Title: Helios Multicolor
Post by: Bloc on March 08, 2006, 08:02:01 AM
Link to the theme (https://custom.simplemachines.org/index.php?theme=1)

Helios was one of my first SMF themes ever made, and is now updated to work with SMF 2.0. The original is kept as much as possible, even the markup follows that. But new icons, newer javascript code and support for Curve-based sections has been added.

Note that it does NOT use dropdown menus, neither in profile/PM/admin sections - where the sidebar is used instead.This was done to be true to the origin of the theme.

The "Link to the theme" isn`t working.

I think it should be http://themes.simplemachines.org/index.php?lemma=1

By the way, Great theme Bloc. First in the new theme-site!

Yeah he created that theme when we still doing the inital testing.  We did a wipe after that but kept Helios.  I'll fix it in a sec.

This theme rocks! It was so easy to install and flawless add of Google Adsense. I love it.

Hi guys, noob here. I am using the multi Helios theme and love it! The only thing I dislike is the fact that in all layouts I have the avatar and the "Hey, TolerancE, you have 2 messages, 0 are new.
Total time logged in: 11 hours and 32 minutes. Show unread posts since last visit.
Show new replies to your posts. "
at the top left near my banner. I would like to remove that and was wondering it there is anyone willing to assist me in doing so?

the board is located at...

http://www.theringsidevoice.com/smf/

Again, I'm a noob at this so everyone please bare with me as I learn. Thanks a million!

Like the poster before i'm also a n00b in SMF.
Just installed this theme and damm there must be 1 hell of a new theme to beat this 1.

Ok to the point.

In the dmoe there is a nice side bar integrated in to the forum.
Now i like to add this also to my new forum.
Any guide on how to do this?

The demo-site use a portal mod that will expand the forum - with sidebars like that. So what you see is the portal version of the theme, which is identical, except for a call to the "bars".

Hi,

I just upgraded my 1.0.7 installation to 1.1 rc2.  After I did this the "new" icon doesn't work anymore on any theme except the default smf.  Instead of the "new" taking me to the most recent unread message it just opens the first message, as if I had clicked on the thread name.  I mainly use Helios on my forum, if that helps.  Is there some code that I'm missing somewhere?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Kurt

(edit: I didn't post this here, a moderator moved it onto this thread.  I guess they thought it was more appropriate. Sorry)

Yeah, I have done a bunch of customizing on the verison I already have installed, so I was hoping there was another way.

I guess if no one has any other suggestions I'll do that.

Thanks,
Kurt

Edit:
I just looked at the downloads, I have the most up-to-date helio_multi installed.  That's not it.

Actually I just tried re-installing Helios_multi for 1.1 rc2 and the "new" function doesn't work still.  Any ideas?

Nevermind, I found it.

The problem was in MessageIndex.template.php

Search for ".from" change it to ".msg".  Problem solved.

SMF Version: SMF 1.1 RC2
1.
I'm using helios multi11 rc2 theme.  When I try to change the color of the theme to "blue", it reverts back to default.  I installed it using the one-click-install on Theme Administration.  I have tried reloading it, with no avail.  Any ideas?

2.
Are there subforum abilities with SM?  If no, is there a mod out there for it?

Thanks much!

eurojax

1. I am not sure why..normally this works as it should. Is your 1.1RC2 very old btw?

2. Yes, when editing boards, set the order as "under" to be a childboard of another board.

How do I get themes installed without having to spend hours copying files over from my computer to my host?

Use admin / themes and settings / install new theme / browse - get the theme zip file and press install.

I need some help (i don' t know if here is the correct forum, if isn' t please move my topic!)... I' m using Bloc' s theme Helios_multiclor for SMF 1.1rc2. I want to have THIS (http://www.halosclans.com/nav.htm) navigation bar as a border.

The navigation bar contains a bit of Java script.

I go to admin panel->current theme and I copy and I paste the navigation' s bar code to the ''topbar'' field, but nothing happens   :(

Here is the code of http://halosclans.com/nav.htm:

I've installed the helios_multi11rc2 and have it customized the way I want it for my site but have not been able to see where I can delete the "SMF Just Installed" customize that section for my site's forum.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I don't have an intergrated chat mod installed, using Flash Chat, how would I change the code to where the chat button will work?  Using SMF 1.07. with Helios multi.

TIA!

Thanks for the reply Bloc.
I dont get any error messages so I believe its working fine.
When I try other themes I can cut and paste text in forum posts just fine so I thought you had disabled it in your theme ?

no, its of course the same. A theme can'turn those things off at all afaik.

But when you mean you can't copy..do you mean not being to mark things?

does anyone have problems with some of the admin functions not working ?

Check you have the correct version of Helios theme installed. There will be errors on using Helios Multi1.1RC2 on a SMF1.0.7 for example.

No, Helios does not modify PersonalMessage.template at all..rather use the one from default theme. If you are having trouble with that, check that default theme has the same trouble too.

I really like this theme a lot and I want to continue to use it but it seems to be causing some problems for my users. I have the option to show whos browsing the boards on. When a lot of people are viewing it wraps to another line for me and others but there are a few where the users will stay on one line and stretch the forum so you have to scroll from side to side. Any idea why this would happen for some and not for others. It only happens with this particular theme.

Got a link to show this?

Hi Bloc

Thanks for your awesome theme!

Sorry to bother you but maybe you find a second to help me/us? I would like the same like "nitto1320i". I would like to remove the top bar because it's already showed in the sidebar. How can we do that? Is it maybe possible to activate the "upshrink" button by default?

Title: Re: Helios (updated for SMF2.0 RC4)
Post by: bloc on November 16, 2006, 01:20:59 PM
The absolute quickest way is to locate this code in helios index.template.php:

echo '<div id="upshrinkHeader"', empty($options['collapse_header']) ? '' : ' style="display: none;"', '>
..and replace with:
echo '<div style="display: none;"', '>

That would hide permanent whats normaly hidden by upshrink.

I have started conversion of some of my themes for Joomla that should look good in both wrapped and unwrapped format + a theme just for Joomla to go along, although not essential.

This is result of helis

But you probably knew it would have some kind of affect like that as its not designed for wrapping.

