Okay I think I'm going to take the plunge and upgrade from 1.06 to 1.1RC (for a few reasons), but I do have a few questions.
1> Should I be downloading the Upgrade or Update? I do use like 1 mod so I'm assuming the Upgrade, but I'm more curious about what the actual difference is.
2> Maintenace Mode. I've never had to put my forums in this before, but I am aware of how to do it. The question is if it "locks" users out how do I then later take the system out of maintenance mode?
3> Uploading/Overwriting. What actual files/directories should I upload. For instance why would I upload the empty attachements directory? Won't that overwrite ie delete anything that has been uploaded?
So thats about it. If anyone could shed some insight it would be greatly appreciated!

1. you want to use the update then run upgrade.php
2. this is done in Server Settings in the admin panel (with RC2 the admin panel is updated and has a slight new look)
3, once you have extracted the archive to your hards disk you upload what you see overwriting the existing files, using your ftp client

2: Hmm perhaps I was confused.. so is maintenance like Read Only mode then?
3: I understand posts etc.. are stored in the MySQL db, but wont uploading a empty attachements folder overwrite the existing one which in fact contains all uploaded attachements?
for example of attachments it only updates the index.php file and if i member correctly adds a new folder called temp.
In maintenance mode only people who have permission to administrate the board can access it so if you are main admin then you can access. Anyone lower than you will see a temporray page saying maintenance mode.

Hmm okay so basically its doing a merge, but overwriting .php files. My confusion on this is stemming from that the behavior desired is not replicated with a single "upload button" using Transmit. Transmit being the, argueably, most popular Mac OS X FTP client.
