As you may have noticed, we've been very busy improving both the Simple Machines main website, and our SMF software. On December 31st, 2005 we released SMF 1.1 RC2. Almost a month later, our new website layout was made public with a surprise launch. The Mod Site was also renovated around the same time.
Today Simple Machines is proud to announce even more achievements in our continuing development: a new release, 1.0.7, and a patch for 1.1 RC2, and the release of two new services; the SMF Online Manual and the long anticipated Theme Site.
SMF 1.0.7 and RC2
Simple Machines is pleased to release a security update for both our SMF 1.0.x and 1.1 RCx versions. These releases address an input validation vulnerability of the X-Forwarded-For header. This update can easily be installed through the package manager in both versions. More details are available in the Community Forum.
SMF Online Manual
The new SMF Online Manual located at http://docs.simplemachines.org documents the installation, use and administration of a Simple Machines Forum. There are also advanced sections detailing how to code new modifications and themes. Please comment and/or make suggestions about any of the articles. Unlike many other software documentation, the Online Manual uses our own software, SMF, with a wiki-like theme created by Bloc. Expect a release of this theme in the near future. It was made to mimick the functions of a wiki-site, and displays first post in a topic with a certain style - and any further posts with a simpler comment-like style. It also use a clever scheme of sorting topics alphabetically. More details on this when it will be released shortly.
SMF Theme Site
In the past, finding and installing themes in SMF has been a hassle, but we are pleased to simplify this for you. The new Theme Site (http://themes.simplemachines.org) gives a wide range of options to allow you to narrow down your search. For example, if you are looking for a 'dark' theme, or just want to see themes designed by your favorite author, you can now sort themes into categories that meet those requirements. Sometimes you may just want a popular theme, so we've added a Featured Themes section.
The Latest and Greatest Theme's section of your Theme Administration page has been left empty for far too long! With the launch of the Theme Site, this section will now know glory. Simply access the Theme Administration page (?action=theme;sa=admin) and the Latest and Greatest section will show you some of the latest themes added, one of our best featured themes, and a random theme for your enjoyment.
Wow!! Great job on the additions!! The Documentation looks like a really well laid out version of an SMF Wiki (perhaps another project not yet released to public ;) ).
Definately like the theme section. I do wish you could have the option to "view all" themes available (even if it did paginate them) rather than going category by category. But other than that small suggestion, really nice job!!
Found some missing info :(

Awesome work all around, everything looks great to me. :)
You guys and gals are GOOD~!
THANK YOU ALL~!
SMF Documentation looks great. Look forward to its general release!

That'll be fixed very soon. The Docs should be complete as 1.1 goes final. We're working out hardest :)
But keep reporting anything you see that's incorrect or un-normal and we'll look right into it. :)
the team should add thumb up/down/middle graphics to the rating theme window

Great! Do you release to public the SMF online script?
Thanks
Very KEWL!! Great job you all. ;)
Wow! Very impressive! Thank you!

Great job guys keep up the good work for the community
Absolutly Beautiful!!!! GREAT JOB keep up the awsome work, and nice them bloc :D
This is great for newbies in forums creation/admin like me, and they told me to use phpBB, i now see that i made the right decision, go SMF go.
BTW, Is there a readmap for 1.1 release and more? I have not been able to find it :-\
And how do i ge those cool smilies that you have here, they are not on the default theme, it would be really cool if we could apply that wiki style to just one category of the board, being a newbie is this possible to style categories in different themes?
-Dan
Wow great news! Its looking amazing! :)

The next version in the 1.1 range will be either 1.1 RC3 or 1.1 final (depending on how sure we are it will be bug free). The main things that will have been fixed in these versions are internationalization (there will be explicit UTF-8 support and it will be possible to convert a board to UTF-8 character set) and improved search. Many (smaller) bugs will have been fixed as well.
As for the next version, it will have many features that help the moderator, both in monitoring the forum and in performing moderation actions. Also there will be a lot of improvements in the profile screen. And of course more AJAX will have been integrated. This is just a sketch, subject to changes and many more features.
Great!
Nice work any way you look at it. Any tableless themes?
Cheers,
David

An Error Has Occurred!
Session verification failed. Please try logging out and back in again, and then try again.

