Link to the theme (https://custom.simplemachines.org/index.php?theme=6)

Amber is a modern theme with a side-centered user-info part rather than one on top, plus use of shadow effects and curves. There is also a sidebar where you can insert your own html code.

The message icons.
They work when you're replying/posting a msg (standard/exclamation/etc)
but then in the actual forum and the posted topics they don't work

Hi,

Im running SMF 1.1 RC2 with the Amber theme.  What i would like to do is replace the search feature on the left side with a custom flash script.  I got it to look the way i want by copying the source coe via IE and dropping it in a text file and editing the code then making it index.php and uploaded that.  It looked perfect but then no one was able to log in or out.  Apparently i messed something up so i put the old index back.  These are my current forums followed by a link to the custom index.php file.

http://gov-ls.com

http://gov-ls.com/index1.php

How would i PROPERLY edit the index file to do this without disturbing anything else on the forums?
Any help on this would be extremely appreciated.  Thanks.

No, you can't edit index.php..you rather edit index.template.php inside the Amber theme folder.

Hey bloc thanks, that helped alot.  I got it working perfectly.  Thanks so much.  I have one last issue though, I cant seem to change the name of the cell on the side.  Since it was the search block, the tab says "Search"  I want to change that.  I can find where i would change it for News and the other side blocks, but for some reason I cant find it for the "Search" block which is now my custom flash block.  Please help out, its the last thing i need lol.  How can i edit that "Search" tab to say what i need it to?

Its in fact just a language string..so find this and change it:
<b>', $txt[182], '</b>
to:
<b>YOURTEXT</b>

Is there a way to make it so You get a pop up when you recieve a personal message via the admin panel without having to edit every users account manually?  I see that i can edit their personal messaging options myself, but that would take a long time to do, and i would like it so the user cant turn this feature off.  PMs arent send often on my forums and when they are its usually for an important reason, I want to make sure people see them as soon as they login.  Thanks.

Title: Re: Amber

First off I have just rebuilt my site as my host went away and I used to use IPB.  I just started with SMF last night and found Amber...it just stinkin' rocks.  The entire system is better and your template is GREAT!

Now my quesiton(s):

1) My only issue so far with very limited testing is that the little xx.gif next to each post is gone.  I get the fatal 'red x' instead.  (http://doubleclicks.info/dcsmf) if anyone cares to look.

2) Also, and this isn't specific to your template, but is there a way to have a graphic verification for new registrations in SMF?  It kept down spammers significantly in IPB in the past, but I can't seem to find any thing here.

Any and all help is appreciated!

Of course I haven't figured out how to install MODs yet either, but will with time.

Both questions can be answered by upgrading to SMF 1.1 RC3. Amber works only 100% on SMF 1.1x and 1.1 RC3 has image verification built in.

Happy New Year Bloc.  A question if I might. I just downloaded the Amber theme for my photography site. I haven't been able to fine a theme that would relate to a photography site but this one is umm Just great I think. My question is how would I add the gallery button to the links up top. It appeared on the default theme of course after I added the package but not really sure how to do this using your amber theme.
Thank you in advance.

I am so pleased with this theme bloc.  Thank you.

I am sitting here looking at this:

Quote// Show right to left and the character set for ease of translating.
   echo '<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"', $context['right_to_left'] ? ' dir="rtl"' : '', '><head>
   <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=', $context['character_set'], '" />
   <meta name="description" content="', $context['page_title'], '" />', empty($context['robot_no_index']) ? '' : '
   <meta name="robots" content="noindex" />', '
<meta name="keywords" content="PHP, MySQL, bulletin, board, free, open, source, smf, simple, machines, forum" />

Fear has gripped me by the throat.

I have to insert a "meta tag" and I am terrified.  I used a meta tag generator so I have the full code so I shouldn't be scared, but try telling that to my panic ridden brain.  What do I do and am I even allowed to do this?

This is the theme I use for my board. I've upgraded to SMF 1.1.1, but, I believe I'm still using an older version of Amber (1.1 RC1, I believe).

Are there steps I need to take to upgrade Amber to be compatible with the SMF 1.1.1 version? I don't think I can/should just upload the newer version of the theme, because that probably will overwrite any/all mods I've added...

Any suggestions/guidance?

Thanks!

Just download the 1.1final version, that will work fine on 1.1.1 - and the way you can do it, is to simply upload and overwrite your current Amber folder.

Hi!

