Title: MySpace Field
Post by: snork13 on January 29, 2006, 07:34:59 PM
Link to Mod (http://mods.simplemachines.org/index.php?mod=259)

This mod will add a MySpace Icon on the Posts screen once entered it in your profile.  Your MySpace profile name will also be displayed in your profile. Mod to allow the user NOT to have to enter "http://www.myspace.com/" as part of their MySpace Username, as that is entered automtically.

Tested on 1.1RC2

Example:
(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg485.imageshack.us%2Fimg485%2F5284%2Fmyspaceexample7yl.gif&hash=61a1049ea636699e8f87b22de3e1291fb2f14b58)

Thanks goes to [Unknown] for his tutorial & AwwLilMaggie (Gmail mod), and my board members for the idea!

Very useful mod.  I installed it on my forum.  Maybe for next version add the button to Memberlist.template.php :)

My installation failed when I tried to install on three different forums I have:

1. Execute Modification ./Themes/default/Profile.template.php Test successful
2. Execute Modification ./Themes/default/Display.template.php Test failed
3. Extract Tree ./Themes/default/images

These are the mods I currently have:

1. SMF 1.0.7 / 1.1 RC2 Update 1.0   [ Uninstall ] [ List Files ] [ Delete ]
2. SMF Arcade 1.3.0-MOD              [ Uninstall ] [ List Files ] [ Delete ]
3. TinyPortal 0.86                         [ Uninstall ] [ List Files ] [ Delete ]

What code should I be looking at for Display.template.php for my SMF 1.1 RC2-1 forums?

Thanks,

SMF 1.1 RC2 here and the mod didn't seem to have any actual functionality.

Sure, after installation, there was a text field in which to enter something for MySpace so I typed in just my folder (leaving out "http://www.myspace.com/" ) but when viewing my profile, it didn't actually become a URL even though the instructions suggested it would.

Also, there was no hint associated with the MySpace field. For the users' sakes, where it says:

MySpace: [_____________________]

It should probably read:

MySpace:  http://www.myspace.com/[____________________]

With the hint "This is your MySpace nickname." below MySpace: just as it does for AIM, ICQ, etc.

As others have suggested, a column should be added to the member list for something like this. Lastly, since ICQ, AIM, MSN, YIM are all about meeting or chatting with people, MySpace should probably be grouped in that "social interaction" category rather than with the user's own personal website (especially since MySpace isn't a part of one's own private website).

I'll keep an eye out here for a more complete version. It's a good idea, just needs some more work before it's of any utility.

I couldn't wait for the fix so I just installed this mod for the MySpace field in the user's profile - http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=79004.0

Thanks for the tip just the same, it's appreciated. :)

I have added several fields for members at my forum (including MySpace) using a technique similar to Skype and Ventrilo.  It shows up pretty much everywhere the MSN, ICQ, etc, icons are.  Still cool to see someone make a mod for it though.

I have completely changed the myspace mod, while nothings wrong with the old one...I just wanted to get the info into the database so I could appove more in the future. So in version 2.? I added myspace to the memberlist with sort option and added myspace to your buddy list. The user will still ONLY need to enter their myspace name in the space provided in their profile, and not the full url!

I added 2 sql files, one installs the column, and the other removes the column via the package manager.

I'm not completely done, I would like to get some feedback if your brave :P. File attached. As always I tested on a fresh mod free default forum...so if you have many mods installed you may have issues and you may need to install manually.

FOR 1.1RC2 only!

make sure to un-install the old version first and always make backups :-X

Worked fine for me, after I realized I had used the older version first (can you get them to delete that from the download page? *LOL*) and after I moved the graphic into my custom template folder.

Can you make one to make a field for YouTube users too?? I tried to modify this one to work to make another field for YouTube, but I didn't do it right and can't get it to work. Pretty please???? *LOL*

Thanks!

When I fixed that, I was hoping that the install would work... But it didn't... :(

the modification file is fine, the commented out stuff is also fine, will be part of the memberlist. however your error has to do with the load file. I suspect you have another mod installed that is conflicting with my mod. What other mods are you running?

can you verify that the myspace image is place in the themes' image folder? If not, check the default theme. If it's not there just ftp to the themes image folder.

Hey Snork...
I would love to get this mod working ( a lot of future members have myspace pages), I got the same error for load.php. All other files successful.

