SMF Version: SMF 1.1 RC1
Apparently, I'm missing something.

I uploaded all the files to my server. When I try to access the installer interface through my server, I get a open/save file box.  Isn't there supposed to be an online interface?  Or am I missing something?

Make sur ethat your host supports PHP.

that's what was wrong.  stupid host doesn't support php.

Time for a new host.  Take a look at the Hosts and Hosting (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?board=4.0) board.  I would recommend MontecaloHosting.com and Charlottezweb.com.
