done the first steps of the import before hitting "Continue", I can still see the board being there with everything the converter has imported the last time (well, that is 3 Forums nearly).  The dev_messages table is still full - so I'm not surprised that the import fails if it tries to add the same data again. I did a test import last week already with 4 Forums, that worked, maybe the data is still there, only deactivated, and now the INSERT cannot succeed. Or am I completely off?

Would it help to clear all the tables manually? And which ones would be of relevance if that is an option? Any ideas?

Hi!

Is there any way that converter can actually convert scandic characters like ä and ö correctly?

I cannot really use conversion now, because it makes the forum unreadable (main language in my forum is finnish).  ;D

If there is some way i am eager to learn that.

Thanks in advance,
Henri

I ran the conversion mentioned in this thread and it pulled all of my forum names and users across, as well as their number of posts, etc.  Unfortunately it isn't pulling the posts across.  THe forums are all empty.  The converter spits out this:

QuoteConverting topics... Unsuccessful!
This query:

    INSERT INTO `knight_smftest`.smftest_topics

    (ID_TOPIC, isSticky, ID_FIRST_MSG, ID_LAST_MSG, ID_MEMBER_STARTED, ID_MEMBER_UPDATED, ID_BOARD, ID_POLL, locked, numReplies, numViews)

    VALUES ('1593', '0', '16293', '17968', '224', '587', '18', '', '0', '25', '1215'),

    ('1594', '0', '16307', '16616', '224', '122', '17', '', '0', '6', '200'),

    ('1595', '0', '16309', '16358', '370', '323', '17', '', '0', '2', '304'),

    ('1596', '0', '16315', '17219', '216', '506', '17', '', '0', '15', '321'),

    ('1597', '0', '16317', '16683', '737', '737', '17', '', '0', '7', '656'),

    ('1598', '0', '16346', '44031', '385', '202', '1', '', '0', '15', '709'),

    ('1599', '0', '16348', '17722', '385', '767', '17', '', '0', '39', '746'),

    ('1600', '0', '16349', '17040', '714', '560', '20', '', '0', '6', '326'),

    ('1601', '0', '16356', '16654', '216', '216', '17', '', '0', '2', '166'),

ad infinitum

Quote('2116', '0', '22775', '23944', '78', '216', '11', '', '0', '16', '356'),

    ('2117', '0', '22779', '23591', '426', '144', '17', '', '0', '16', '1107'),

    ('2118', '0', '22801', '22829', '7', '14', '6', '', '0', '3', '17'),

    ('2119', '0', '22802', '24439', '787', '96', '17', '', '0', '62', '2679');

Caused the error:

    Duplicate entry '1593' for key 1

Really talk down to me like I'm a complete noob to what I'm doing, cuz uh...I am.  What do I do with this?  Save me from phpbb guys...save me.  (By the way, I'm using phpbb 2.0.19 to RC 1.1 RC2)  Thanks!!

Also of note, while my users appear if I look at the stats, logging in isn't working.  When clicking on a user (to look at their stats for instance) I get : Please try again. If you come back to this error screen, report the error to an administrator.

Sorry, the database connection information used in the specified installation of SMF cannot access the
Quoteinstallation of vBulletin 3. This may either mean that the installation doesn't exist, or that the MySQL account used does not have permissions to access it.

The error MySQL gave was: Incorrect table name 'user'
that is the my problem ??? ???

Any idea when these updates are going to make it to the downloads page?

http://www.simplemachines.org/download/?converters

I ran into problems with the SQL file mentioned here (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=107868.0) and the endless loop on step 2 substep 10.

No need, I got the updated convert.php file from the thread in this forum and it corrected that issue. I just think a "broken" converter on the main dls page will deter some would be users of SMF that aren't saavy enough to come in here and find updated files.

Sorry I don't have time to read through all 13 pages of this but I don't believe this has been addressed:

When converting from e107 v0.7.5 the page counts of post appear to be screwed up:
Original: http://hazardaaclan.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?2339
SMF Conversion: http://hazardaaclan.com/smf/index.php?topic=2339.0

Obviously the page count is incorrect. If you could get this fixed many thanks!

I am trying to convert phpbb2 forum to SMF. More or less everiything went ok (i downloaded convert utility from site, and after dealign with some bugs i managed to end conversion). Then i found out that there is fixed version of convert utility on forum. I guess, someone should set fixxed version on official download site.

Well, i have one main problem. My phpbb forum worked using UTF-8. While installing SMF i specified that i want UTF-8. All messages are converted with UTF-8 sharacters messed out. All of the message writeen in cyrillic are unreadable now.

What can I do to fix this?

Thanks. In menatime I managed to do it on myself and without additional tools.

Trick was to install SMF without UTF-8 support, then convert phpBB2 to SMF and after that activate conversion using SMF Admin / Foum Maintenance / Convert HTML-entities to UTF-8 characters .

Everything went OK and all messages are readable now.

I found another bug in converfetrr for phpbb2. When personal messages are converted smf_pm_recipients filed lables is empty. Thus allpersonal messages are presented as belonging to nonexistant label. This field should by default have value of -1 so personal messages would be shown in Inbox.

I fixed this by simple SQL...

UPDATE osmf_pm_recipients SET labels = -1

.. but this should be foxed in covert.php.
