Otsikko: Unexpected(?) Heading Behavior...
Kirjoitti: elkaintmoose - huhtikuu 13, 2006, 10:18:06 IP
Hi! I'm working on cramming 1.1 RC2 into my web site. Things seemed to be going ok, until I logged out: it looks like my category headings aren't visible to Guests for some reason. The boards are still visible, but the headings collapse.

I'm a total SMF newbie, so I'm not totally familiar with the settings. Is this some kind of option? Or is something broken? If something's broken, might anybody be able to key me in on what I should look for to fix it?

My board's at: http://www.ferrellweb.com/forum

You can use the login testguy/testguy to see what the headings should look like...

Thanks for any help!
Jeff.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'Headings', but everything looks fine.

When I'm logged out, I see a thin blue stripe above "Podcast Help and Information", for example. When you're logged in, that turns into a blue bar that says "Eaglecast" on it, with a minimize widget. Is that the way it's supposed to work? I'd like for guests to be able to see the names of the different boards...

that's how it works. Guest can't collapse.

But...when I'm logged out here, I can still see the board titles -- "Simple Machines" "SMF Support" "SMF Development" etc.

Hmm. I did move the expand/collapse widget to the other side of the bar (away from the title text)...and guests wouldn't be able to see that widget, right? So maybe I broke something when I did that so that the whole bar is now minimized for guests, instead of just the widget disappearing?

Grr...I'd better take a look. Thanks for the quick responses! Wow!  :D

Just for the record, I flipped the expand/collapse widgets with the board title text, and threw them both in a table, so I could line them up. So the section starting about line 96 or so in BoardIndex.template.php looks like this now:

// If this category even can collapse, show a link to collapse it.
if ($category['can_collapse'])

echo '<table margin="0" padding="0" border="0" width="100%"><tr><td>',$category['link'],'</td>';

echo '
<td align="right"><a href="', $category['collapse_href'], '">', $category['collapse_image'], '</a></td></tr></table>';

echo '</div>';

Would that be sucking up the whole table when it's closed, then? Is there a way I can work around it, if that's the case?

Well, it looks like that's what was doing it. Flipping

$category['link']

with

<a href="', $category['collapse_href'], '">', $category['collapse_image'], '</a>'

in BoardIndex.template.php causes the whole board title heading to disappear for Guests. Does anybody know why that happens?

Thanks,
jeff.

Both $category['collapse_href'] and $category['collapse_image'] are empty for guests, so no image and indeed no link will be shown.

Yeah, but it's crazy:

The normal order is

[collapse/expand] [title]

and guests only see:

[title]

but when I flip them:

[title] [collapse/expand]

logged in users see:

[title] [collapse/expand]

but GUESTS see NOTHING. The whole bar collapses. Crazy, eh? It must have something to do with the way the Javascript's handling things, and since my Javascript skills never got past image rollovers in 1998, I'm powerless...  :P

No, thats how it should work..for guests the "collapse" items are empty, and then of course the link will only show. Flipping things only change position for members.