Tho someone else who uses same theme as me injoomla got it to work for them

(http://www.ausclan.com/IPBImages/helisample.JPG)

Forums have all jumped out of the wrapper..

and the top menu is transparent which would be nice is there is a version that isnt trasparent as it looks wrong to me... but thats just my opinion.

The helis themes are nice and the colour variation is brilliant.

If you take or listen to requests then I suggest

Have some of the helis forum colours be similar or same as enterprise.. im talking about categories/post view to match the gren/blue in helis.
It would look great I find the brownish tan colour just doesnt suit the blue/green borders etc.
And have the welcome panel in same tone colours to match

What I havent seen yet in any SMF themes is a divider between forum replies in Topics. I think that would be cool, so it looks more separaeted from someone elses post.

It seems to common to use 2 colour tone variations to separate posts but a border between them would be much nicer.. even for the avatar area in my view.

You have much talent broc, have you ever looked at any IPB skins ? for what I mean for borders between post view and how to dress up the avatar area... inpost view.

They are all plain and untouched...

This is just an example of my IPB skin, its designed more for bf2 game... but you see what I mean by avatar area and divider between posts ?

Hey, to delete those borders in the image (the black ones) i just need to change the image, save it to .PNG or any other format that can have transparency and upload it? ohh, and change the index.template.php file to change the format of the images there...
is that all or i need to do something else?

Thanks ^^

Been using this theme for a while on my site and I love it but I just upgraded to SMF 1.1 and I have a few bugs. Some are simple gif files that are missing but the main bug is I can no longer add or edit an avatar. There is no box for uploading or anything related to the avatar section. All the old avatars still show up in the member profiles but there is no way for a new user or me as admin to load a avatar to a profile. Got any ideas????

Okay a couple of issues with the theme, it seems to have shrunk some of the lines.

At the bottam of a thread all the buttons use to sit on 1 line it now flows over.  I get the same with the hi Lupus you have x msgs x are new, now on 2 lines...

http://www.conf-federation.org.uk/Board/index.php?topic=7636.msg107984#new

Any help to get this back would be good...

Also is there a way to make the name at the top of the forum bigger with out impacting any other part of the forum??

How do you control what turns up in the news type area???

Also have a smiley thats not working... (Worked this out the theme has the wrong spelling... ;D)

Great theme though, was using Helios before and this is so much better...

Will this awesome theme, work with the SMF 1.1 Final ? (using the 1.1 RC3 download)
Or will there be an updated version for 1.1 final to download? (i didn't find a version for 1.1 final)

I would like to know before i upgrade from 1.09 to 1.1

You are using the wrong Helios version. Looking at the paths for images in Helios, it reveals that you used the helios_multi11rc3 zip rather than the helios_multi.zip - which is for 1.0.9. When you do that, that specific problem with missing icons appear.

It contains a Settings.french.php and the images with the correct home.gif ("accueil" replace "accuiel" ;))
It works fine.

No, the forum-logo-image option isn't used in this theme. You rather have the htmlbox on top for any images + html code.

It will work fine with 1.1.1, as that version hasn't any theme changes from 1.1 Final.

Not sure when it started happening, but my board has some issues when using helios.  On every screen except actually reading the thread, there is a border around each board name/description.  When looking at an actual thread, the border is gone.  Thoughts?

Almost forgot, using SMF 1.1.1 with helio multi 1.1 final.

Helios is not really made to use that "showing members" feature, as the layout isn't working its best when stretched out.

I would suggest just turning off that for the moment, or use the "show numbers only" option.

On top of that, IE might also show it a bit differently.

ok, i found the way to fix this... actually my hosting was enable Safe Mode for PHP. that y the image cant be load and some directory cant be access.

so, i just upload the themes into the Themes directory over FTP and install the themes using path to themes directory (not using package installer). and all the problem fixed...

anyway, is anyone can explain to me what is the purpose to enable the Safe Mode of PHP?

i posted this in another thread and was referred here. i am using the helios 11rc2 version with smf 1.1.2.  everything was great but now that i've installed integrated chat, i'm having some problems.

i need help repairing the index.template.php file because whenever i click to collapse the upper heading, everything disappears except for the message/image i have at the top of the page.i made the theme changes from the .xml file and everything else looks good except whatever's going on with the collapsable header and the news items aren't showing either, now that i think about it.  some of the coding in the .xml file was not in the helios theme template, so when i was supposed to "add" code "before" a string, if the string wasn't in the helios file, i added what was in the default plus the new string from the .xml file.  something's out of sync now and i don't know what it is.

you can view the file here:  http://www.bhonline.org/forums/Themes/helios11rc2/view%20index%20template

there also is no "chat" button but i saw a link earlier in this thread for creating buttons, so i'll check that out.

thanks for any help!

Can anyone help me with this ?

you can do this with some editing in the file index.template.php...
just scroll down and seek the code for [Home],[Search],[Help], etc... button... let say u copy the code for showing calendar button, the code migh look like this:
// The [calendar]!
        if ($context['allow_calendar'])
                echo '<td><a href="', $scripturl, '?action=calendar">', ($settings['use_image_buttons'] ? '<img src="' . $settings['images_url'] . '/' . $context['user']['language'] . '/mod/calendar.gif" alt="' . $txt['calendar24'] . '" style="margin: 0px 0;" border="0" />' : $txt['calendar24']), '</a></td>';

paste the code at where you want the button to be (in the middle of what button, let say in the middle of HELP and SEARCH button or before logout button... you decide it.) then just replace the scripturl (in this case, replace "?action=calendar" (without quote) with the action you want. in this case, i never try with any url/link. just action with internal mod such as gallery, arcade, etc...

then change the "/mod/calendar.gif" with the path of your image button. uh... by the way, look at the second line "allow_calendar". i recently change this to refer to my command, let say arcade, etc.. but you might ignore this.

ok, u can try this... but better u ask Bloc for more and accurate info as this themes is designed by Bloc... hehehe... i just give an idea base on my experience....

ps: i'm not using the additional 4 option for button in the Themes Option.

okay.  forget all of my previous questions - i created a chat button and have it installed.  i installed the 1.1 final version and manually added all the other files to the languages folder, so that fixed a bunch of problems i was having.

now, i'd like to know how/where to change my forum greeting from "hey ____" you have x messages, etc.  i'd like to change it to something more welcoming than "hey."

thanks.