I have a few mods installed... :P

1. Global Headers Footers 1.1
2. Streaming 3 4.2.2a
3. nwsw.nwswAdminAttachAnything 1.1 RC3
4. SMF Arcade 1.2.4b
5. Google Member Map 0.55
6. EmailFlash 1.0
7. Custom Profile Field Mod 3.15
8. TinyPortal 0.97
9. Youtube Video Embed by Alan S 1.0
10. Youtube Profile Link Field by Alan S 1.0
11. MySpace Field 2.2   [ Apply Mod ] [ List Files ] [ Delete ]
12. Profile Music 1.0
13. Inline Attachments 1.0.3.1
14. Coppermine Userpics

Everything else works fine, I just haven't applied this mod because of the error...

Where would I put the modifications in the load.php or if you could point me in the right direction that would be super...(hopefully not too dumb of a question...)

Thanks

i would start over with a clean profile page. If you have other mods installed then remove the myspace code. get the files cleaned up and try again. I would make backups along the way as well.

as far as the txt you wish to change: you'll need to edit the txt strings, or add a custom string.

yes, using phpMyAdmin you will need to delete the myspace column in smf_members table. If the mod had been un-installed before the upgrade it would have deleted the column. In the next release, I'll add a check for the column's existance

it seems the langauge strings are missing. If your using the default theme, check the file below.

find:

$txt['MSN'] = 'MSN';

add after:

Thanks snork13. I do have a few other mods.   So is that a good rule to follow - that when receiving certain errors via the package manager, manual installation will prevent problems?

Yes, to a point. The errors normally come because the modification file can't find the code to change, this happens because another mod changed the default code, which all mods are written for default. You could apply the mod, but then finish the failed file manually. Be sure to make backups of your source and theme files before applying the mod. The myspace also alters the database, if you unzip the mod you will find all the answers, I hope. Feel free to ask for help if needed  :D

Welcome to smf :D Modification only install for the default theme. However, you can manually edit any theme to make a mod work. Check out this link.

something went wrong after I installed this mod and now in profiles email addresses are displayed but there is no email field to enter it or a header.

It looks like this now:

ICQ:
AIM:
MSN:
YIM:
MYSPACE:
[email protected]        <---- there is no field name for email and no way to edit email.
Website:

any ideas how to fix?

if can check the profile.template file. Is it just when entering data, or just when looking at the profile?

both, above is what you see when looking at profile.  The email address is in that exact position instead of having 'Email:'  before it.

When you go to the editing screen there is no option for editing the email at all :(

I just installed this mod manually, but I have a small problem.
My yahoo box moved by the myspace box in the profile, here is how it looks when editing profile
(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg285.imageshack.us%2Fimg285%2F4703%2Funtitled2oh4.png&hash=ac4d7e2289d849de196f9eb80dc2994d40e3ea5c)

and after the profile is edited

Please help me
I would also like to edit the text under MYSPACE but since there are so many MYSPACE words I had no clue which one it was.
anyone?

I figured it out :

okay in profile.template.php

you need to change :
Quote<td width="40%"><b>', $txt['MYSPACE'], ': </b><div class="smalltext">', $txt['MYSPACE'], '</div></td>
         <td><input type="text" name="MYSPACE" maxlength="32" size="24" value="', $context['member']['myspace']['name'], '" /></td>
                     </tr>

TO:
Quote<td width="40%"><b>', $txt['MYSPACE'], ': </b><div class="smalltext">', $txt['750'], '</div></td>
         <td><input type="text" name="MYSPACE" maxlength="32" size="24" value="', $context['member']['myspace']['name'], '" /></td>

Then in Profile.english.php

find:
Quote$txt[749] = 'The \'number of posts\' box can only contain digits.';

Immediately after put:
Quote$txt[750] = 'www.myspace.com/_________';

you can change "www.myspace.com/_______"  to whatever you want in the field there

you might add like fill in the blank or something

that has been bugging me since i installed this mod lol .. so there is the fix!

Error in Package Installation

At least one error was encountered during a test installation of this package. It is strongly recommended that you do not continue with installation unless you know what you are doing, and have made a backup very recently. This error may be caused by a conflict between the package you're trying to install and another package you have already installed, an error in the package, a package which requires another package that you don't have installed yet, or a package designed for another version of SMF.

I get that when i go to apply the mod...?

