SMF Version: SMF 1.0.7
I have just installed SMF1.0.7 to see how it compares against phpBB. The intallation went smothly and everything is looking favourable so far... except if I try to create a new topic I get this error:
An Error Has Occurred!
The board you specified doesn't exist
I have created a few new boards in two categories and I get the same error in all of them
I hope someone can help.
Alan
Any errors in your log? What happens if you go to Admin -> Forum Maintenance -> Find and Repair any errors?
No, no errors reported
Alan
Can you post a link to your forum please?

Can you try this?
Having problems with mod_security? (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=34270.0)
I uploaded the htaccess.txt file to my /smfbb directory and changed the name to .htaccess as your link instructed. Sadly, it didn't make any difference.
If it any help, I had phpbb test forum running on the same server last week (now deleted) and that worked OK.
You might want to try uploading the files from the /Sources directory again.
Files uploaded again
Still no change.
Not sure what to tell you. Though there have been reports about this before it's definately not a common issue. Let me check my teammates, see if they can come up with something.
Please send me a PM with your admin login/password so I can check a few things.
Your host is using PHP 4.3.2 - tell them to upgrade. Versions prior to 4.3.11 have security vulnerabilities. Your hosts should know that and should've already upgraded. They also need to upgrade their Zend Optimizer. I didn't see any mod security enabled, so I doubt that's causing this problem. I do see more odd behavior, like board=4.0.0 instead of board=4.0 in the url when trying to post. I remember reading about a similar issue; I'll try to find that thread.
This is, unfortunately, another example of an oddly configured server that's wreaking havok with SMF.
Ok, many thanks for trying anyway.
It's not the end of the world as I was only trying out the software before setting it up on a new server. I guess I'll just have to wait a few more days for the domain to be transfered and do the tests on the new server which runs php 5.0.5.
Not sure what a 'Zend' is but I didn't know anything about any of this a few weeks ago!
Thanks again.
Alan
I'm sure you'll have better results on the new server. Please let us know how everything works after you make the switch.
This is just a stab in the dark, but have you checked to see that your directories are writable? I had a similar problem when I first set up, and that was because the directories were all installed CHMOD set at 644 by default when some should have been 750 or higher.
OK, but which directories should be set to what?
Hold on. When you installed SMF, did you upload the files yourself or did you use a Fantastico type installer? Did it ask for FTP access to change permissions? As a test, you can set all SMF file permissions to 777 (or 755 or whatever is allowed on your server.)
Changed the settings to 777 but still no difference.
I'll wait until I can install it on the new server.
I have the same problem!
I don't know what to do with this...
I tried to install smf 1.0.7, 1.1RC2 with latest patches. Every time the same: "The board you specified doesn't exist"

May be somebody had problem like this and resolved it...
Maybe phpinfo() result will help... http://moldstud.ru/phpinfo.html
I now have smf 1.1 RC2 all installed on the new server now (php v5.0.5) and it works great!
Thanks to Xenovanis and Kegobeer for their help trying to get it going on the old server.
Best regards
Alan