Good Morning everyone, I love this theme. I've added the buttons I need, and I only have one more thing I need to fix. After I installed this theme, TinyPortal no longer seemed to be working, is there way I can fix this, or can someone point me in the right direction? I've seen several sites that are using Helios Theme and TinyPortal (or something similar) so I hope it's an easy fix.

I'm sorta a n00b with this, but I'm in the process of learning basic CSS and PHP. Thanks everyone!

I have one question

Is  it possible to do some modifications for some mods which exist and which are very popular – I spent lots of time trying to make some mods working with this theme, but without success. People which work those modes don't know exactly how this theme was created and maybe it is logically better to creator of this theme spend some time making tutorial how to adjust those modifications and make it functional under Helios multicolour theme. – suggestions how to do and what – Simply much of those modifications refer to something which simple can not be find in php code :( which means it is unusable for lots of us.

This is just suggestion

I write this with regards to job you people doing here, and I surely understand what volunteer work means – I am one of those. I surely will not suggest anything which I personally will not accept

Hmmmm I like so many before me are stepping up to ask the age old question of how the heck to add new menu items across the menu bar. (ie. HOME HELP SEARCH.... etc). I have tried using the additional lines in the Current Theme Admin tab.  My problem seems to be that if I add a link to an image in the first blank line and then add the URL to what I am wanting to link too in the second line I get the following:

1) Firefox won't even show that there is anything or should be anything on the same line with the HOME HELP SEARCH ...
Basically no change to the screen at all. I have tried to do complete Firefox refreshes with no changes.

2) IE will show that something is there and will go to the URL link once clicked but will not show the image that it should. What it basically shows is a box with an "X" inside. A functional box with an X but not a very pretty one.

Attempt at showing how the button is configured:

Jessica – I have add two buttons without a problem

1.   You must copy you image and put it under your theme – and not only that – put it under colour you use – not to forget that – maybe there is reason for not showing your image on many bar.
2.   Make print screen of your settings for those buttons and post it here- maybe we will see some problems which you didn't mention.

For now that's all

Thank you very much for responding SpelingMistakes. I think I should have your name as it fits me as well.

So anyhow, you know how sometimes just getting things out in the open sometime lends to new ideas that you hadn't had before.  Well I figured out my delema of showing the image. I had tried using the full URL path to the image, NO LUCK! I tried using the OS path to the image, NO LUCK. But if you use the relative path from your gallery directory to the image it works. So my next issue with this button is that is shows up all the time, weather your a member or not. Oh well yet another things to pull my hair out over for a week or so.

Thanks again for your quick responce.

You have very obvious selection which is - Show for members only? That is just below third button  - I have on my mind to tell you that path must be without any path - that is just name of your image - but i just want to see where you made mistake - Ok you figure it by yourself which is great -

I have a question about banners. With Helios the width of the banner determines the width of the forum, which means the theme isn't tolerant of different screen resolutions. Basically it forces a scroll bar if you set it for 1280 and some members have 1024.

How would I go about altering the coding so that banner overflow was simply hidden?

Title: Re: Helios (updated for SMF2.0 RC4)

Try enclosing the banner in a div. Like this:

<div style="overflow: hidden;"><img src="xxxx" alt="" /></div>

Hmmm. Works in Firefox, but IE simply will not read html in the top bar and insists on displaying the full image with forced scroll bar.

To work in all browsers it looks like it'll have to be done via the css file (and possibly the php as well).

Any tips on that?

ETA: Found a solution to this. Read the last page of this thread (http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?topic=21888.0) if you want to know how it's done.

Hi

I have one interesting question

I am interested is it possible to fix height for news window

Maybe I will put there one small sentence, maybe I put little more of text, but when window refresh all forum below move up and down (like a scroll) and that can be little frustrating

When I put there some pictures it works good, but same problem

I need to fix height – I will use 200 pix or points - of that news window

Where I can find code for adjusting that. I want that news window bee same all time beside what I have in news – one sentence, more than one sentence or picture – even only one point – I need to be fixed height.

Open up BoardIndex.template.php and find this code:

<div id="smfFadeScroller" style="width: 90%; padding: 2px;"><b>', $context['news_lines'][0], '</b></div>

Change to:
<div id="smfFadeScroller" style="height: 60px; width: 90%; padding: 2px;"><b>', $context['news_lines'][0], '</b></div>

Note that it won't be centered in height doing this, but at least the height is fixed.

well..does it? :) I would think not, as "valign" only works on tables...but I haven't tried. You could of course surround the thing by a table, then it would be like this:

<table cellpadding="5" width="100%" height="100"><tr><td align="center"><div id="smfFadeScroller" style= "width: 90%; padding: 2px;"><b>', $context['news_lines'][0], '</b></div></td></tr></table>

Again me – Bloc

I need info – in what time you will finish this theme for smf 2 and above. This SMF 2.0 Beta 3.1 Public is quite stable – and I am thinking to go for it – Because my forum use your theme around two years and more, I simply waiting that you finish upgrade of theme. Do you know when that will be? Is that depends from development team because they have something to change which can influence on theme or that is simply your decision.

I don't have to much packages and I can live without them, but features which offers SMF 2.0 Beta 3.1 are good and I think it is worth updating to that version – I have both smf 1.1.5 and 2.0 Beta 3.1 in production environment and both works very well – I just waiting your Helios multicolor for update of that first forum.

Any info about how much time you need to transfer it on smf 2.0 Beta 3.1 and make it usable for future upgrades?

Hello everyone,

Great theme.  Everything seems to be working great so far.

Got some questions tho...

I got the button generator and redid the main buttons to show a larger font.
I made a new button "Website" and got that working properly...

However I would like the "Home" button to link to my website.
And Have a "Forum" button that links to the frontpage of the forum.
Also, is it possible to rearrange where the buttons are?  Like have "Home" first, then "Forum" second instead of "Help" second.

Can the logo image link be changed also?

Thanks in advance

This is a GREAT theme and my members love it too.

I think I've messed something up however. I used the Admin/News and newsletters feature to add a news item... but now it posts twice on the forums home page. I can't seem to find an option in Admin/News and newsletters to only post it once on home page. Is this something I should edit in a template? If so... can someone please tell me which template and perhaps which code I should change. As you can tell, I am new to this. Thanks in advance for any help.

