I am curious, when I copy the default theme in 1.0.6 in the Install a New Theme area of the admin section "Create a copy of the Default named:" why do most of the images that my new created theme use need to still be in the original Default themes image folder such as Icons. I recolored folder-open.gif and I had to put in Default/images/icons in order for it to show up on my theme which I have called TBC. Originally I stuck it in TBC/images/icons but it just wouldnt show up on my board with it there. Is there some sort of pointer out there I am not seeing? Also I noticed that when i used "Create a copy of Default named:" that it didnt copy all of the php files over. Why is that?
If you want your newly created theme to use its own images, go to Admin / Theme and Layout Settings / Click the link to the theme located in a box on the right. (If it is the current theme you are viewing, you can simply just go to Current Theme's Settings) Now find where it says This theme's images URL and change the foldername to your theme's folder name in the path. You should then be able to upload images into a images folder for that theme.
As for the the copying of files, the installer only copies the most commonly edited files, such as style.css, index.template.php, and BoardIndex.template.php. When a file doesn't exist in a theme it reverts to the default theme's template file. So you can simply copy over a file that you want to change from the default theme to your new theme's folder. Otherwise, if you don't change it, it is not necessary.
oh ok cool! thank you for the explanation! :)