If you mean the theme, then it will soon be released - just some minor adjustments is needed first.
yes, wiki theme is awesome
another preview is here:
http://www.tinyportal.net/smf/index.php?theme=21
will be paid or free?
I want it anyway.
Hope it gonna be free :P
It's going to be a pay for theme. The cost will be your soul.
Plus some icecream ;)
what do theme authors get?
oh, icecream is nice. Strawberry please. ;D
You didn`t answer the question... :P
How do you mean what do theme authors get?
They get the pleasure of making people happy and seeing their work used on peoples forums.
Quote from: Thantos on April 03, 2006, 01:51:21 AM
It's going to be a pay for theme.
So all the "paying" gonna go to Lewis Media?
Jeez, if you are going to quote at least quote the entire thing. The "price" should make it pretty clear I was joking.
All themes up on simplemachines.org are free. And all theme authors are creating the themes for free, on their own time afaik.
There, that should make it crystal-clear. ;D
Just wanted to add my THANKS to the SMF TEAM ... you collectively do an awesome job.
Thanks too to all the people who develop add-on modules/modifications & themes .... your efforts and generosity in sharing are truly appreciated. Especially by those of us who do not have the knowledge & "artistic gifts" you all seem to possess.
Thank you all
Peter
any news about that theme?
Just installed SMF to my site and was looking for the documtentation. An idea for you might be to post a link in a closed sticky for easy access to new users like myself took me a while to find the link.
The version I installed is the latest 1.0.7 - While reviewing the documentation I noticed there are some things that are not explained for new users, like how to adjust membergroup access permissions once a board has been added. You can modify the board once added and modify membergroup permissions but how do you modify the membergroups themselves that can access a board. Is there a way to modify access permissions by category rather then by board ?
There is also nothing in the documentation to explain where you can make changes to emails sent(ie activation emails, welcome emails).
Will the documentation be updated for the features now available in 1.0.7 I noticed there are some features listed in the documentation that are not available in this new release.
Actually, the documentation is written for 1.1 but much of it can still be helpful for the 1.0.x branch.
When you find things that are missing, please post to the Online Manual requesting those items.
We appreciate your comments and are attempting to make our Manual as complete as it can be.
As it says in the OM title: "SMF 1.1 Online Manual"
Much of it will still be useful for 1.0 though.
One simple suggestion for the online manual,
Let's connect the user database from the simplemachines forum used to the user database for the manual forum. The reasons to do this are simple.
- Unregistered users will not be able to post nonsense
- Users remain recognizable without having to register another account
- People will (hopefully) be able to actually post something in the feedback (http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?board=1.0) and requests (http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?board=15.0) board
We had considered sharing the memberbase, To be honest, I don't remember why it was decided against. However, it was decided to allow guests to post to the manual without registering.
Thank you for pointing out that guests did not have the ability to post requests or feedback. I've changed the permissions.
Wasn't it something about having all eggs in one basket..? :) Imho its better to separate it, members have no real use for their profile on the online manual do they? Other than coming with request/feedback..which can be monitored for useless posts anyhow.
Also it make certain things like membergroups more complicated. For example Akabugeyes is an admin on the Doc forum but not on this forum.

Merging the userbase just sounds like a more logical way of approaching it. Your profile/username is always a nice thing to carry around with you as long as you're on the same site. In my view, a feature like that is one of those features that every site owner would want to implement.

Actually, I think it would make membergroups less complicated. The doc team already has a membergroup all for themselves on this board. All you would need to do is set different permissions for that same membergroup on the Online Manual board, and make an extra membergroup for "Doc Site Administrators".
Plus, it would make it easier to allow all team members on this board to modify topics on the doc site.
Except that then they wouldn't have full admin abilities. On the Online Manual they can add/remove boards, move things around to their hearts desire, etc. There really isn't a lot of need for the two to be merged.
Remember this is a public board ;)
... *sigh* ...
You can give non-admin usergroups permissions to administrate certain boards in SMF.
Think outside of the box, stop thinking about the limits and start thinking about the possibilities.
I've made a suggestion, do with it what you wish. I'm out.
I just downloaded a theme from this site and it was blue something (forgot the name of it) When I installed it , it came back at the bottom "Illegal copy of theme , Copyright must be in theme" or something like that. I just installed it. Did not modify it in any way. I would like to use the theme and contact the Author but I have no idea where and how to get in contact with the author to notify him about this.
Here is the URL if you would care to take a look:
http://chainclubs.com/stamps/index.php
It is NOT my intention to run an Illegal forum with an Illegal Theme. I will switch to another theme if there is no way of correcting this problem .
Can someone Please tell me how to. I am sorta of New at this type of thing.
I will find the Correct Name of the Theme (I hope) and post it here.
Any Comments and Suggestions will be greatly appreicated
thanks in Advance

You are using a 1.1 theme on 1.0.7. They are not compatible.
Excellent upgrade, thanks a lot, I will love the themes site ;)

Could'nt have got my image in without it. First time I saw that yesterday.
Many thanks for everything you guys do for us to make our SMF awesome. I have tried all the CMS's out there but always come back to SMF discussion board.
Thx for the notification, and the hard work. Got the mail, and searched the site for it, however : I have 1.1 RC3, so : where can I find this damn download link? It p*sses me off to not being able to find it.
Sorry for the harsh language, but I can't find a donwload linkanywhere ???
Only link I got is in my admin panel where there's in red a warning of vulerablity, clicked it, not compatibel *grrrrr*
What are you wanting to download? And what does it have to do with the Theme Site and Online Manual?