Me again... I am trying to fix a number of things on my forums tonight while I have time. This is the last problem I am having then I think I am set.

I have added a "Donate" tab and the graphic shows up fine. I looked for instructions on how to simply have the tab go to an html link, but I am so confused. I've tried a few things but they haven't worked. The code below shows the "Donate" part blanked out for now and is the last thing I tried. Could someone please help me with the correct code. The code below is from the index.template.php file in Themes/helios_multi:

Quote
// Show the menu up top.  Something like [home] [help] [profile] [donate] [logout]...
function template_menu()
{
        global $context, $settings, $options, $scripturl, $txt;

        // Show the [home] and [help] buttons.

        echo '<td><a href="', $scripturl, '">', ($settings['use_image_buttons'] ? '<img src="' . $settings['images_url'] . '/' . $context['user']['language'] . '/home.gif" alt="' . $txt[103] . '" style="margin: 0px 0;" border="0" />' : $txt[103]), '</a></td>';
        echo '<td><a href="', $scripturl, '?action=help" >', ($settings['use_image_buttons'] ? '<img src="' . $settings['images_url'] . '/' . $context['user']['language'] . '/help.gif" alt="' . $txt[119] . '" style="margin: 0px 0;" border="0" />' : $txt[119]), '</a></td>';

        // How about the [search] button?
        if ($context['allow_search'])
                echo '<td><a href="', $scripturl, '?action=search">', ($settings['use_image_buttons'] ? '<img src="' . $settings['images_url'] . '/' . $context['user']['language'] . '/search.gif" alt="' . $txt[182] . '" style="margin: 0px 0;" border="0" />' : $txt[182]), '</a></td>';

        // Is the user allowed to administrate at all? ([admin])

              }
[/s]

Edit: I should also add that the first time I uploaded this template after editing it, I got the error message:

"unable to load the 'main_above' template"

I had to upload a backed up copy of the file to restore the forums.

Hi, I am new and have tried to install Helios but it is not installing for some reason. I have installed other themes with no problem. I downloaded the file helios_multi11final.zip. I unzipped it on my hard drive. I uploaded the files to my themes/helios directory. I logged in as Admin and went to the install a new theme area. I pointed to my themes/helios folder and clicked install. It said that the install was successful but all it shows is my default theme. Even when I click preview on the helios theme, it shows my default theme. Any ideas here?

Thanks!  :)

Depends on where you want it.
If you'd like it to the right of your welcome message, then add the image link where it says "Logo" in your theme settings.    <<admin - custom theme>>
Or if you'd like it at the top of your forum above the color changer, then insert your code where it states "Topbar : (use your own HTML code)"

Fatal error: Call to undefined function imagettfbbox() in /home/tinyport/public_html/button-generator/helios.php on line 92

- Helios works fine with SMF 1.1.7, just use the 1.1 version.

Check if you have english_utf8 language selected. If you do, try copy the "english" folder in the "images" folder to "english_utf8" (or similar).

Hi Bloc, I realy like your themes. I have 2 out of 5 themes on my site are yours. I am having problems with the helios_multi theme however and can not get the problem solved in SMF forum or the Simple Portal Forum. The problem I am having is trying to get add as an article to work from Simple Portal. Have had multiple people try and nobody can get it to work. I know you are a busy man but do you think you can give me a hand with this? I have SMF 1.1.10 and SP 2.2.2 .

I am not sure how articles are displayed in SimplePortal, I imagine its just a template? In that case it should not interfere with Helios theme at all.

Hi Bloc,

First, I and everyone registering at my site love the Helios template. They love that everyone has the same thing but with color choices.

Anyways, my problem is that I have uploaded AjaxChat intergration 3.2.1 and the SMF Media Gallery 2.0. The buttons show up find in the Babylon default theme, but I have no idea how to add the buttons on Helios. I have been searching through help forums all day, trying to find the answer, and reading php tutorials but  I simply do not know how to add these buttons.

Could you help me, maybe point me in the right direction?

I think where you add the image is in the "current theme" in your admin panel.

Hi!
I installed this beautiful theme and everything works great in all browsers except for IE6. Sees only the flash banner and a black background.
link:  http://www.forum.patak.com.ba/index.php

Solved.
Settings of the current theme / topbar/ changed HTML code:

<div align="center"> <object classid = "clsid: D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase = "hxxp: download.macromedia.com / pub / shockwave / cabs / flash / swflash.cab # version = 7,0,19,0 [nonactive] "width =" 970 "height =" 270 "title =" animated ">
        <param name="movie" value="p.swf" />
        <param name="quality" value="high" />
        <embed src = "p.swf" quality = "high" pluginspage = "hxxp: www.macromedia.com / go / getflashplayer [nonactive]" type = "application / x-shockwave-flash" width = "970" height = "270"> </ embed>

Bold part of the code is left.

Hi there

I'm using SMF 1.1.10 and Helios Multi (on red, doubt that matters though)

I have tried to install 2 mods that don't seem to want to install 100%
The first one:

Tiny Portal
"Error in Package Installation
At least one error was encountered during a test installation of this package. It is strongly recommended that"
The fault:
7.     Execute Modification     ./index.php     Test failed

2nd one:
Simple Awards System (I have posted in this mod as well for help)
"Error in Package Installation
At least one error was encountered during a test installation of this package. It is strongly recommende.. bla bla bla"
The problem is on:
3.     Execute Modification     ./Themes/default/Display.template.php     Test failed

Any ideas?  I have seen a site using Helios as well as Tiny Portal (or something similar, presuming its TP).

Any help please?

on 1.1.x, with **ANY** theme other than the default, you will have to manually install mods.
mods only install into the default theme.
Also, a failure just means that another mod has alreayd modified that code, so you will have to manually install that portion.

Love this theme.  At the top box (under the color chooser) there is a large black space.  I want to put a logo in there.  How do I do that?  I tried putting my logo URL in the option section where is says to put logo url, but nothing happens...not sure where or what that logo is referring to.  Any help?  Thank you!

EDIT:  Figured it out.  There are two places that ask for logo.  the one on top works

This was left out from Helios..but the option is still in the settings template. I figured as you could use HTML textfields that might be better than a single logo link.

