Otsikko: Permission to create only topics containing polls.
Kirjoitti: Cofe - huhtikuu 21, 2006, 07:25:53 IP
Hey everyone.  I am a new member and love your board.  I have a couple of questsions.

While using this forums on my personal site, I was wondering if there is a permission setting to only allow a particular forum to have polls.  For what I am planning, I am trying to keep them all in one place.

The options I have seen so far include...

Normal
No polls
Reply only
Read only

My 2 questions are...

1) Is there a "Only polls" option anywhere?

2) Is there an option for allowing guests to vote?

I do apoligize for these if they are repeat questions.  I did not see answers to them anywhere.  Thank you for your time and great services that you offer.  Thank you very much.

1. Not that I'm aware of, since the ability to post new polls also depends on the ability to post new topics (go to Admin -> Permissions -> Settings and check the box next to "advanced by-board permissions" if you want more options).

2. No, because there's no way to accurately prevent guests from voting more than once:
IP addresses wouldn't work because it's easy to change your IP address, and it would prevent multiple votes from the same computer by two different people.
Cookies aren't reliable at all (easy to delete, doesn't prevent multiple votes from two different web browsers, etc.)
Email addresses wouldn't work either even if we made them validate their address (easy to get a new address)
