Otsikko: Theme Modification/Creation How-to
Kirjoitti: rabbithutch - maaliskuu 13, 2006, 09:36:56 IP
Is there a 'how-to' for modifying or creating themes?

I'd like to use a different color scheme -- one consistent with my website theme colors.  I've noodled around and see that there are themes available, but I haven't really seen a reference to a 'how-to'.

What I need is a step-by-step approach as I am a noob to SMF and to forum administration generally; however, I've been in HTML/CSS up to my elbows.  Seems to me that the color scheme would, logically, be controlled by styles; but from what I've seen, it is not a simple process.

Would really appreciate any pointers.

So, what I did was make a copy of the default theme then edit the 'style.css' file (I'm using TopStyle Lite so I can see the change effects - what do you use?).  I was able to manipulate everything I wanted to EXCEPT the forum buttons.  They still showed up in the default blue color with white text.  Editing the 'button' element didn't change them.

What am I missing?

You mean the "forum, help search..." style buttons? The background is a bg url img, you can see in your style file. I think its 3 imgs for both corners and the repeat bg. I forget which img it is, but thats what the back is. I don't remember what css item the colors were, unless some else knows you would be better off looking in the boardindex.template (mine was index.template since I am using tinyportal) and look where the buttons are and see what div or tr class it is. I replaced all of them with buttons on http://www.kittieforums/forums/ .
I use notepad to edit all of the files including the style file.

I never really followed a process I just dove into it. This is right after coming from phpBB when I never edited my themes, smf is great with it  ;)