I hope to have Helios out before Christmas, as one of several themes to be updated. The reason it takes so long, is that I won't do just simple conversions - many of my older themes are heavily table-based, and won't transfer well using the default theme in SMF 2.0 RC2.

So they are total rewrites, but with just minor changes in graphics.

Though I haven't decided quite yet, I like to also release them as mods, installed through package manager into the Themes directory. It will allow people to update Helios just by checking the added package server.

having a problem. all icons such as "home, help, search, profile, logout, reply, notify, mark, send this topic, etc etc" do not show up (its text only) when a user logs in. if the user doesnt log in, they show fine.. they even show fine under admin. but when a normal user signs in they are text. why?

try it for yourself. take a look and this site and notice the buttons work. then create a profile (i have disabled the email verification for now) and log in. You'll see all the icons are missing.

xtole, I also replied at blocweb.net.

The solution is to copy the buttons over to all language folders, like "images/english" or "images/norwegian" for example. That should solve the problem.

They will show up if you add them into the same folders as your language. For exmaple "images/spanish-utf8" or "images/german".

Helios was one of my first SMF themes ever made, and is now updated to work with SMF 2.0. The original is kept as much as possible, even the markup follows that. But new icons, newer javascript code and support for Curve-based sections has been added. You now also do not need graphic buttons, instead it uses the language strings already in SMF.

Beware that it does not use dropdown menus, neither in profile/PM/admin sections - where the sidebar is used instead. This was done to be true to the origin of the theme.

Having the similar issue as xtole - buttons are not showing up like they are supposed to - instead - we get just a line of text with the options.

happens if your logged in as admin or normal user.

and yes, the images are in the images/english dir with the buttons and they still don't show up.  This is a clean install of SMF RC3 and Helios Multi - helios_multi20rc3b.  During install of SMF - only installed English - no other language installed.

(http://www.lsp-eve.com/images/no_buttons.PNG)

Any ideas?

Supposed to? Ehm, this IS what it supposed to look I am afraid, the top menu is using a background similar to the old buttons - but its NOT using those anymore(so the english folder isn't used) nor the Curve like style of buttons further below.

This was changed for SMF 2.0 RC3 version to remove the necessity to have translated buttons for every language. It now pulls the texts from language strings.

Hi Bloc, :)

Just wanted to let you know.....

If you select Your Sanctuary you will find that even as a guest, you can mouse over "Home" and you will get a drop-down that has:
"Safe Places"
"Four Trees"
"F.A.Q.s"

This was accomplished by manually editing the Subs.php   ;D
(WITH Arantor's help, I would have CRASHED the forum if he didn't help).  ;)

HOWEVER, this does not "function" when using Helios.   :(

Just thought I would let you know that it somehow effects the Subs.php.  :o

There is a very simple reason for it: Helios doesn't use dropdown menus.

It won't be added anytime soon, as this update was primary done to make it work as-it-is with SMF 2.0 RC3 - staying true to how it was first created.

It won't be added anytime soon, as this update was primary done to make it work as-it-is with SMF 2.0 RC3 - staying true to how it was first created.

Bloc,

I understand.

Wasn't whining, just informing.  No desire to have anything changed.  It's a really nice theme.

You can add drop menus yourself if you want them. They can be added to any theme. :)

Which brings up something.

I have had SMF since ver 1.08(?) and still don't get some stuff.

I think it would be great if someone would post in Support  ver 1.x    OR   ver 2.x
So that people like myself would know what the
Subs.php   does and what Boardindex.template.php  and then what the default is in SMF themes
Is that the theme that I have made default in my forum, or is it ALWAYS the Core default
Can someone just put what files do the major work as a Sticky Topic in Support for ver 2.x and for those that have 1.x ,  the same for them on their Support board.

Wishing the best for all,

Hi,

Very new to the software and the in's and out's so i apologize ahead of time if I'm asking something too obvious.  I'm running with SMF 2.0 RC3.

I'm trying to find out via CSS, how the a:link, a:visited, a:hover definitions are actually working for this theme?  I want to change the link colors for boards, categories, and posts (all unique) and use a a dropShadow filter in some.  If possible, I'd like to have a separate scheme (css file per color) for each color choice, if possible?

I appreciate any help you can offer and look forward to future involvment in this community!

Hello:

This is a great theme and works well for a community I am developing. I noticed, however, that linked events do not show up when viewing a topic that is linked to the calendar. One of the main purposes of the site is to have a consolidated calendar of events that links to threads for various venues. It is important for contributors (posters) to see the linked event.

Is this something that can be easily accomplished with this theme?

FYI: We are running SMF 1.1.11

Thanks in advance,
Bixby

It should show up if you select events to also show on "boardindex". Do they show on default theme?
Title: Re: Helios (updated for SMF2.0 RC4)
Post by: Bixby on July 13, 2010, 02:12:56 PM
If I toggle between the default SMF Theme and Helios, the main difference is that there is a window in the default theme that appears under the link path showing the section and sub-section where the post is located and above the post window with the REPLY | NOTIFY | etc.

The windows has a title Linked Events and shows the connector from the thread posting to the calendar with an option to edit the calendar event by clicking on the red asterisk. Ie: "* Board Game Night: July 20, 2010"

That window does not appear in the Helios theme. Our website will largely be focused around calendar events, so this is an important window.

Hope that clarifies.

Apologies if this has already been mentioned...

There's an "english" directory, inside "images", that has a load of images from the old SMF v1.1.11 default theme. Or, is it Babylon?

Anyway, does that need to be there?

If it does, I'm assuming it's for compatibility with v1.1.11, yes?

On v2.RC3, I guess I can just delete them.

Can you confirm, please, Bloc?

Hiya Bloc,

I was wondering if you could help me out.   I have been trying to use your themes (which I love) but am having trouble getting sertain things to work on my dev team forums.

As you can see, the Nav Bar is messed up and does not have the normal appearance.   Also, the donations link has disappeared from the base nav.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance,

Flap

Just thought I would give this a gentle nudge to see if there were any developments. We really like the theme and dearly hope the functionality can be included in the theme.

Greetings to all,

Like everyone else I agree the Helios Theme is the far and away the Best. I have a few issues I need help with though.

