Today I modified a thread, that is a sticky. And after I posted it, the date under edited said December 31, 1969. This is the only place I have noticed the wrong date. What happened?

Something wrong with the server time probably and has nothing to do with smf.
If this is the only time you encountered that, there is absolutely no problem.
