Otsikko: very nice.. near ultimate (but not yet)
Kirjoitti: Piwaille - maaliskuu 31, 2006, 05:57:36 AP
hello all !

there a few days I've been testing SMF (1.1RC2)
It seem's nice...

It is just a bit difficult to start in because there is a real lack in documentation...
I know, we're not very many that read that ******ing' manual.... but I do...
At least, it could be seen as an extensive FAQ well organized ?
As I'm French, I've read the wiki made on the French site.... but it only concern some basic aspects
:(
I strike because the documentation just released ... thank you a lot ;D

Despite I send some times finding the basic manovers, I manage to go further...
This week, I enjoyed very much with the update.... very simple to install... I was so happy I thought "SMF is THE ultimate forum"
I began my personalization of the forum : I wrote my own mod for including call to my script in every page (call to xiti counter ...)
I was happy, the mod was quick written and functioned ... a message astonished me but ...
And then, I realized that even using $themedir variable.... the mod only affected one theme :(
there is no mean it appears on every theme :(
and I was afraid : all the mod I installed (quite few untill now) or will install... will just install on the default mod  :'(

I've posted my wishes (beter mod install) there : http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=79087.0 (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=79087.0)

It would' be great if every mod could be installed on each theme I offer for my customers
It would be great if, when I install a new theme (I'm waiting for the XP theme which is very very nice) It is patched with all the mods I've already installed.

It's not possible for SMF to install to themes that it doesn't have instructions for. The coding of one theme could be 100% different to the coding of another, it's just simply not possible for it to guess correctly. Would you want it to guess and probably guess wrongly, or would you prefer to control it?

welll... I admit this may be a problem....

There are some mod that are relatively theme independant but should mod every theme
* adding a xiti (or something like that) JS call (just before </body> )
* (I wanted do) a translation for some mod (EG : ad_mod which i wanted to translate = mod for each $themedir/Modifications.french.php, $themedir/Help.french.php ...)

I would say further :  when a mod uses the $themedir variable... it doesn't know which one is the default's theme...
so the problem is already here !  ::)
isn't it ?

It's already being looked into for the next version (the one after 1.1 final).

Either way, it's still much easier than applying an entire mod by hand.