I'm on smf 1.1.1

// Messenger type information.
echo '
<tr>
<td colspan="2"><hr size="1" width="100%" class="hrcolor" /></td>
</tr><tr>
<td><b>'

<td>'
$context['member']['icq']['link_text'], '</td>
</tr><tr>
<td><b>'
$txt[603], ': </b></td>
<td>'
$context['member']['aim']['link_text'], '</td>
</tr><tr>
<td><b>'
$txt['MSN'], ': </b></td>
<td>'
$context['member']['msn']['link_text'], '</td>
</tr><tr>
<td><b>'
$txt[604], ': </b></td>
<td>'
$context['member']['yim']['link_text'], '</td></tr><tr><td><b>'$txt['MYSPACE'], ': </b></td><td>'$context['member']['myspace']['link_text'], '</td>
</tr><tr>
<td><b>'
$txt[69], ': </b></td>
<td>'
;

now that profile temp is okay what else do i need to change?

Help please.  I installed the myspace field and it worked fine.  I just moved my forum to another host, and now I'm getting error messages in my log:

8: Undefined index: myspace
File: /.../smf/Themes/BTW11/Display.template.php (eval?)
Line: 341

I uploaded the working Display.template.php from the old host up to the new host (yes I made sure overwrite was manual) and it is still showing the error.

Line 341 is:
', $message['member']['myspace']['link'], '<br />';

Where does the index get defined?

I have just been playing with these forums installing tons of mods and experimenting with them lol, and so far I love these forums the fact that you have to code the mods into each theme is still a pain for me (hopefully will be gone when 2.0 comes out!) but since it's pretty basic HTML it's easy for me lol, I used phpBB and editing the themes was a pain, I have also used smarty coding.. UGH! But anyways to the point lol, give me a link to your theme since I only use the default ;) and I will take a look at it for you.. I am bored and don't have anything better to do :P

Also with your permission snork I have a moded package that changes the
"MYSPACE" description
(https://www.simplemachines.org/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg285.imageshack.us%2Fimg285%2F4703%2Funtitled2oh4.png&hash=ac4d7e2289d849de196f9eb80dc2994d40e3ea5c)
SAMPLE PICTURE TAKEN FROM PREVIOUS POST

To show:
All you need to put here is the end of your MySpace address (ex: http://www.myspace.com/_________)

All I did was add a little piece of code into the install to locate the file and add in the extra info, and changed one piece of code in your original package.. I know I am new lol, but I got bored and didn't like how it didn't show a description :P if you would like just the edited install I can give that to you or just upload the package lol

Okay I'm having a minor issue here. I was able to get the MySpace icon to show up when viewing the memberlist and who's online, but it doesn't show up on the member's information in their posts like the MSN and AIM icons do.

I'm using a custom theme so I realize I'll have to do some manual editing, but I'm a total n00b so I just need to know exactly what I'm looking for in the XML document and where I need to put it.

in general most themes use the same setup as far as files go... so for MessageIndex.template.php you can probably just copy the default/MessageIndex.template.php file over to currenttheme/ and just replace the existing MessageIndex.template.php

I recommend renaming it to MessageIndex.template.php~ or .php2 something that way you will know it's the original.

You can do the same for other files as well such as default/languages/Modifications.english.php to currenttheme/languages/Modifications.english.php

If thats not the problem. You probably just need to add myspace.gif to currenttheme/images/bbc

Alright, I can see where it's added in the default display template, but when I check my custom theme, there's no display template listed...now, some of the modifications to the display are showing up...do I just copy the display template over to my custom theme's folder? Will that conflict with any of the custom theme's setup (colors, etc.)?
Title: Re: MySpace Field
Post by: SMdot™ on May 11, 2007, 11:54:43 AM
display.template.php shouldn't alter your sites colors since you have something called style.css

What I did when I first learned this little trick was I went to my current theme directory and looked at what files it used .... php files

Then I went to my default category and copied all similar files (if index.template.php in current theme then copy index.template.php from default theme) to my local harddrive.

I went back (oh this is by ftp by the way) to the current theme directory and renamed all the files I was going to "replace" (index.template.php~)

Then I copied the files, from default that I had saved on my harddrive, over to the current theme directory.

