Post by: Aaron on April 28, 2006, 11:52:45 AM
Name: Aäron van Geffen
Age: 19
Location: Ammerzoden, The Netherlands
Favourite Quote: "And patience is about the most useful thing you could ever have. That and backups." - [Unknown]
Position: Developer

1. Do you have pets?
Not anymore, sadly.

2. What is your favourite colour?
blue

3. What kind of music do you like?
Any piano or acoustic music, rock, symphonic metal

4. What do you do on your free time besides spending time on SMF?
I design and script for websites and maintain my own (SolarSoft (http://www.solarsoft.nl/) being the most time-consuming).

5. What are your goals/dreams in life?
Well, I'm not sure what I want to do in life, so I'll get back to you on that later. :P

6. What got you involved in SMF?
After setting up a few SMF forums myself, I started replying to support topics in the community. I was recommended for the support team and accepted their invitation to join the team. Shortly before leaving the team for health reasons, I started to focus more on developing mods and themes, and after meeting Compuart in real life and - apparently - impressing him with my programming skills, I was invited to join the development team, an invitation I happily accepted. :)

15. What is your favourite website?
SolarSoft.nl and Simplemachines.org make up the most of my http traffic. :P

16. Do you play computer games? If so which ones?
Not often, but I like to give games like RollerCoaster Tycoon, Rayman and Tomb Raider a shot every now and then.

17. Do you play video game consoles? Which ones?
Sure, I've played Final Fantasy X and Kingdom Hearts (I and II) on the Playstation 2.

18. Are you married or planning to get married?
In the future, perhaps. ;)
  a. If so do you have any kids?

ummmm... well enemy and friend are "properties" and best and worst are "levels of intensity" . best is highest and worst is lowest.
so comsidering friend to be positive and enemy to be negative.
so a worst enemy would be the opposite of negative (enemy) being positive.
so its like - * - = +
so as an enemy if someone is worse then that means he's not being good as an enemy . so the worst enemy = best friend.

well atleast thats what i read somewhere :P

okey dokey, lets not steal aaron's thread :)

Irn Bru isn't alcoholic Aaron, its a soft drink thats luminous orange and doesn't taste of orange, a Scottish drink!

Oh I meant what do you hope what yuor developing to achieve, sorry my mistake.

Aaron wouldn't need to die, I'd say him, then drop the anvil on whoever tried and suffocate his girlfriend :) The Science officer is needed!

What's your favourite language?

What's your favourite school subject?

I'm really surprised at some of the young ages of the SMF staff around here.  I wonder how much different my life would be if the internet had come out when I was a little kid instead of a college student.

You kids are kind of lucky today that there are fast computers, a plethora of learning resources, and several free or inexpensive programming tools and languages.  It wasn't like that 10 years ago.  Things were much more expensive and harder to come by.  Now, half the code is written for you and all you've got to do is piece together a bunch of existing objects or functions.  I'll bet many of you have never had to deal with DOS.  Oh what a hassle that was.

When I was 17 all we'd do is drink beer and smoke pot.  Computers weren't widely available as they are today.  You youth are lucky to be able to have a hobby that is interesting and adds a marketable skill.

Okay, how about Doctor Who? (I don't watch it, but heck, that doesn't stop me asking :P)

And since you're in the same country, did/do you and Compuart meet up for a drink and discuss stuff? ;)

Of the revived series, that'd be 'Blink' by Steven Moffat. I've also watched about five series of the 'classic series', and of those I liked 'City of Death' by Douglas Adams best. :)

Nice one. As a developer, I'd like to see the code become more modular, i.e. separate model, view and controller (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Model-view-controller) better. As an end user, I'd like to see the features currently implemented become better, for example by having more AJAX where appropriate. :)

10 years ago I was starting to work on programming. The tools were available and in 1998, I am pretty sure computers were pretty well available. Perl and C were widely available and the tools to use them were as well. The internet was slow, but I could still connect. Remember it is 2008, not 1998.

Forget about the whole state. Upstate really doesn't have much that you won't see in any other part of the country. Jack can tell you. NYC is where you want to see and "seeing" that city is seeing more than most states have.

What all computer languages do you know?
With what language did you begin programming?
If you were given a choice between PHP, RoR, ASP .NET, ASP Classic, Perl, Python and flash for web development, what'd you choose?
