Title: [Theme] Terra Incognita (SMF 1.1 RC2)
Post by: jasidog on February 10, 2006, 07:25:39 PM
Hello :D This is as the title says only for SMF 1.1 RC2. It will not work correctly with earlier versions. Will not work with 1.0.6.

Terra is pretty heavily based off the code for Endar (http://jasidog.com/smf/104/endar) so there are many similarities. These are perhaps not obvious straight off though.

There's a PSD file included in the download to alter the header. For more detailed instructions and information read the readme file which is also included in the package.

It's reasonably likely this them will change some in future updates as I'm not really happy with it. Best place to check for those is at Terra Incognita's page (http://jasidog.com/smf/108/Terra-Incognita). Though obviously I'll keep this thread updated also.

You can see a demo here (http://smf.jasidog.com/index.php?action=forum;theme=7).

You have done an excellent job as usual! Not only is the design really unique, also the use of the div's and the css is great too :)

Yes, very impressive. :) You got a very unique style, like the subtle color-palette and use of shadows/gradients. Takes a bit to get used to the messageindex layout, but I assume its a way to escape using tables perhaps?.. ;)

Awesome work. :)

Thanks Bloc, much appreciated as I like a lot of your themes. :)

The message index, more of a way to be different than to facilitate a lack of tables. You can get a pretty good approximation of a standard layout without tables but, yes. This layout in question is very easy to make work. There's only one "column" of data and no need for clears because there's no floats etc. So it's a simple layout in many respects.

It came about through a announcement topic layout, used to differentiate those from normal topics and stickies. That I used once in another theme (http://jasidog.com/forums/index.php?s=&showforum=11). So not by design to be easy but it is that. :)

Very nice theme! Quite original and elegant. From first glance, one wouldn't think it was SMF. :)

Great theme! :)

Cracking stuff Angus :)

It really is a stunning theme, as always very polished looking; colours, layout, buttons and stuff. I especially like the post icons, no new posts etc. It's a stonker mate :D

Plus the best application of the <dt>'s I've ever seen :p

Hi LaBamba,

The graphic that's missing are you sure this effects the original theme? Because the image seems present in every install I make.

Regarding the track IP page, what browser are you using? I can't seem to replicate that n Opera, Firefox or IE 6.

Just a quick note to anyone that needs graphical help with the blue version of Terra, for anything graphic related with the blue version please contact Ivlasic (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?action=profile;u=30825).

You're welcome.

Yeah if there's a diplay issue like that it will be in both, the blue one is just a colour change.

Strange I can't replicate the issue though. I'm guessing it must be to do with the content on the page. Can you look at another members IP page and see if you get it with all members?

I dont know any, on the blue demo page i get the "too large" screen few times from help somewhere, then the load locked up on server there. Seems to be some graphic problems or bug? None other theme has done this same, so it is not IE6 fault in my mind?

Hi LaBamba! :)

This page will break for you I think?  - http://smf.jasidog.com/index.php?action=help;page=post

The table for the BBcode is too wide on that help page. I'll look into fixing that next release (I'd expect SMF 1.1 final some time soon.) as it's only IE in which it actually breaks the layout on that page.

As for the IP tracking page I don't know, I can't seem to get it to break but I'll have a closer look at the code tomorrow.

Here's Finnish language Graphics for you and your logo again since the text was incorrect last time. :D

Let me know if the Finnish buttons work ok or need fixing. Just upload the whole "finnish" folder and all the contents to - your-smf/Themes/Terra-Incognita/images/.

I'll just include the Finnish graphics in the main package next release.

----------------------

Updated those Finnish graphics due to the reply button being incorrect.

Cool, as I say I'll fix that one for the next release. :)

Trench, here's a file for making google ads appear after the first post in every thread. :) Obviously like the last one you'll need to add your personal details to the code. At around line 406.

On my test board it never showed an actual ad despite being the same code as the one in the board header. So  I guess there must be some conflict with the two on the page at the same time? Hopefully with your personal details added it will work fine.

Just upload them to - your-smf/Themes/Terra-Incognita/

Hey jasidog, are you planning on making any colour variations for this theme. It is the best theme I have seen on any forum software but neither the original or the blue coloured variations suit my forum, I was thinking of a theme based on fire colours such as orange, yellow, red!

I would not mind paying for it if available but that would have to be next month.

Keep up the good work guys, great theme, great author!

For anyone wanting to make translations of the English graphics (buttons) you can download Fireworks PNG files (http://jasidog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=779&st=60&p=39466&#entry39466) for that now.

There's also some instruction there.

I love this theme and thank you for taking the time to make it so we can enjoy it.

I just need some help in aligning the text to the left. I tried playing with the stylesheet, without much success, which is not surprising since I am not that good at it.

How can I do that? I find the centered layout a bit hard to follow and read.

Thank you!