Hence if any problems occured all I had to do was delete the new index.template.php file and rename the index.template.php~ file back to index.template.php =P

in your theme folder, you will find another folder languages. In the languages folder you will find a file named index.english.php. You need to check if the txt string is defined. IF your missing it just add...

$txt['MYSPACE'] = 'MYSPACE';
$txt['myspaceInput'] = '(ex: http://www.myspace.com/_________)';

before the closing of the php.

I made the mistake of deleting my themes/sources. But i was able to back up the database. however i reinstalled the whole site and used the back up and i had myspace blank : section left. I input the code you mentioned in the themes index.english and myspace showed up.  Of course it cannot work without the mod right? so i tried installing the mod and i discovered the problem.
. Execute Modification ./Themes/default/Profile.template.php Test failed

the test is always failing, even before that it was told it installed properly and then i uninstalled only to be told the file doesn't uninstall properly and i think thats why i get things stucked.

I'm not sure about which files since i mention i've reinstalled SMF and i back it up and i write over it.

can you send me that file. it may be the code is there already. if you have no other mods installed, then you can uninstall all mods, download a fresh copy of the forum software, and upload the files in question. then re-apply any mod using a default fresh forum.

I'm not a coder but since if you read up you'd notice i have the same problem. The first time you installed the hack it is stuck in your load.php file i assume. Did you make a back up befoe you installed this mod?

@ snork13, I sent you an email and i keep getting that your mail box is full. I just want to know if there is some way to delete the myspace field since i've mention above its stuck even if the mod isn't installed.

ok , I had the myspace mod, and it was working correctly as was my other mods, until i installed and tried to use the Seo4SMF mod, which ultimately crashed my forum.

After having to overwrite all the SMF files, upon doing so i found the myspace mod stayed, not only that but it made 2 instances. It doesnt show up in my mod list in package manager, however, in the profile was 2 entries boxes, on the post-profile were two links/images for it.....

here's the problem, i have been able to find and bring the count of instances down to 1, in the profile field, and the post profiles, however, I havent been able to get it listed in the mod listing in package manager or I havent found where to find the string to remedy the problem in the following link*

in the $themedir/Who.template.php, find this. You should only have one.

',$member['myspace']['link'], '

you can also fix the package manager list by going into your package folder, find the file installed.list and add this line...

MySpace Field|^|myspace.zip|^|snork13:MySpace|^|2.4

save the file and upload over the old installed.list

be sure to make a backup of the files when editing manually.

Hi!

I got a problem with my memberlist.template ... I alter this php file manually by the way because this is the only file with test failed.I realised that there is a gray box situated at the right side of the alphabetical member search area on the memberlist page. It's because I do not know which colspan to alter and I've installed other mods as well .....

Attached is my Memberlist.template.php,Kindly advise which parameters should I alter to make sure that the gray box on the right side of the alphabetical member search(ABCDEFGHI...Z) is removed and the alphabetical search is shifted to extreme right.

Hello Snork13. Thank you for a great mod. I'm trying to follow your code to see how I can add a custom profile (the only other mod I'm using) field (company) to my memberslist as you have added myspace. I've been looking through the files that your mod modifies (all 13 of them), but I'm not sure how/where to add the information for the new 'company' field. Your expertise is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Edit:Okay, I had used this mod, and then when I upgraded it was no longer supported, so I just uninstalled it and didn't delete it. Eventually I found a different similar mod and installed it. That ended up causing 2 myspace fields in the profiles. So I uninstalled and deleted them both; and those two feilds are still there.

Is this coming to 1.1.7 soon ??

If not, how would i mod it to work as it worked fine on 1.1.4 but for some reason it does not any more even tho i modded it to work on 1.1.5 it worked also fine. I did something or switched them that it is not showing correct in the mail next to the persons profile inside the mail post or in the thread post like over there
<<--------

Its showing on the profile and the members list though on custom theme and default.

I switched to default and it shows correct there but not on my custom theme. Cargo. I made it work once but forgot what i did or manually changed / added. I must of changed or added something else and it messed this up. Not sure.

here is an attach of my display.template.php My section where it says
// This shows the popular messaging icons.

Never mind "some of the above".  But still, is a 1.1.7 version coming out soon or can we edit to make work with it totally ???

I unattached the file above as i think i got it. Or at least so far for the post body over there
<<-------

Do not really care if its in the messages or not i dont think.