First, thanks a lot for the beautiful theme :D

However, there seems to be one problem with changing the theme's appearence from the admin panel, that hasn't been addressed here yet.

When you go to Admin -> Current theme -> Edit theme -> Modify css file

then it's supposed to show a 'copy' of the forum in a smaller area, updating its appearance as you modify the style file.

With Amber theme, several images are missing from that preview (but everything works fine in 'the real thing')

I discovered this (naturally enough ;) ) when modifying the theme's appearance for my site, so I first thought I had broke something myself. But making a clean install of the theme on another test site I immediately got the same problem - please see the pic below where missing images in the preview are marked by red and similar images correctly shown in the 'page itself' by green.

I have SMF 1.1.2 on the 'real' site and 1.1.1 on the test site where the pic above was taken.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Thats because SMF assume images to be in one folder "images", while some of the images in Amber theme lays in a subfolder of images.

That was my first guess too, but just putting copies of these files from images/img to images didn't help :(

Any ideas or hints (about how this SMF preview feature works and where the code for it is, at least)?

Hi Bloc,

I sent you an email on this, as well; but I'm not sure if you received it.

I ended up having to manually upgrade SMF from 1.1.2 to 1.1.3. Along the way, I clearly ended up doing something that stopped the dates from appearing next to my members birthdays, on the front page.

See here - at the bottom

http://www.libogroup.com/SMF/index.php

It is supposed to look like this:

9-2 - Slyde

In my error log, is the following error (over and over):

http://www.libogroup.com/SMF/index.php

8: Undefined index: date
File: /var/www/libogroup.com/SMF/Themes/amber11final/BoardIndex.template.php (main sub template - eval?)
Line: 290

Line 290 of that php file simply contains this:

', $member['date'], ' -

I'm assuming wherever it pulls the "date" from, is corrupted, but I'm not sure. I suspect it pulls from sources\boardindex.php, but I wouldn't even know what to look for to activate that....

Is this something relatively easy to fix???

Thanks!

Chris

I love amber and have just set up a new forum with it.

When a board has new topics or replies posted within it, the graphic by that board stays the same, and when you scroll over it, it says "no new posts."

Any idea how to fix this? Everything else seems to be working fine. Thanks!

I have a problem using the Amber theme.  I installed it, but I don't get any text showing up.  You can see at www.hopeandheartache.com/forum  I look in the code of board display index, and I keep seeing numbers inside php variables, such as on line 211 of boardindex.templay.php: $txt[685].  I don't understand php, and I've searched and searched online but still don't understand.  What are these numbers?  Are they supposed to call up some text to display?  How can I get text to display? The titles such as "Recent Posts", "calendar", etc. don't display in the main table, and things like "Search", etc. don't show in the left-hand column.  I can't get the menu buttons at the top of the page to display, either.
Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

You have to modify the index.template.php towards the end of the file and add the link you want.

Coris, sorry it took so long have you figured it out or do you still need help?

Bloc (or anyone), I am trying to install the Global announcements Mod in Amber but I'm coming up short becuase the "find" command doesn't find what it's looking for. I've looked all over and made some attempts on my own but to no avail. The way you wrote it is so different from the default I'm having a problem figuring out where the adds should go and if they're even written correctly for this theme.

**edit** I figured it out.

After a reinstall for upgrading to 1.1.5 i find a little problem with the amber theme i want to improve.
Like you see in the picture there's quiet some place between the left sidebar and the main topic list of my forum.
Some links in the left sidebar display now at 2 rows, while maybe the can be at 1 when i i can play little bit with the "width" parameter of the left side bar.
Is this possible?
There is even some difference with the demo of the amber theme (http://custom.simplemachines.org/themes/index.php?lemma=6) , only take a look at "advanced search", this comes in my forum as "advanced" and on the next row "search"....

I am here, and planning to update it to SMF2. But there are many other tasks first in line.

Raoul, check the index.template and style.css files to change the width. But be warned, its designed for a specific width only, something I tried to avoid in later themes. Amber really needs a rewrite on that, but as mentioned, no time for it yet.

Could u please by anyway solve that ? I tried adding ".rtl" classs in the "style.css" so the other classes will be Descendant to it , also I tried adding "If" sentence in the ".php" files to dispaly a flipped horizontal version of the images in case user direction is rtl , But all goes with no success.

Any Help ?

And could u also plz add the Buttons PSD files..

I'm using the amber which has a left column for search, news, and stats. I wonder if there is a way to add more to these columns like standard html links and such without blowing it (the forum) out of the water or using a mod?
