I am using SMF 1.1 RC2, Amber theme, I can't find a way to insert my exchange banner code nor my adwords link code to the index.template.php file. Any help will be much welcome.

P.S. I would like to place the banner whether at the top of the boards, just below the top image, or down the "Users online" tab just on top of the copyright info.

You could try the Ad Management Mod (http://mods.simplemachines.org/index.php?mod=255). :)
