Hi guys!
I would like to suggest 2 things. First, make hidden by default new users email. With all the spiders running on the web, publish a forum with plain email adresses is gold for spammers.
Second, enable for users with hidden emails, a contact form, so that user can receive emails using php mail ou smtp.
Thanks!
That sounds like a good idea. ;)
Acctually, that's an IPB feature I enjoy :)
A member has the option of hidding/showing their email upon registration.
Monteiro,
I agree that the default should be checked. - I think it's silly that it is not. I've slipped up before with an SMF forum because of this; only on my second visit (months later) did I notice that my e-mail address was there, in plain view, for the harvesters.
Anyway, you can change it yourself:
Themes\default\Register.template.php
// Are they allowed to hide their email?
if ($context['allow_hide_email'])
echo '
<label for="hideEmail"><input type="checkbox" name="hideEmail" id="hideEmail" class="check" /> ', $txt[721], '</label>';
Just add:
checked="checked"
So:
// Are they allowed to hide their email?
if ($context['allow_hide_email'])
echo '
<label for="hideEmail"><input type="checkbox" checked="checked" name="hideEmail" id="hideEmail" class="check" /> ', $txt[721], '</label>';
Thanks for the sugestion, Col. I'll fix mine too. But I was also expecting someone to reply about the email form to contact people with hidden email. Anyone? I believe both should added to next version...
But, you can do that with PMs. You have the option to have the actual PM go out, or just a notification that there is PM waiting to be read.