I am running SMF 1.1.11 with the Helios_Multi, and a handfull of normal add-ons.

I am able to enter the Website name at the top of the page but I am not knowledgable enough to know how to increase the font size or change the color of the text.

What are the exact steps a person needs to follow to change these?

When I attempt to include my logo image on the right hand side of the box that contains your Avatar and "You have messages" on the left side of the box, I am able to produce a little white box with a red X inside but no actual logo image.

What are the exact steps a person needs to follow to correct this?

If I could resolve these two difficulties I would be happy, but if there is an easy way to switch places with the "Avatar/messages" and the logo image I would be even happier.

My fourth question would be what are the exact steps a person would have to perform to change the solid black background into something halfway in between the solid black and the medium grey boxes of the default theme colors or maybe even a deep royal blue?

Thanks

That suggests that you simply have the path to te logo wrong. If you right-click on the cross and select "Save image address/location/whatever", you'll see what that path should be.
Title: Re: Helios (updated for SMF2.0 RC4)

As best I can tell there are three methods in the "admin mode" on the "current theme" page of helios to display your domain name and or your logo of choice.

Method one is to type your domain name in the box where it says "Topbar" "use your own html code". When I do this all I get is my domain name at the top of my SMF 1.1.11 Helios as if I had typed it there. How does a person increase the font size and change the color of the text in this location?

Method two is to move to the line below the "Topbar" box located at "admin mode" on the "current theme" page and type something into the box to the right of the word "Logo:"

I assume this to be where a person points their logo on their homepage to the right hand side of the top box of SMF 1.1.11 Helios and they do this by right clicking on their homepage logo then copying and pasteing the address of their homepage logo into this box across from the word "Logo:"?

This assumes a person has a published homepage with a published homepage logo, correct? If it does then this temporarily rules me out but I'd like to have something there for now so this moves us on to method three.

Method three, as best I am able to tell, is to have an image [size unknown] located somewhere on the Internet or somewhere on your computer. You then copy and paste the URL location of the desired image into the box located approximately twenty lines below "Logo" to the empty box to the right of where it says "Logo image URL". But I am probably completely wrong about this since I am guessing!

I suppose the fourth method would be to insert an image into method one?

It would be nice to know the answers to these three dilemmas and I believe the answers would be helpful to others besides myself.

Thanks,

I just upgraded to 2.0 and I'm having an issue with some of the buttons.

On your website, you advertise the buttons as being there.

The screencap shows the "home" button there. On my forums, it's just plain text. I have the images in the English folder and I am aware that there were some changes to make it more compatible for multiple languages. I only have English installed, so I would like to know if there is any way I could make the images show up myself (home, help, search, admin, etc).

Thanks.

I'm using 2.0 RC3 on a test site and the same thing happens for me, no buttons, just "links".

Also, when changing colors using the switcher at the top the top of the forum goes all nuts, turns white and stays that way.

Example: http://www.eojmarket.com/sigtest/index.php

Top of the site is all white...

Edit: Part of the bottom to I just noticed...

No, I don't.

I say that its kept as close as possible, but buttons were not one of those things. On the 1.1 version its quite another matter of course.

Yes, there's a parser on the mod's download page.

Support for mods should be sought by using the mod's support topic.

Correct, my apoligies, I think I'm not asking the correct question... The mod calls for the following edit...

Find: [Select]
   template_info_center();
Replace With: [Select]
   echo '<br class="clear" />';
             template_ad_position('above_info_center');
             template_info_center();

My question is if there is an equivalent string in this template, perhaps different syntax to mean the same thing where I can make this replacement?  If this is still better handeled by support, I can go there.  I thought the template author could add insight.

Thanks,

Helios doesn't have that subtemplate, because its merged with the template_main() function.

Heres what you can do: find this line inside Boardindex.template.php:
// Here's where the "Info Center" starts...

And simply add this ABOVE it:
template_ad_position('above_info_center');

Hi Bloc,

There is an echo statement in the BoardIndex.Template.php of Helios, just before where I inserted this.  I noticed that the text from the Simple Ads mod also had an echo statement but it's different, could this be causing the display problem?

In Helios:

echo $rightboxbot;

template_ad_position('above_info_center');

// Here's where the "Info Center" starts...

Simiple Ads suggests:

echo '<br class="clear" />';
template_ad_position('above_info_center');

I tried it with the Simple Ads echo statement and it didn't seem to work either?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Just installed RC4 for testing and have so far installed simpleportal and helios.
There is currently an image in the block title that belongs to the default theme. (see attachment)
Would anyone have any idea how I can be rid of this image so the block looks as it should.

Hiya, I've been trying to create a php script so i can have 6 banners to match the color tabs you have on the helios theme, but I've not had any look. Is there away you could provide the code so i can put it in above the login box on theme. For example I have a banner to match the brown tab, and a banner to match the red tab etc, I'd like a code so that when i click on the red tab the matching banner shows up with it, and then when i click on the brown tab the matching brown banner shows

Is it possible to make a code like that?

You need to check the index.template.php and modify the code..or rather the inline CSS on that section. The bit you are looking for is this:

     <form action="', $scripturl, '" style="text-align: right; margin-right: 30px; margin-bottom: 2px; margin-top: 2px;" method="post" class="smalltext">
         <input style="border: solid 1px #808080; background-color: #503000; color: #503000; font-size: 6px;" type="submit" value="brown" name="options[theme_color]">
         <input style="border: solid 1px #808080; background-color: #600000; color: #600000; font-size: 6px;" type="submit" value="red" name="options[theme_color]">
         <input style="border: solid 1px #808080; background-color: #908000; color: #908000; font-size: 6px;" type="submit" value="golden" name="options[theme_color]">

It won't work adding a href to the buttons. They are "submit" buttons and as such you can only change the css on them.

The way I made those look like they do was to give them a background color, and a text color the same color as the background + a very small font-size. The result are small buttons(because of the font-size) and invisible text(because of the  same colors). So its not easy to simply exchange with background pictures. You could try..but the text would then show on top of them.

i think i am loosing the plot now lol

What i am trying to do is insert a header banner onto the site but when a member clicks on the colour palet that you designed i am wanting the banner to change aswell

i am just very unsure of how i can make this happen

you would write conditional code around/within your banner IMG tag...

something like

<img blah blah src="mybanner_' . $context['option']['color'] . '.jpg" />

and you'd name each of your banners by color i.e. "mybanner_green.jpg", etc....

do note: I don't know the ACTUAL variable that Block used to store the color option in...