Hi Lili. :)

I'm not sure it will really look how you want it however if you search for the following in the CSS -

.forums-topics dt {
border-top:1px solid #AD9C82;
padding :3px 54px 0px 54px;
margin:2px 0 0 0;
}
.forums-topics dd {
border-bottom:1px solid #AD9C82;
padding :0px 54px 3px 54px;
position:relative;
margin:0;
min-height:30px;
}

Change that section to this -

.forums-topics dt {
border-top: 1px solid #AD9C82;
padding: 3px 54px 0px 54px;
margin: 2px 0 0 0;
text-align: left;
}
.forums-topics dd {
border-bottom: 1px solid #AD9C82;
padding: 0px 54px 3px 54px;
position: relative;
margin: 0;
min-height: 30px;
text-align: left;
}

If you want the default themes memberlist style, then just delete Memberlist.template.php from the themes folder. And it will revert to using the default.

But I always back up the file into a folder just in case.

'Tis a nice theme.

Ah. Now that makes more sense. Did you try copying memberlist.template.php from this theme into the folder for your theme?

Sorry I've not been around.

Yeah, LilMaggie has got things pretty much correct. :) Though it is somewhat more complicated. The HTML/CSS is very differant to the default or other themes so you'll also need to poach some CSS.

There's actually quite a lot of CSS relevant to that page. In the theme it's repeated on many pages but for you it ill mean a lot for just the one page.

I'll get back to you with the main parts you'll need shortly.

As lil maggie suggested, make back up copies of your original files. I've not tested any of this out so it may not work correctly.

Memberlist.template.php
style.css

Replace the memberlist template file with the one from Terra Incognita.

Now if you open up the style.css file with a text editor (Or edit from the admin CP.) add the following to the bottom of the file.

.row1, .row1-center {
padding: 10px 4px 5px 4px;
background: #E2DBBF url(images/row.gif) repeat-x top;
}
.row1-center {
text-align: center;
}
.float-l {
float:left;
}
.float-r {
float:right;
}
.row1 dl,
.row2 dl {
border: 1px solid #AD9C82;
border-width:1px 0;
padding:0 0 1px 0;
}
.row1 dt,
.row2 dt {
background: none;
color: #553A00;
font-weight: bold;
letter-spacing: 0px;
padding: 4px;
font-size:100%;
border-top: 1px solid #AD9C82;
margin:1px 0 0 0;
}
.row1 dt a:link, .row1 dt a:visited,
.row2 dt a:link, .row2 dt a:visited {
color: #8C5A53;
text-decoration: none;
}
.row2 dt, .row2 dd {
clear:none;
}
.row1 dd,
.row2 dd {
padding: 4px;
background: none;
border-bottom: 1px solid #AD9C82;
}
.button,
.buttons a:link,
.buttons a:visited {
color: #553A00;
border: 3px double #AD9C82;
border-right-color: #7D6651;
border-bottom-color: #7D6651;
margin:0px 5px;
padding:2px 4px;
text-decoration:none;
white-space: nowrap;
background-color: #E2DBBF;
}
.button {
margin:0px 5px 0px 5px;
padding:0px 4px 0px 4px;
}

.button:active,
.buttons a:hover {
color: #333;
border: 3px double #AD9C82;
border-top-color: #7D6651;
border-left-color: #7D6651;
background-color: #DCD3B4;
}

Now things are still far from perfect. With what I've given you. The layout should work I think. However the style will be using colours and sizes and the like from the terra incognita theme. So you will need to edit the CSS I've given you to suit.

Also There are some sections unstyled. If you're adding this to the default RC2 theme or one like it. Then I'd recommend altering the new memberlist.template.php file. Giving some sections class selectors to match the theme your using.

Do something like the following. -

Search for every instance of -

class="border"

And replace with -

class="bordercolor"

Next search for every instance of -

class="title"

And replace it with -

class="catbg"

Next search for every instance of -

class="subtitle"

And replace those with -

class="catbg3"

Now search for every instance of -

class="block-foot"

And replace those with -

class="title-bg"

That should be you. Once you've edited the CSS I posted to make it fit with your theme. As I mentioned though I'm not certain this will work as I've not tested it. It is quite a lot of work though.

I absolutely love this theme; I'm using it for a demo fanfic forum (http://www.krysiasweb.net/JTLFF). (Just tweaked the logo banner a smidge.)

You do gorgeous work, and I hope you'll add more to your SMF themes section in the future!

Thank you for sharing it with us!  :D

One comment, that was brought to my attention by someone using IE 6 or whatever for Windoze (I use Safari and/or FireFox, and I didn't even know that there was text behind the banner):

Here is the screenshot she took. As you can see, there's a "J" and an "N" sticking out from behind the banner. How can I either remove this text or delete it?

Thank you! :)

Hmm sorry about that never foresaw that. Combination of a larger display of the font size in IE and a long title.

You could just make the font on the title smaller but to hide it look in the CSS file.

your-smf/Themes/terra-incognita/style.css

Alternatively you can edit it through the admin panel.

Look for this section -

#logo a {
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
display:block;
text-decoration: none;
height:108px;
position: relative;
text-align:center;
}

Replace it with this -

#logo a {
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
display:block;
text-decoration: none;
height:108px;
position: relative;
text-indent: -10000px
}

Should do the trick. :)

Glad to hear it. :)

Hopefully I'll remember in any future release to prevent that from being an issue again. :-[