I will post below the simple version of the changes i did to make sure it showed right over there
<<--------

If you noticed the code is different in this custom theme compared to the manual edits codes snork gave to add/change in the display.template.php ( and most likely more than just this one ) so this could help others also maybe. And again. This is 1.1.5 using it on for the time being per this post.

I will post again if i get the mail body icons to work and if i get it to work on a test 1.1.7

Will the update for the myspace field also work on 2.0.4 or is there a way to manually add the mod to work with 2.0.4?

Yes, it will.

I'm use SMF 1.1.8.
I like your MySpace Field and it installed fine.  I also installed it on a test site.
Then I looked for a Facebook profile mod and no one seems to have it.

I took your mod and modified the all the files to replace MySpace with Face Book.  Added the www.facebook.com/people to the url list and the mod worked!.   See attached Facebook.zip.  I understand databases and I used XMLWrench but I'm in no way considered a programmer.  I've only been using SMF since Dec 08.

But when I tried to load my facebook file while the myspace one was loaded, I received an error and vice versa.  So I attempted to combine them (see attached file facebookmyspace.zip) I still had errors on the apply section.

So, I don't want to take any credit for the mod.
I want to know if you combine it with your MySpace mod to provide both functions.

I can make a separate mod for facebook if needed, i really don't like to combine mods

Getting a couple errors after re-installing the mod after upgrading to 1.1.8

I tried the old version and same thing. Unfortunately i had to delete the other myspace mod as it did not even have an "apply" link. Plus at that time was having the issue with the package manager and could log in threw that way with FTP threw the package manager. So i had to delete the file with my FTP client instead.

anyways after that i just downloaded the new version of the mod and tryied it to install .. all tests passed but when click the finial install button it gives me this error. (and only allows me to have a "back" link to click)

Database Error

Duplicate column name 'MYSPACE'
File: BLAH SITE/forum/Packages/temp/myspace_settings_1_1_x.php
Line: 29

Any help or know what might be cause this now ??

Thanks

Yes, you need to delete the myspace column out of the member table using something like phpmyadmin, or you can run the _drop_setting_1_1_x.php file which runs if you uninstalled from the package manager. You should be able to ftp the drop_setting file to the forum root, then run it via browser, and then delete the file.

Doesn't install to SMF 2.0 RC1

Errors when applying mod are -

*     8.     Execute Modification     ./Themes/default/Profile.template.php     Test failed
      1.    Add After    ./Themes/default/Profile.template.php    Test failed
      2.    Replace    ./Themes/default/Profile.template.php    Test successful
      3.    Add Before    ./Themes/default/Profile.template.php    Test successful
      4.    Replace    ./Themes/default/Profile.template.php    Test failed
      5.    Add Before    ./Themes/default/Profile.template.php    Test successful

Everything else passes

Inspecting the RC1 Profile.template.php file, the relevant find line is very different to previous versions - it's changed from html tabling to html unordered list.

Look forward to updates on this for RC1

Meaning for the facebook one for the 1.1.8. ??
As i just noticed there was an update for the 1.1.8 myspace one. As if there wasnt yet i was going to try and mod this one for 1.1.8.. But not wanting to for facebook as like you said bout combining the two together not a good practice to do or try to do. but to keep them totally separate mods

All mods installed and applied are working. I plan on deleteing the ones that are not applied but havent yet as im having that issue with the package manager log in as many others are from the error from 1.1.7 and 1.1.8 where cant seems to log in or upload / delete threw the manager itself but...

Other then that all seem to work, I did have to Mod your older version to work with my theme Cargo tho for the icon to show up on the profile and in the forum post under the default pics along with the other icons.

But other then that, im not sure what you mean or what exactly your saying or asking.

Thxs for the reply and help so far :)

OK Snork.

I got it to work by changing a few things and also changing the myspace_settings_1_1_x.php so it didnt try to add the extra column in the DB and a couple other things but anyways... Got most all working except for the myspace link showing the profile pages itself. The icon shows in all the places it is suppose to, with no errors any where but can not get it to show on profile.

I manual edited the profile.template file for just a few lines was missing and the rest was still there but still can not get it. It shows on the profile edit page, but not on the profile home page itself.

Im getting frustrated with it and cant think straight on it now. Can you please look at it and see what may be the problem. ??

I will attach my profile.template.php here if you can look over it real fast. Thanks

Im running 1.1.8