Ah, I misunderstood you. :) I thought you wanted to change the actual buttons lol..while you meant the logos.

Kindred, the variable you need there is $options['theme_color'].

Bloc,

Do you have a link or download for the latest copy of your Helios theme?

We're upgrading from 1.1.14 to 2.0 Gold. Even if its not up to Gold Level, Ill take the latest.

Thanks

Im using the most current Helios theme with smf 2.0 Gold.

FireFox Debug is telling me its getting the quote info from:

<blockquote class="bbc_standard_quote">

I cannot for the life of me find which file I need to change.

Right now its displaying the quote as transparent with the background, I need to fix it.

Thanks

index.css

I've tried that to no eval...

/* A quote, perhaps from another post. */
blockquote.bbc_standard_quote, blockquote.bbc_alternate_quote
{
font-size: x-small;
color: #000;
line-height: 1.4em;
background: url(../images/theme/quote.png) 0.1em 0.1em no-repeat #404d50;
border-top: 2px solid #99A;
border-bottom: 2px solid #99A;
padding: 1.1em 1.4em;
margin: 0.1em 0 0.3em 0;
overflow: auto;
}

Via FireFox when I replace the class=quote, I get a nice background.

Ok, ask Bloc then. It's his theme. I'll merge this with the Helios support thread. :)

oh, I see.

Look at style.css in Helios root folder too, Helios is using both css/index.css and style.css.

Can I use TP with this theme?  Also which TP version do I download?  I just installed SMF 2.0 yesterday.  Thanks so much for the help.

I think the old code was in the board index template, I didnt see any code blocks there.

Thank you much

Is there a way to remove the content at the top where it shows your picture and replace with a logo inside that gold box?

Title: Re: Helios (updated for SMF2.0 final)
Post by: bloc on June 24, 2011, 11:33:03 AM
Yes, it is. Find this code inside index.template.php:
        if (!empty($context['user']['avatar']))
                echo '<td valign="top">', $context['user']['avatar']['image'], '</td>';

and replace it like this:

                echo '<td valign="top"><img src="your_logo" alt="" /></td>';

Ok that solves part of the problem but still leaves this:

It leaves a small icon for the image that isn't there and the following,

Hey, BradToxicBlonde, you have 0 messages, 0 are new.
Show unread posts since last visit.
Show new replies to your posts.

and everything is just shifted to the right.

If there anyway to get rid of all of it?

Attached is a screenshot of the top.

Almost anything is possible..... You just have to learn to code it

I actually did that ages ago back when I used to run Helios on 1.1.x. Damned if I can remember how I did it though. From memory I removed the markup for the text stuff, then set the logo as a centered image with hidden overflow on the container (so it automatically clipped the logo width if the screen was too narrow).

It would be much appreciated.  :)

Right. I didn't remember how I did it ages ago, but I did figure out a method that works. I don't know what you have in your template at the moment, but assuming you are starting with a fresh index.template.php (you can get one from the theme zip) then find this:

        echo '<div id="upshrinkHeader"', empty($options['collapse_header']) ? '' : ' style="display: none;"', '><div style="padding-right: 10px;">'.$topbox.'<table width="100%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" border="0">';
         echo '<tr><td width="45%" valign="bottom" style="padding-right: 10px;"><div style="padding-right: 0px;">';

        echo '<table width="99%" cellpadding="4" cellspacing="5" border="0" style="margin-left: 2px;"><tr>';

        if (!empty($context['user']['avatar']))
                echo '<td valign="top">', $context['user']['avatar']['image'], '</td>';

        echo '<td width="100%" valign="top" class="smalltext" style="font-family: verdana, arial, sans-serif;">
        ';

        // If the user is logged in, display stuff like their name, new messages, etc.
        if ($context['user']['is_logged'])
        {
                echo '
                                                        ', $txt['hello_member'], ' <b>', $context['user']['name'], '</b>';

                // Only tell them about their messages if they can read their messages!
                if ($context['allow_pm'])
                        echo ', ', $txt['msg_alert_you_have'], ' <a href="', $scripturl, '?action=pm">', $context['user']['messages'], ' ', $context['user']['messages'] != 1 ? $txt['msg_alert_messages'] : $txt['message_lowercase'], '</a>', $txt['newmessages4'], ' ', $context['user']['unread_messages'], ' ', $context['user']['unread_messages'] == 1 ? $txt['newmessages0'] : $txt['newmessages1'];

        echo '</div></td><td style="padding-right: 10px;" width="50%" align="right" >';
        if(!empty($settings['header_logo_url']))
               echo '<a href="index.php"><img src="'.$settings['header_logo_url'].'" border="0" alt="logo" /></a>';

        echo ' </td></tr></table>'.$botbox.'</div>';

and replace it with this:

echo '<div id="upshrinkHeader"', empty($options['collapse_header']) ? '' : ' style="display: none;"', '><div style="padding-right: 10px;">'.$topbox.'<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" border="0">';
echo '<tr>
<td style="width: 1920px; background: url('.$settings['header_logo_url'].') center center no-repeat;">
<a href="index.php" style="display: block; height: 200px;">&nbsp;</a>
</td>
</tr></table>'.$botbox.'</div>';

Note that the width for the td has to be set in px. It wont force the page to that width if the screen is narrower (it'll just shrink to suit the resolution) but if you don't use a number large enough it wont fill a large screen. I suggest leaving it at 1920 as most screens are smaller than that, but you can make it bigger if you think it's necessary.

The image url is whatever is set on the current theme page in admin. The background positioning is set to centre the image vertically and horizontally, but you can change that too if you like. Alternatives are center top, center bottom, left center and right center.

The height for the a should be whatever your logo height is, or if you wish to use a much bigger image (like a wallpaper) you can use the height setting to clip the background at whatever you like. Obviously it's better to not load a whole wallpaper if you just want a smaller logo. ;)

This setup will leave you with a full width top box on any screen, set to whatever height you want, with an image that will fill the entire box if you make it large enough, and with the surface of the entire box linked to your home page. :)

Thank you!  Thank you!  Thank you!   This works perfectly!

