SMF Version: SMF 1.1 RC2
Hey guys, I recently have tried to install SMF onto my site. However, I cant seem to get it all working. I'm not much of a computer expert (not at all, hehe), so I cant figure out what I'm doing wrong or how to fix it.
My host is infinology, I'm on windows, and I'm using smartFTP.
I've been trying to follow the guide, but when it says to go to http://www.yourdomain.tfl/smf/install.php, I get errors. Perhaps I'm not typing my domain name in correctly, but I've tried every variation I can think of. I'm pretty sure I've uploaded all my files.
Any ideas on what should I do?

got mysql database username/passwords?do you hace cpanel from your host?
Yes I believe I do have mysql database username/password... and Yes I have a control panel from my host.
What exactly did you set up for your SMF install? Did you create the MySQL database and create a user for that database? Did you give the newly created user access to this database?
I assume you uploaded all the files and folders to the /SMF directory you created at your site?
I created a mysql database and a user, yes. I did give the account access, I believe.
What I did was get SmartFTP connected to my server then I copy-pasted my folders and files from the SMF download to the ftp. The directory was /smf although it put my username first, so the directory would really be /mokkie/smf...I think.
After copy-pasting the folders and files I attempted to follow the rest of the guide but couldnt get any further then I said in my op.
like to tell error messages that you get?
I was confused when it said to go to http://www.yourdomain.tfl/smf/install.php. I didnt know whether to go there in my web browser or in SmartFTP. So I tried both :)
My error message when trying it in my web broswer was either:
Server not found
Firefox can't find the server at www.brighterthanrain.tfl
* Check the address for typing errors such as
ww.example.com instead of
www.example.com
* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.
* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.
or this one if I took away the .tfl and put .com

HTTP Error 404 - File or directory not found.

Now, I just got my site hosted about a day ago, so since I knew it takes 24-72 hours to get a site's domain name onto dns servers...I also tried entering http://www.yourdomain.tfl/smf/install.php with the temporary address given to me by my host (http://d1815071.u51.infinology.net). That gave me the same errors.
Then I tried going to http://www.yourdomain.tfl/smf/install.php in my FTP. I tried entering it in a few ways, but none of them worked. the error msg that came up in the log was:

I'm mind is slowly starting to meltdown from all this stuff!

my site is www.brighterthanrain.com...that works for me...although maybe because I'm accessing it from my own computer. Also, the temporary address is http://d1815071.u51.infinology.net until my domain name gets updated on dns servers.
