Title: Awards Mod
Post by: winrules on March 21, 2006, 11:28:03 PM
Link to Mod (http://mods.simplemachines.org/index.php?mod=313)

This mod will add a "Profile Awards" and "Post Awards" field to the profile. Only admins can change it. The "Profile Awards" will be displayed in the profile, and the "Post Awards" will be displayed next to the user's posts. You can use BBC in both of them.

These settings:

will result in this in the profile screen:

and this in the user's posts:

Mine works great on both my forums.

I have it in use at www.otek671.com with the custom theme. There are only one file that needs to be changed on a custom theme and thats the Display template. Very easy to do. Thanks again for the great mod!!

Are you using a custom theme?
Title: Re: Awards Mod

um, yes and no. it's based off of the default theme. i see the bit of code in the profile template, it doesn't display on the default theme either.

wait, that's it *laughs*  i forgot the rc2 default is not the default ours reads off of.

thanks!

@azxure

If your using a custom theme.

Find this:

<![CDATA[
// Show how many posts they have made.
echo '
', $txt[26], ': ', $message['member']['posts'], '<br />
<br />';
]]>

Replace with this:

<![CDATA[
// Show how many posts they have made.
echo '
', $txt[26], ': ', $message['member']['posts'], '';

if (!empty($message['member']['options']['profile_postawards']))
{
$postawards = parse_bbc($message['member']['options']['profile_postawards']);
echo '<br />Awards: ' . $postawards . '';
}

echo ' <br />
<br />';
]]>

You can see it used at my site on this thread. Look for my member Josh05.  I placed this on the bottom of his signature.

i found it, thanks for the help though!    i hadn't even thought to check the themes (we don't use that new default one, so i forgot to even check it)

i'm using it as a supporter icon, so i also went in and got rid of the "award:" text, it's perfect!

Do you have any mods installed?
Title: Re: Awards Mod
Post by: perplexed on April 08, 2006, 01:38:04 PM
Installations actions for "Award Mod":
Installing this package will perform the following actions:
   Type    Action    Description
1.    Execute Modification    ./Themes/default/Profile.template.php    [color=red=Test failed[/color]
2.    Execute Modification    ./Themes/default/Display.template.php    Test successful

I have moved some things in the profile template ie the avatar is now under the name instead of at the bottom of the posts, so could this be the problem and if so, is there some way to manually install this mod (I would need instructions though)

~thanks

btw I installed the custom profile fields mod with no problems so perhaps that isnt the problem?

Do this (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=77477.msg523365#msg523365) for display.template.php and for profile.template.php
Find:

<td><input type="text" name="websiteUrl" size="50" value="', $context['member']['website']['url'], '" /></td>
</tr>';

And Replace With:

<td><input type="text" name="websiteUrl" size="50" value="', $context['member']['website']['url'], '" /></td>
</tr>';
if ($context['user']['is_admin'])
{
echo ' <tr>
<td colspan="2"><hr width="100%" size="1" class="hrcolor" /></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td><b>Profile Awards: </b></td> <td><input type="text" name="default_options[profile_awards]" size="50" value="', @$context['member']['options']['profile_awards'], '" /></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td><b>Post Awards: </b></td> <td><input type="text" name="default_options[profile_postawards]" size="50" value="', @$context['member']['options']['profile_postawards'], '" /></td>
</tr>';
}

Find:

// Some more information.
echo '
</td>
</tr><tr>
<td><b>', $txt[96], ': </b></td>
<td><a href="', $context['member']['website']['url'], '" target="_blank">', $context['member']['website']['title'], '</a></td>
</tr><tr>
<td><b>', $txt[113], ' </b></td>
<td>
<i>', $context['can_send_pm'] ? '<a href="' . $context['member']['online']['href'] . '" title="' . $context['member']['online']['label'] . '">' : '', $settings['use_image_buttons'] ? '<img src="' . $context['member']['online']['image_href'] . '" alt="' . $context['member']['online']['text'] . '" align="middle" />' : $context['member']['online']['text'], $context['can_send_pm'] ? '</a>' : '', $settings['use_image_buttons'] ? '<span class="smalltext"> ' . $context['member']['online']['text'] . '</span>' : '', '</i>';

And Replace With:

// Some more information.
echo '
</td>
</tr><tr>
<td><b>', $txt[96], ': </b></td>
<td><a href="', $context['member']['website']['url'], '" target="_blank">', $context['member']['website']['title'], '</a></td>
', !empty($context['member']['options']['profile_awards']) ? '</tr><tr> <td><b>Awards: </b></td> <td>' . parse_bbc($context['member']['options']['profile_awards']) . '</td>' : '', '
</tr><tr>
<td><b>', $txt[113], ' </b></td>
<td>
<i>', $context['can_send_pm'] ? '<a href="' . $context['member']['online']['href'] . '" title="' . $context['member']['online']['label'] . '">' : '', $settings['use_image_buttons'] ? '<img src="' . $context['member']['online']['image_href'] . '" alt="' . $context['member']['online']['text'] . '" align="middle" />' : $context['member']['online']['text'], $context['can_send_pm'] ? '</a>' : '', $settings['use_image_buttons'] ? '<span class="smalltext"> ' . $context['member']['online']['text'] . '</span>' : '', '</i>';

Hope you can get it to work :)

PS: If you have the custom profile field mod 2.1 installed this mod really isn't needed, as you can just make 2 fields that are only editable by admins (one that is displayed in posts, and another thats displayed in profile).