I have a (hopefully) simple problem with the theme.  While I absolutely love it, and I must say it is very very well done, there is an issue with the theme settings.  When trying to set the "Show who is viewing the board index and posts", it is stuck on only numbers.  I can change it to member names or to not show at all, but when I hit save it goes back to numbers every time.  How can I fix this?

PS another weird thing is that there is TWO "Show who is viewing the board index and posts" options.  They seem to be identical.  Is this normal?

Also just curious, not sure if it's a problem with the theme or just SMF but if I have a large entry in a table such as a large emoticon, I can't see all of the categories because they're pushed out of view.  I have a large emote, and i can't see any checkboxes now.  Is there an easy fix for changing the width of these settings tables?

We are living with that problem by having short file names, code names,etc.

Admin>Themes and settings>Current Theme

I had posted the issue over at your Web.

Enclosed is a screen shot of the problem with the things showing twice and the "show only numbers" default.

Disregard the alignment problem.. That was IE8 being in non compat mode.

My appologies, There is/was alot going on.

Yes the Admin>smilies and emotioncons>Edit Smiley screen gets blown out to the right, if the code/filename/tooltips desc are long enough and move the margins over.  It wont let you scroll over either. The temp fix was to reduce the browser resolution to 75% or less to bring everything into the view.

I think it did that in the previous version of Helios as well(non 2.0) as well as the core themes (2.x)

When the new smilies were setup however, some of the admins were giving them 20 char names, etc. I have since shortened them down to fix it.

Maybe a simple overflow CSS value is needed then. (sigh, why is so many smaller tweaks needed for something as trivial as overflow in the default theme.. ::) :P )

If you know what you're doing in the DB, you can set that value. But everytime someone saves that current theme page it will default back.

Is there a way to shut off guests being able to print forum posts?  I have seen some things talk about removing it in the Display.Template.php but this theme doesn't have it.

Can anyone help on this?

Thanks so much!

Well..i don't know the details on theses mods and whats required, but one step is to look in the mod install files to see what its trying to do. Also, seeing where and what code fails when you test it through package manager would be helpful.

The quickest way is to simply delete those tempaltes that "fails", except index.template. The theme will look more plain, but at least the mods will work.

Brother, vnes integration mod requires dropdown menu. It only shows .nes roms in dropdown menu to play like super contra, arthur robin. Super maria bros. Etc. So, its useful for some Gaming forums.

So is there anyway to run the mod with this theme?
Plz help me. Which steps required for that.

Anyway its a Great theme.
Thanks for creating this.

Been messing about abit and when i change this part

/* Alternating backgrounds for posts, and several other sections of the forum. */
.windowbg
{
        font-family: verdana, helvetica, serif;
        color: #ffffff;
        background-color: #303030;

to this

/* Alternating backgrounds for posts, and several other sections of the forum. */
.windowbg
{
        font-family: verdana, helvetica, serif;
        color: #000000;
        background-color: #303030;

it makes the text in the code tags black but also the main body text black

This theme was a continuation of the SMF 1.1 version of it, not a rewrite of it for 2.0. Therefore it does not support the dropdown menu.

Wow what an excellent theme, nice work bloc, i have read through all the 17 pages for this theme, but it seems no one has answered ToeJam question which is

QuoteI'm trying to find out via CSS, how the a:link, a:visited, a:hover definitions are actually working for this theme?  I want to change the link colors for boards, categories, and posts (all unique) and use a a dropShadow filter in some.  If possible, I'd like to have a separate scheme (css file per color) for each color choice, if possible?

Please i also desire the same thing too, i will be glad if any can point me to where i can change the color for the Cathegory text, Board text including child board or even revise the mouse effect color on the text.
i am still a noob in coding please.

Hmmm still waiting, though i have been able to change the color of the category and the child board, But an stuck with that of the board or revising the color effect on mouse over. Some one help please.

However for those that wants to change the color of their category and child board, go modify them and select the modify style sheet, then select index.css. look for this part of the code

FOR CATEGORY

/* Styles for rounded headers.
------------------------------------------------------- */
h3.catbg, h3.catbg2, h3.titlebg, h4.titlebg, h4.catbg, .table_list tbody.header td
{
   overflow: hidden;
   height: 31px;
   line-height: 32px;
   font-weight: bold;
}
h3.catbg a, h3.catbg, .table_list tbody.header td, .table_list tbody.header td a
{
   color: #fff;

Replace with

/* Styles for rounded headers.
------------------------------------------------------- */
h3.catbg, h3.catbg2, h3.titlebg, h4.titlebg, h4.catbg, .table_list tbody.header td
{
   overflow: hidden;
   height: 31px;
   line-height: 32px;
   font-weight: bold;
}
h3.catbg a, h3.catbg, .table_list tbody.header td, .table_list tbody.header td a
{
   color: ANY COLOR OF YOUR CHOOSE;

FOR THE CHILD BOARD

Look for this

/* Styles for the board index.
------------------------------------------------- */

/* the board title! */
.table_list tbody.content td.info a.subject
{
   font-weight: bold;
   font-size: 110%;
}
.table_list tbody.content td.children
{
   color: REPLACE THE COLOR HERE WITH YOURS;
   font-size: 85%;

Am having some troubles using this beloved theme with ADK portal, and i was wondering if any one has also experienced this.
i recently installed the adk portal system and got just one error on the index.templete.php, and on going through the parse to make the changes. i noticed i was only unable to replace this
Quote}

function template_body_below()
{
with this as it was directed, with this
Quote
      if(function_exists('loadCTop'))loadCTop();
}

function template_body_below()
{
   if(function_exists('loadCBottom'))loadCBottom();
and checking through the index.templete.php it was noticed this
Quote}

function template_body_below()
{
was not actually there but this
Quote
}

function template_main_below()
{
with the help of a friend on the community, i was directed to replaced that with the code need for the replacement and on doing that i got this error bellow
QuoteTemplate Parse Error!
It seems something has gone sour on the forum with the template system. This problem should only be temporary, so please come back later and try again. If you continue to see this message, please contact the administrator.
Please can someone help me through if you have been successful with the adk portal system on this theme.
