Otsikko: Spiders as Groups? Is it possible?
Kirjoitti: CheChen - maaliskuu 10, 2006, 07:57:36 IP
Is it possible with SMF to adjust the forum, that it treats spider (e.g. google) as user groups?

Thanks..

Why? What kind of control do you want or do expect to have?

I mean a membergroup is one that you create, manage, etc. You can't do that with a bot / spider.

I want to create a forum, which only will be seen by a spider and not by others.

It sounds like a perfectly interesting "black hat" technique for shoving junk content on a site, capturing search traffic, but forcing users to login in (or similar).

Not a good idea for most sites, though, as search engines want their spiders to see the same thing as their human users.

2c.

Yes its possible.

The following is psuedo-code

if ( $spider )
  $user_info['groups'][] = $some_group_id;

You'd have to edit Load.php