You could add a set of different decorations and medals (with a link or alt-text description what they are) so a Mod or Admin just has to set up what meaning each one has and can grant them with a checkbox?

Not exactally, you can just put bbc in a members award field.

Other Boards have a set of Medals just like they have a set of ranks/stars. I was not asking if this mod can do it, i was sugesting it as another step of development :)

But until then i got to use special smileys i guess...?

You could use (http://rankimage.gif) for a special image, I haven't really worked on this mod at all for a long time but I might look into implementing that.

Sorry to bring up an old topic, but I'd love to see this made compatible with RC3. I looked briefly into it, and it looks like a minor change. (Though it's not my script, so I won't go mucking it up)

Actually... this is kind of cheap, but simply changing the "RC2" to "RC3" in the code looks like enough to make it compatible.

I've been using this simple little Mod for a little more than a month now, and I've found it so useful. Thanks again.

Does anyone know a site where I can prepare such graphical awards for users?

so until u explain that there is no risk with this i dont wanna disable it, because if its gonna complete shut off my error log, then that would defeat the purpose of the error log and not fix the problem so i am just wondering.

It will make it display more detailed errors from the file. If it breaks your forum, you can quickly undo it by running this query:

REPLACE INTO smf_settings
   (variable, value)
VALUES ('disableTemplateEval', '0');

Winrules, I've got quite a few installed on my test site. They are:
Reason For Editing Mod
LogModAccountEdits
SMF Arcade
SMF Staff Page
Group Moderators
User Post Limit Options
Board Notes
Topic description
SMFShop
Admin Notepad
Custom Profile Field Mod
vMulticolor-Stars Mod
LogModAccountEdits
Spoiler Tag
VisualWarning
ShowTopics
Image Align
vReportBoard Mod

I've had a quick look at the other mod you've recommended, looks quite good. As a matter of interest, why are you suggesting I don't use your mod?
Title: Re: Awards Mod
Post by: winrules on January 03, 2007, 05:12:51 PM
You'll probally have to manually install it since you have so many mods installed.

I'd suggest you use the other mod because it is a lot better and I haven't updated this one in ages.
The only reason I'm keeping up to date with current version of SMF is so that people that were previously using it can continue to use it.

Hello winrules! I use your award mod and i´m very happy with it! It´s a very good idea.
But i have two questions about customizing your mod.
First i want to know how i add the text in the profil to the german language pack, because i use the board with that and when i want to change the awards, i have to change the board language.
Additionally i want to know how i can make that people can see the awards at the postings even if not the default theme is set (in this case PnPn). The profile awards work, but the post awards not in the pnpn theme.
I would be very grateful for your answer, and sorry for my bad english.
Thanks

Is there anyway to get a page to display them?

you can view some of the awards i have on my board at this URL http://artificialintelligence.the-aria.net/board/index.php?action=profile;sa=awards;u=2

Hiya, I have a problem when I install this mod.&nbsp; I have 2 forums both 1.1.2 and if I install on one (with a custom theme) it works fine.&nbsp; If I install it on the other (with the normal classic yabb theme) the mod installs correctly but all the links and add an award buttons don't show there are just gaps and spaces where the links should be! How odd! Any ideas?&nbsp; Thanks.

I think the mod only installs on the default theme, so basically u need to treat the classic theme as a custom theme and modify the appropriate files as indicated in the install file.  Good Luck.

SMF tell you, quite correctly, to do a backup of your files and database prior to adding any mod so that you will be in a position to restore from these backups should anything go wrong...if you've done that and read the SMF documentation then you should be perfectly save to work on your files. You might consider trying to restore your forum onto a spare database to make sure that you do know how to do it properly.

It doesn't look as though you've managed to completely remove a previous install of this mod as the error you reported indicates it as being installed twice over.

Okay, for some reason, the Awards portion under the avatar is not working on Scribbles2 Theme. I recently upgraded from 1.1.2 to 1.1.4, and there is no problem with seeing the Awards under the avatar with my old theme "dilbermc" but when I switch the theme to Scribbles2, the Awards under the avatar is not there. The Award is visible in the profile, and I can alter that if I want to, but thats it? What can I do?

Is there anything we can do to fix this? And when will this be updated in 1.1.4 version? Thanks

Almost all mods only install automatically into the SMF default theme...all other themes are custom themes and for each of them you will need to follow the instructions given in the links below.

1.1.4 - It *should* work but i'd recommend using the Member Awards (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=475) mod instead.
2.0 Beta 3 Public - It will not work. However you can do almost the same thing with a custom profile field.

Just installed manually on 1.1.9  it works fine, but it picks up the title of the Thread.   and displays it under the image of my award.  any ideas.
